Can a sista rock a mic?, August 3, 2008
This review is from: Daybreak 2.0 (Audio CD)
Well if her name is Muhsinah, she can rock a mic, vocals, piano, beats and lyrics. The current cancer known as our major radio stations are not worthy of her talent and BET and MTV would not know what to do with her. If you want to be taken on a journey that is audible, lyrical, mental and spiritual then ride with this sister as she gives you a glimpse into her life of self discovery, wanting to ascend to higher levels and letting go of the past while still realizing that "day to day responsibilities take her on a journey she is not sure that she needs." When was the last time you heard an R&B album that was full of love, but not break my heart and make up sex love, I'm talking self love, love of her people, love of life and adventure. It puts you in a totally different frame of mind.
Her vocals are so strong, harmonizing and appealing that I just want to get into an R&B mood, but her beats and samples hit me so hard that I can't help but nod my head to every track. She could hang with the best of them in terms of producers (and I am making comparisons to 9th wonder, Khrysis and Illmind. Even some of the addictive base and mellow jazz that she uses is reminiscent of early Dilla.)
If amazon had a rating of 100 stars, I would give her 150 off of general principle. If you still are not sure, check out her samples on www.lastfm.com or peep her interlude on Little Brother's getback. This DC native and Howard University graduate has a bright future in front of her. I am looking forward to hearing where it takes her.

such a smooth eclectic sound, October 9, 2011
This review is from: Daybreak 2.0 (Audio CD)
- i too LOVE this artist. as much as a niche artist she is, i was disappointed to recieve a copywrite claim from her label about several Youtube videos i made promoting her music/this album. the review by J.Webb hits the nail on the head with no exaggeration. this artist/album is such a breath of fresh air to the open mind and ear. i just wish her label were smart enough to understand an artist like this needs as much promotion as she can get when going against the music/ lazy listeners of today.
- sadly, with her label targeting the 'little people' creating fan made videos of basically free promotion, compounded with the current music climate, i suspect this will be the best we'll see of Muhsinah. hopefully im wrong.
- im purchasing Day.Break 2.0 as well as Pre.Lude today, as i want an actual physical copy of her work.....(yes, its THAT good). ive been looking for Pre.Lude for well over a year, and FINALLY found a resonable price on a copy.
....oh yeah, if you like Muhsinah check out Foreign Exchange - Leave It All Behind as well, she's featured on a few tracks.
