I received Squashblox as a gift from a friend. At first, I had trouble putting stuff together, but the kids kept at it and played with them for hours. Once you get the hang of the velcro flaps, it's pretty easy to build some creative stuff. The train accessory was the favorite for my son and he played conductor with his friends. The blocks are well made and fun colors. The structures can be knocked down fairly easily, but then again they are landing in a bunch of cushions so no one gets hurt. And tearing down the creations is part of the fun. The blocks store neatly, although there are many little accessory pieces, so it would be nice if the manufacturer gave a bag to store the pieces in the future so they don't get lost. Overall a fun toy and neat concept I would recommend it to anyone with preschoolers in the house who tear apart the couch.

My kids got this as a Christmas present two years ago. I even suggested this as a gift to my mother-in-law since I was sure the kids would love to create forts and trains and such (we got the train set too). Their interest waned quickly (7, 5, and 2 years old at the time). Although the concept is great, the product is less than perfect and just ridiculously too hard for the kids. To build anything more than one square high is asking for trouble. The foam inside is too squishy and soft... the structures always collapse. Like another reviewer mentioned, it needs to be more rigid or thicker. The velcro is INCREDIBLY tough. Unfortunately, it's way too tough. It binds quickly to the fabric, but that also means that when you tear the velcro off from another piece, it quickly binds to its own square... then you have to tear it off again. Sounds simple enough, right? I've torn up my own knuckles trying to open these velcro pieces. After pulling open two or three strips of velcro, my fingers are sore and I want to give up. My kids didn't have the strength to do it themselves. I normally don't complain much about toys in these reviews, but I was surprised to see so many good reviews on this toy. Perhaps our set was made differently than some of the others'? My kids are now 9, 7, 4 and 3 and I finally dragged these unused toys from a box in the rec room where they have been stored untouched for 2 years now. I'm donating them.
So, in summary... they are not dangerous, but are just not made well enough to justify the cost.

I ordered these because of all the talk. They are bright colors and the principal behind it is a good one....Do you feel the but coming on here? But...The velcro is WAY to tough for my little ones to handle(3&6). I have a sore knuckle or two myself. When constructed into the train or castle they are cute, and the kids got a kick out of them, but they kept falling apart and it left me to RE-VELCRO the whole thing. Overall I am disappointed. They should be alittle thicker so they stand up easier and longer. And the VELCRO should be easier to open. (the velcro is in long strips that run down all 4 sides of these, to play you have to WORK each strip open ) My kids ended up laying them on the floor and using them for hopscotch..But hey, thats what imaginations are for.

We purchased this toy for our nephew who was 3 and he continues to play with it now that he is 5. He loves the train accessories!!! He loves the bright colors and he creates so many different shapes that his parents can really see his creative juices being motivated. We then purchased it for our goddaughter who was 2 1/2, now she is 4 and she continues to play "castle and the princess" with the accessories that come with it. She invites her friends over and they have a "royal party". Her parents love it because it keeps her entertained and motivates her imagination. It is a highly educational and safe toy because it teaches them about colors, shapes, creativity and building.

Being a mother of three active boys I am always looking for toys that keep my sons engaged in a positive way. My five year old is at the age where he is really starting to build on his own, he creates castles, stores even boats. My three year old loves to play in all the creation, especially climbing through tunnels. Surprisingly enough they don't even fight while using squashblocks because it is a toy that builds on cooperative skills. I recently found yet another great use for squashblocks. My six month old is just learning to sit up when I pad the floor with the blocks I create a safe place for him to practice that doesn't hurt to fall over on. Best of all any busy mom would love how quickly squashblocks cleans up. Any creation can be picked up and put away in five minutes, unlike toys which seem to be forever underfoot no matter how long you clean up. Buy Squashblocks today!!!!!

The Squashblox Builder Set is great fun for both boys and girls. I highly recommend this toy for imaginary play - children can build cozy spaces for all types of dramatic play situations - clubhouses, quiet reading areas, doll corners, fantasy lands - children of all ages love to create their own spaces and squashblox is a wonderful, safe and creative toy. I direct a preschool and the children love using our squashblox and your child will too.

My son has had squashblox since his 3rd birthday and they are still his favorite activity (He's 4 now). He loves them! He loves to build houses and tents and especially trains! The accessory kits enable children to create their own visions which has helped build so much self-confidence in his abilities. We have constructed such a wide variety of things from Dr. Doolittle's "push-me-pull-ewe" to a simple house for 2 children to play in. This is a toy that engages my son when he's playing alone and I've seen entire birthday parties construct long trains with many children (and there were plenty of cushions, so there was no grabbing)!!! We think Squashblox are great!!!

I purchased the original squashblox set one Christmas for my cousin's daughter, and she loved the blox so much, her grandmother bought her another set for her birthday, only weeks later. With two sets, she could build a house (which she took her naps in) and still have enough to play hopscotch or create a tumbling mat without having to breakdown her original creation. Now, nearly two years later, she is still playing with the blox. (Not many toys survive that kind of timespan while still holding a child's interest.) And the blox have grown with her. She no longer needs help in the building process, and her imagination has invented structures that continue to surprise us. I highly recommend this toy!

I reviewed the Squashblox 5 years ago when my first son was 3. He is now 8 and I now have another 3 year old boy! We have added on to the original set (which shows absolutely no wear) and I find Squashblox to be a fantastic activity for siblings. They can choose to build and create together or they can work side by side building & accessorizing. They especially love building their own rooms side by side and decorating them with the train and rocketship accessory kits. I can never receive too many of these as gifts as we can just keep making larger structures! The boys love working with them. They also pack up so easily, that I throw them in the car when we visit the grandparents for the weekend. They love working with the boys on their dream structures! Squashblox are so much fun!!!
