Editorial Reviews

Fourth studio album from this Arizona trio. Discover this cryptic and puzzling collection of music, mayhem, and madness! ''I think Calabrese is one of the top horror rock bands I have heard'' (Blasko, bassist for Rob Zombie and Ozzy Osbourne).

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Horrorpunk! September 5, 2012
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
Can't say enough about this band, discovered them last year when I was on a Blitzkid/Misfits kick and never looked back, they have become one of my favorites, with each successive album getting better, and never getting old. Buy this and help support these guys!

4.0 out of 5 stars Still Reigning Champions! August 23, 2012
Format:Audio CD
Why, look who's back! It's the brothers Calabrese with their fourth album! Has it really been that long since 13 Halloweens came out? Well, the years have been rather kind to Calabrese, who over the course of three albums have established themselves as one of the very top names in the horrorpunk genre........and for good reason! I mean, it's gotta be tough in a genre where you pretty much have to move yourself out of the shadow of The Misfits, because lets face it-that band is where this whole thing came from.
Dayglo Necros continues the direction Calabrese began on their previous album, They Call Us Death. That is to say that while they kept their catchy, straightforward horror punk sound we all fell in love with, they added a small layer of complexity-The instrumental parts became a tad bit longer, and the tempos would shift more throughout the songs. I'll admit this approach threw me a bit when I first listened to They Call Us Death. In fact, at first I was a bit disappointed, but after multiple spins, the songs really sunk in. The same went for me with Dayglo Necros(no disappointment this time because I was prepared). The more spins, the more it's grown on me, and now I friggin love it. It's probably two more spins away from a five star rating now!
I guess the only big difference when compared to the previous albums, is that it seems-to my ears anyway-that the guitar tone sounds a bit different this time out. Or is the bass a bit louder now? Or a combination of both? The guitar seems to have a rawer, punkier sound, and I am pretty sure the bass is somewhat louder. That's certainly not a bad thing.
But all in all I have to say that Calabrese have nailed it once again, and to a fan, this album is a no brainer. You can certainly buy with absolutely no worries.

It's a great album, but where are the guitars?? They got buried in the production. :( These guys still rock and it's still worth the purchase!

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than I expected September 3, 2012

I discovered Calabrese somewhat recently, and my favorite album of theirs by far is The Traveling Vampire Show. I didn't think a new album from them would compare... but I was so wrong! I love every song on Dayglo Necros, and my favorites are Heart Possession, She Hasn't Been Herself in Years, and History of Nothing.

If you've never listened to Calabrese before, this is a great album to check out first (all though TVS is still my favorite).
