About the Author

Raw Foods Chef and Educator Paul Nison has been eating a raw food diet since he was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis many years ago. With no other choice but surgery according to the medical profession, Paul decided to stop eating all cooked foods. Today he is 100% cured of this so-called "incurable disease." Paul has been featured on The Food Network and in several magazines and newspapers around the world. He travels the world giving lectures on the raw food nutrition and raw food prep classes to show people how easy and fun the raw life can be.

More About the Author

At age 20, Paul Nison was diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease (also know as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis), a deadly affliction.

His search for a cure began with medical doctors, but they didn't have the answers he needed. After trying almost every so-called cure to overcome his pain and suffering, Paul finally discovered the benefits of eating more simply. Simplifying his diet was the first step in his cure. After turning to a more simple diet called "the raw food diet" consisting of just that, raw foods, Paul was amazed at how quickly his health returned. He was even more amazed because doctor's told him raw foods would not help his condition. In fact, they warned him by saying a diet of raw fruits and vegetables would be harmful to anyone with inflammatory bowel disease.
His return to health and a simpler life was just the beginning of a path that would bring him to question the connection between today's fast-paced urban lifestyle and the sadly diseased state in which so many people find themselves.

Paul's extensive research on the topic of health and diet led him to write three books on the topic of raw foods and health, "The Raw Life: Becoming Natural in an Unnatural World, and Raw Knowledge Parts 1 and 2. The main focus of these three books was interviews with people who have been eating a raw food diet for many years.
Paul developed a strong desire to continue writing and help others suffering from IBD, the disease that once did him in. This led Paul to write his next book, Healing Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

As Paul continued to study, he was led to read the Bible. Where he found a massive amount of health information with the scriptures of the Bible. These Scriptures health scriptures became the topic of Paul's next book, Health According to The Scriptures.

While studying the Bible Paul learned about the ideal times to eat our food, during the daylight hours. This is the topic of Paul's latest book The Daylight Diet.

Paul is on a mission to bring the message of health and healing to the world. His experiences and background in raw food nutrition, along with his study of the Scriptures, have helped him develop a unique teaching style that is fun, simple and to the point. In raw food leader Paul Nison's new book, The Daylight Diet, I found some exciting new pieces to the health puzzle: don't eat anything after sunset! Never eat when it is dark. Eat less food, and only two meals a day. If at all possible, eat breakfast in the third hour of daylight (usually around 8 to 9 AM) and have your last meal six hours later, at the ninth hour of daylight (usually around 2 to 3 PM). Give up that bad habit of snacking. What this does is give your digestive system a long rest between meals. Then after your late lunch/early dinner, you have about 17 or 18 hours of fasting which enables your body to cleanse and heal, doing its housecleaning. You also get a much, much deeper sleep when your body is not trying to digest food while you rest.

Paul explains that there is a direct connection between the optic nerve and digestion: "When sunlight hits the optic nerve, electrical impulses are transmitted, activating many processes of the body, including digestion. Nerve impulses send messages that tell the body to produce certain enzymes, gastric juices, and other processes of digestion."

"Regardless of the food you eat, if you consistently eat when it is dark outside, your health will never thrive," insists Paul. He evens states that "it is far worse to overeat even high quality food, than to consume low quality foods in small amounts. In other words, it's the quantity that does far more damage than the quality." He explains that he used to eat 7,000 calories a day (yet only weighed 150 pounds, so obviously calories didn't count--some young men can get away with that!)

In order for this to succeed, you will need to cultivate new habits. You can start by not eating after 6 PM and gradually reduce it till it is earlier.

It is against your well being not only to eat too much but to do so at nighttime.

His argument is that in order to function properly the stomach requires periods of rest, some other writers advise fasting yet Nison emphasizes the need to harmonize eating with sunlight that eating at night set the digestive system at work during the sleeping hours, routine that upset both the digestion, the sleeping process and mental/physical daytime energy.

The off the mark practice of eating after dark detracts from our physical balance and strength and emotional energy, that eating at night is detrimental not only to the mind and body but also upsetting the daytime activity hours.

Tonya Zavasta in Quantum Eating recommends not taking any food after two o'clock in the afternoon, which is what I have been doing for the last couple of months with excellent results. I used to feel guilty for going to sleep from two to three in the morning either reading and/or the computer but now I sleep early at night feeling light in mind and body with additional boost of energy and able to accomplish more during my alert daytime hours.

Although this system of non food after dark can be taken up by anyone even by chronic food addicts it is desirable the reader becomes either a raw vegetarian, fruitarian or is on his/her way to do so. If you have not done so yet remember that eating meat and cooked dead food is toxically lethal and the habit should be dropped as soon as possible- if that is your inclination.

I recommend this original publication to those who want to go into higher levels of health, self-discipline and happiness.
