5.0 out of 5 stars Another excellent release from Aesop Rock
This EP is excellent. While it is not as conceptual as his previous release the Labor Days LP, it is full of even more energy. If nothing else buy this album for the incredible hidden track "One of Four." All the songs are dope except for "Brack Basher" and even that is only weak because of the beat. You will enjoy this album.

3.0 out of 5 stars Plagiarism
To head off any conclusion you might be (understandably) jumping to, let me clarify: Ace Rock is not a plagiarist. Ace Rock is one of the greatest artists working in Hip Hop today, and (hopefully) he'll only get better. It's just an EP, so it's not quite up to par with one of his full-lengths (which you shoud definitely pick up).

Anyway, unless the esteemed reviewer...

5.0 out of 5 stars AESOP DROPS ANOTHER WINNER, February 8, 2002

**Before reading this review you should know that I am a huge Aesop Rock fan and my be a little biased. Keep in mind i did my best to give a good representation of this particular work.** Aesop Rock' new ep "Day Light" is a great follow up of his "Labor Days" album. It shows his growth as an emcee and a producer. Block Head manages to take his own production up a knoch as well, yet holds onto that classic Aesop sound. Production on the ep also includes El Producto (company flow) and Blueprint (greenhouse effect). El p's beat on Nickle Plated Pockets is definetly dope ad adds a nice variety. El p is very good at making a beat that suits a rapper very well, and in this case he blends his own sound with Aesop's very well. Blueprint produces and rapps on "alchemy": this is probably my favorite song on the album. Aesop takes a chance and slows his flow down consierably, and nails it. The ep also includes "Maintainance" which was on the "coma" 12" and a secret song. I admit that Aesop is not for eveyone, but if you're diggin the whole Def Jux* scene than you will definitivly feel this ep.

this man has been at his game for awhile, and it shows. for all the real heads out there this is a household name, no matter what coast your on, or land locked for that matter. support REAL hip hop, as it slowly turns back to it's artistic roots. Daylight, imo, is Aesop and Blockhead in there finest form. don't sleep, FEED YOUR BRAIN!

5.0 out of 5 stars you owe it to yourself to buy this. really., October 13, 2007
This review is from: Daylight EP (Audio CD)
i agree that it's too short, but that doesn't take away from the total awesomeness of this record. aesop's lyrics are ridiculously good; it's like climbing into his head and experiencing his world, plus i love his voice. and i'm even kept interested by the instrumental tracks, which is rare. sadly, i lost my first copy, but this album is definitely worth buying again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Crisp plunge into the lyrical abyss, December 15, 2008
This review is from: Daylight EP (Audio CD)
Once you wind up this spectacularly bizarre rapper, there really is no down time. The man only gives 110% when it comes to putting pen to paper, and this comes through perhaps clearest in the EP's, especially around this period. If he could be accused of anything it is overreaching poetic ambition, something the shorted format helps alleviate.

For real he is. This EP is amazing... ill flows and hot beats. he raps about gritty life in a urban surrounding, not crystal and bentleys. If you like thoughr provocing, challenging hip hop (or music in general) pick up this disc. ive been bumping it in my car for the past 3 months non stop.

5.0 out of 5 stars See the light, October 15, 2005
This review is from: Daylight EP (Audio CD)
Aesop Rock is underground like James Brown is soul. He's the rap of the dungeons,of the streets. That genius of Rock strikes back with a great EP.Ep that contains his best song,"Daylight",a mix of peace, music and knowledge, and the opposite side of "Daylight","Night Light".This song is the contrary of "Daylight",because the sound his very dark, black, obscurus. This is also the cause of the Def Jux fame. THIS IS THEIR TYPICAL SOUND,RAW!!!Great work, that continues with "Alchemy" (Fabolous,Blueprint rocks like nobody)and "Forest Crunk".This is Rap,so support it.

4.0 out of 5 stars 5 star material, but too short., September 26, 2005
This review is from: Daylight EP (Audio CD)
This album is a great transition between Labor Days and Bazooka Tooth, its sound leaning more toward Labor Days. Every track is solid, except for the Blueprint track. The standouts, in my opinion, are Forest Crunk and the hidden track, One of Four. Forest Crunk is a captivating instrumental which makes fans wonder why Aesop never released a full instrumental album. It is really very impressive. One of Four is a very personal, emotional track, which is not typical of Aesop, but is very good. The lyrics and flow are really some of his best on this song, bordering on genius. Overall, this album is worth buying. It doesn't cost much, but is worth every penny.

4.0 out of 5 stars Aesop Rock is blowin up, jump on the band wagon now!!!!, April 15, 2002
This review is from: Daylight EP (Audio CD)
I cant believe how popular he is getting, but I think he deserves 100% of it. This CD is nearly flawless, get rid of the track with Blueprint (Alchemy) and this would be perfect. If you like Aesop buy this CD, its real good. The hidden track is a really emotional song, its a thank you to 4 of his friends who were there for him in his time of crisis. This is just a theory of mine, but the track might explain his recent lisp which was not present on Earthworms, think about it. Don't be stupid and wait untill this goes out of print get it now, I got Deep Puddle Dynamics a year ago and its already out of print ...

If you already have Labor days, I recommend copping this EP as well. "Daylight" is a repeat joint, but this song is sick, it is worth listening to twice as much. My favorite songs on this album are nickle-plated pockets and 1 of 4 (the hidden track), Aes comes from the heart on this one. All the songs on this EP are exceptional though. I have Aes's 3 LPs and 2 EPs, and I listen 2 them all about the same amount, he's just continuing the saga.
