5.0 out of 5 stars Good theme going on..., September 26, 2002

As I watched Daylight on video, I noticed that as the movie went along, the score was just as important as the drama action that was taking place. Randy Edelman has created a teriffic theme that is much more memorable than the movie, and will linger in your head for hours. This is a solid soundtrack that can be listened to straight through. If the opening track sounds familiar (and you haven't seen Daylight) then that's because it's been used in countless trailers in movies in the past couple of years. Even the Donna Summer/Bruce Roberts duet is a nice touch at the end, cleverly working in the main theme into the background. And for all of you collectors out there, Junior Vasquez did club mixes years ago for this track that is worth seeking out.

4.0 out of 5 stars A score that is always in the daylight, December 19, 2002

Randy Edelman does it again with this Sylvester Stallone action flick. The music for Daylight is more muscular and powerful than some of Edelman's past scores. The main theme, heard in "Daylight" is a driving and upbeat melody played by piano and synths, with driving percussion and electric guitar riffs. "Latura's Theme" is a good one also with strings playing a slow, dramatic melody and Edelman playing the piano, which is not what you would expect as the theme for a Stallone character, but it is a good one, especially when it crescendos into a full orchestral wonder. "Latura's Theme" is the theme that you hear more often than the main theme itself and can be found in other tracks such as "Leaving George", "The Tunnel Claims Its Own", "Kit's Plan", "Survival", and several others. "Rats" contains some exciting string work and some muted brasses. "A Short Swim Under Water" is also good with electric guitar rhythms popping in here and there. "Light at the End" is the best cue, combining the two themes into one big finale, or what should be the finale. "Madelyne's Fate" is the final score track which should not of been, because "Light at the End" is a much better track to finish on. There are 2 songs to tail off the soundtrack as well. The first one "Whenever There Is Love" is a really good song that actually starts out with Edelman's main theme on piano for a few seconds. The last one "Don't Go Out With Your Friends Tonite" is not nearly as good as the other song or the score and should have been left off the soundtrack altogether. But overall a great soundtrack that will never be left in the darkness.

Many people may not know...the music is CONNECTED to the movie's every scene.. so if you complain about it being monotonous... then you probably didn't see the movie or realize that the music runs well monotonously as the movie goes on. if it didnt run well, you would have picked it up right? i really like this piece from Mr. Edelman, he has always been and always will be the best at movie music. in this cd, he doesnt show any inconsistency of his ablity to compose...
