If, like me, you are hooked on the sound of dense walls of sound of reverberating guitars, flowing melodic hooks, and chilled-out, understated, world-weary vocals, then this release by Air Formation should be a nice discovery for you. Sure, this is a sound that is associated with mid-nineties alternative rock, and specifically a genre called "shoegaze" (also "dream pop"). There were some great masterworks of the genre, but the problem is, there was not enough of it made. Here, we have an album from 2007 that is faithful to shoegaze, but with contemporary production values. One of the things I like about Air Formation is that they present a perfect balance of fuzzed-out edginess and pure and clear production. In other words, you can crank it and be comfortably immersed in a dream-pop soundscape. Rather than make the obvious comparisons to other bands, I'll just say that if you are a shoegazer on the relentless search for more good stuff, this release should be to your liking.

highly recommended to fans of Shoegaze & Dreampop. this album has all the beautiful reverb and delay you expect. the vocals are soft and inviting. track 2 "tidal" is one of the best shoegaze songs in the past 7 years in my own longtime shoegazer opinion. if you enjoy the softer side of shoegaze like Slowdive or Hammock, you will really enjoy this effort. if you are not as familiar with shoegaze, you should look into this genre if you are a fan of The Cure's "Disintegration" album or older bands like Cocteau Twins & Jesus and Mary Chain.
