Nice pictures......but,

This review is from: Daylilies for the Garden (Hardcover)
The pictures alone in this book make it an essential purchase for the daylily fancier. I would have given it five stars except there was no mention of Stamile's Candies, which have won the last two Stout Silver Medals. Also, I found the author tended to mention only good points of a plant and not bad ones such as poor bud counts. People buying this book want to know all about a plant so that they can make an informed judgement if they are considering buying the plant.

Beautiful photographs, comprehensive discussion,

This text was both an easy read and comprehensive coverage of daylily culture and care, with an extensive collection of recommended cultivars. The author's coverage is from an Australian gardener's perspective, but he also comments on suitability for colder climates like American zone 4 and 5. After reading it I keep it handy just to review the photos and get me through the winter months.

Magnificent miniatures,

This review is from: Daylilies for the Garden (Hardcover)
The second book from Graeme Grosvenor on daylilies. A very good book on daylilies; what makes this one is the photography. I think I have read all the books ever written on the daylily, but I have never come across such beautiful photographs, especially of the miniature cultivars which are usually somewhat neglected. What is more the daylilies depicted are instantly recognisable as the flowers that grow in my garden. This book is thorough in content and will do much to get more people hooked on this beautiful and utterly enchanting perennial.

Second book by Grosvenor. A bit dated as a 1999 book, but was bought for archival purposes. Much of the book is color plates and descriptions of recommended daylilies. Color is excellent. Flowers are a bit dated considering the advances of the last decade but they have proven to be worthy for the average gardener who is not just a collector of the latest and greatest. For those wanting to see pictures of more recent flowers, there are books such as The New Encyclopedia of Daylilies by Petit and Peat, 2008. However, the smaller Grosvenor book is more complete in that it contains more text on the species, cultivation, propagation, landscaping, pests and diseases. Although the author's garden is in Australia, the book is fully applicable to the USA.
Copy I bought is a former library copy and was in very good condition as described - no surprises there. Can be found at reasonable prices.

Fabulous pictures and a beautiful book for the daylily connoisseur. As previous reviews indicate, there is no mention of Stamile's Candy series, but the pictures of the covered cultivars make this well worth owning.
