5.0 out of 5 stars Alien to me in every way January 9, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
since I drank my first beer a few years ago. This book was surprising, frightening, funny, and well written. I had no idea, for instance, that there was such disparity in beers. Or that anyone would drink 8-10 beers and still walk (or even drive in Charles' case) As a mother, I found it a cautionary tale although one with humor. I am glad Charles survived his reckless youth and went on to such a distinguished career. I feel like I should ask my son if this was his experience but on the other hand....maybe not. Great fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars How well I remember . . . well maybe not December 31, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Charles has created a wonderful coming of (drinking) age tale set in rural Arkansas. Growing up in Oklahoma, may of the images and events he describes bring back vague memories for obvious reasons. Charles tells his stories with such self-deprecating humor and a wonderful descriptive voice that pulls you into each successive tale even if they do not always turn out successful for him. Great fun.

4.0 out of 5 stars Youth Gone Pleasantly Wild January 17, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Although I'm not a beer drinkin' in the true sense of the word, I can appreciate the tales and hijinks that came with the overall adventure of drinking beer.

Charles weaves a boatload of funny stories relating to his adventures of a beer drinker.

From the opening dedication to almost a dozen good (and not so good) quality beers to the closing story of trying to convince his son not to follow in his daddy's beer drinkng footsteps, Charles pulls no punches as he invites us to set for spell on his backporch to partake in a pleasant refreshent while he regales us with tales of daring do during a not-so-misspent youth.

A thoroughly enjoyable read, I give "Days of Beer: A Memoir of a Beer Drinkin' Man" a heart 4 1/2 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Days of Beer February 10, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
If you read any humorous memoir this year, it should be DAYS OF BEER. Author Charles Gramlich relives his early life experiences with beer, and a teenager's challenges in obtaining the golden substance to consume in mass quantities. Just his hilarious section aptly named the Touborg Sanction is well worth the price of admission. It is without doubt the funniest collection of anecdotes I've read in many years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heavy Light Beer January 23, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
More than a book about drinking, that's for sure. Pathos. Humor. A man talking about something he knows. I highly recommend this book. Charles proves he's a multi-talented writer. Not a bad beard either.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stay Thirsty, My Friends January 8, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a quick, fun little read full of anecdotes about Charles' youthful (bro?)romance with beer. While I didn't begin drinking beer until my 30s (I'm a late bloomer) I still had a great time reading it. Gramlich writes with a real twinkle in his eye with a very accessible style. Highly recommended for people who don't mind taking their reading a little less seriously from time to time. At the end of my days I may not be able to say I jammed with KISS, or had an orgy with the women from the cast of DEATH PROOF, but I will be able to say I split a sixer of Abita Beer with Charles. I'll die content.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Frothy Adventure January 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
A quick, enjoyable read as tasty as a cold one on a hot summer day. Reading this book is like sitting down and with great friends on a Friday night. The stories will make you smile, reminisce, and forget all about the hangovers that went along with them.
