5.0 out of 5 stars A striking book.
I found this an easy to read book about something I wish I had the guts to undertake. I like Wagoner's technique of narrating the mile by mile and his impressions of the local people. I admire him for making the tour and also for writing the book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not that great.
I found this book disappointing, especially after reading the rave reviews of others. This book tells the story of Harold Wagoner's bike ride from Seattle to New York. While I admire him for the adventure, most of the book is just reporting mileage, temperature, and meals. It is more a log book/journal than a travel story. We see little insight or growth from the author as...

Harold's descriptive writing made me feel I was riding with him every day. His "down home" humor reminded me of my childhood.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Book!, February 14, 2002

A friend bought me this book because I am interested in bicycle touring. Reading it was a real experience-and I mean real, not created. Wagoner's mile by mile narration makes the ride (and the book) as realistic as if I was doing it myself.

5.0 out of 5 stars "28 Days Behind Bars" is a remarkable read., January 10, 2002

The author of this book is real. Not some physically fit fitness fanatic. He is an ordinory man, who not only likes his handlebars but also the local taverns (bars). This adds a colorful touch to a book about a solo bicycle tour.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!, December 10, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: 28 Days Behind Bars (Paperback)
This book tells the story of a man who rode his bicycle across the northern route of the U.S.,from Seattle to New York City. But it tells more. We are included in reminiscences of the authors early farm life as well as his apprection of nature. His narration takes us with him into headwinds, up incredible grades, and down hills with rewarding tailwinds. What comes out overall is this mans love of like and his country.

5.0 out of 5 stars A remarkable accomplishment, December 10, 2001

This book gives you all the various feelings, thoughts and struggles of a lone bicyclist on a 3200 mile bicycle tour. The author engenders a respect for nature and of a time when automobiles and such were not so invasive. I enjoyed the wry sense of humor and the narration, especially on those days filled with headwinds.
