Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

It takes three weeks to make or break a habit, experts say. 21 Days to Eating Better guides you through a process for changing your eating habits, literally one day at a time for three weeks. Although this is a little book, it's packed with solid, helpful information and an underlying Christian perspective. Each day is a short chapter with a theme--such as "Take Control of Your Environment," "Build a Strong, Spiritual Foundation," "Make Exercise Fun Again," and "Damage Control for Binges"--with information, activities, tips, and scriptural support. For example, "Develop an Action Plan for Stress" acknowledges that we often eat to improve our mood and cope with stress. Jantz identifies five typical "food stressors"--such as believing we have to clean our plates, or being pressured by pushy people to eat more--with solutions for dealing with each of them. Each chapter ends with a succinct "lesson of the day" worded as an affirmation. If you have an emotional struggle with food and want a specific process to change your attitude and behavior, supported by your Christian faith, this book will become a good friend. --Joan Price

5.0 out of 5 stars 21 Days to Eating Better makes sense and it's easy!, September 16, 1998

This review is from: 21 Days to Eating Better (Paperback)
This book helped me to understand that my body is God's temple. It is my responsibility to serve God by taking care of His temple. Making small changes each day is the key to permanent changes. Although this book is not specifically about weight loss, following these small changes in habits, brings about that too. After following the suggestions, I felt better, healthier and more energetic. Making one small change at a time is so much easier than trying to change your whole life in a day.

2.0 out of 5 stars Still teaches you to diet..., April 13, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: 21 Days to Eating Better (Paperback)
Although Jantz writes that "Diets don't work.", he gives what truly is a diet in day 20. He calls it "healthy eating", but there IS a place for a piece of chocolate when you are eating balanced and nutritious meals! He says to get rid of "guilt" foods, but recommends that we do this by avoiding them altogether. This denial approach only sets you up for a major food craving, which easily leads to overeating that "forbidden" food, and then -- what else? -- GUILT. I recommend Gwen Shamblin's Weigh Down approach, as it more accurately illustrates a Christ-centered life & what our attitude towards food should be.
