Product Description

Are you a prisoner of gaining and losing weight only to become heavier…are your thoughts preoccupied with food issues, guilt, wishing things were different…have you lost hope in becoming healthy and staying healthy…do you believe you will be happier at a lower weight or a smaller dress size? If you’re like most women, you spend your days juggling many roles, conflicting commitments and the wants and needs of others. Often you come last, if there’s time. The temptation to reach for food as comfort or distraction can be overwhelming, although the issue is rarely about true hunger. More times than not, the underlying force is emotion. Eating emotionally can become a way of life.

Following two decades of research and practical experience, disordered eating expert Lorrie Jones developed the 21 Days of Eating Mindfully program, designed to encourage and support you in changing unwanted and unhealthy eating habits by transforming your relationship with yourself. This 21 day journey is not a diet or overnight cure. Rather, it’s an opportunity to inquire more deeply within, providing the keys to establishing a healthy, loving relationship with yourself and enjoying a favorable weight shift and wise eating choices as a natural result and sustainable outcome. With mindful awareness it’s possible to let go of the belief that eating or not eating will take away hurt, disappointment, loneliness–boredom, anger, emptiness. With mindful awareness you’ll learn skills and tools necessary to use food for only nourishment and healthy enjoyment.

If you’re ready to give up believing there’s something wrong with you–something that will change when you have a different body–then you’re ready for Eating Mindfully and embracing the present moment, ending your dysfunctional relationship with food. For 21 days you will be provided with mindful eating guidelines to put into practice in your daily life. There are three days of “food for thought”, related mindfulness activities and points to ponder for each of the letters in “HEALING”.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eating Mindfully holds the key to a healthy relationship with yourself & food, January 19, 2012

If you are like most women, you spend your days juggling many roles, conflicting commitments and the wants and needs of others. Often you come last, if there's time. The temptation to reach for food as comfort or distraction can be overwhelming; although the issue is rarely about food - more times than not, the underlying force is emotion. Eating emotionally can become a way of life.

Following two decades of research and practical experience in the field of disordered eating, I developed the guidebook 21 Days of Eating Mindfully: Your Guide to a Healthy Relationship with Yourself and Food, designed to encourage and support women to change unwanted and unhealthy eating habits by transforming their relationships with themselves and food.

My commitment is to work from my heart and to honor the sacredness of your process. If you are ready to give up believing there is something wrong with you - something that will change when you have a different body, or something else that will bring peaceful living only after doing something more - then you are ready for Eating Mindfully. 5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read for anyone struggling with food and body issues, October 17, 2011
By
A. Fisher (Seattle, WA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 21 Days of Eating Mindfully: Your Guide to a Healthy Relationship with Yourself and Food (Kindle Edition)
This a beautiful, compassionate and extremely helpful book. Although it's written for women, I think so much of it can be used by men as well. Lorrie leads the reader through a series of gentle and easy to follow day-by-day steps. Firstly, she explores the day's topic, such as Hunger & Healing, Empathy & Emotional Eating, Awareness & Acceptance, Love & Letting Be, Inquiry & Intention, Nurture & Nourishment, and Gratitude & Gracious Living. Next, she offers a Mindfulness Activity, which includes many thoughtful and investigative questions regarding one's beliefs about food, body, self-worth and the stories we tell ourselves, to name a few. Then, she encourages the reader to take a bit of time and write down responses to the day's Mindfulness Activity, often providing wonderfully evocative questions to spur one's writing along such as " Am I hungry for nourishment or for something deeper?" Or, "What challenges can you name that contain the gift of joy?" The videos and handouts provide additional support and resources on the path to becoming more aware in the present moment around issues with food and body.

I love this book. More than ever before, I'm able to recognize feelings as they emerge, stay with that awareness and allow myself to make different choices. This, to me, is freedom.

I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to change their relationship to food, but more importantly, I highly recommend this book to those who want to change their relationship to themselves.

5.0 out of 5 stars Insightful and powerful, September 26, 2011

Kelly (Seattle, WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 21 Days of Eating Mindfully: Your Guide to a Healthy Relationship with Yourself and Food (Kindle Edition)
As the editor of this book, I'm quite familiar with the content. However, now that I've followed the 21-day guide from the reader's perspective, I am astonished at how much I learned about myself. Powerful information to be armed with, for sure. I can now take this information and make better choices, redirect my emotional responses in healthier ways and simply be more mindful in the kitchen. This book provides valuable insights and tools and I highly recommend it to anyone who struggles with their relationship with food, their weight, their self-image. Mindfulness and self-awareness goes beyond how one eats, it's a life style, and this book holds the key to a healthier you.

More About the Author

Meet Lorrie Jones, MBSR, BSN, CYI and Founder of Simple Serenity LLC.

Our culture has indoctrinated most of us, particularly women, to believe media-defined thinness and beauty will bring happiness, bliss and self-love. Unfortunately, this is not true. Having myself gained and lost over 1,900 pounds during a decade of my life, I know the emotional pain of feeling physically unacceptable and how debilitating it can be.

Dedicated to fostering mindfulness, self-discovery and personal transformation in wellness and well being I provide education, consultation and coaching in the most effective principles and practices of what we call a "mind-body" approach to health and wholeness.

My passion is partnering with you on your journey, modeling and mentoring elegant and effective skills for embracing change and transformation within oneself, between one another and within our global community. My commitment is to work from my heart and to honor the sacredness of your process.

For more than 20 years I have been helping people transform their relationship with food and eating, and reclaim their self worth and self respect. From a foundation of traditional Western medicine, I weave Eastern wisdom, life experience, opportunity and learning and growth into a unique and innovative approach to living a life of wellness, balance and serenity. Rather than focus on what is ineffective, we embrace what is thriving, what is possible and what enhances the health and well-being of the individual or group. Within any life challenge there is hope for a flourishing and flowering of all that is beautiful in the human soul.

Being the only person in Washington State holding professional certification in teaching MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction), I offer state-of-the-art professional programs and mindfulness practices, with a special emphasis in the area of healing from disordered eating. Designed to educate, inspire and motivate, I offer mindfulness based practices and programs, weaving the essential elements of wellness, balance, purpose, and passion into the creation of a life of vibrant and sustainable health and well-being.

As a wellness practitioner, educator and coach, I have served individuals, groups, and hospitals with my expertise in health issues, specialty in eating behaviors, advanced professional training in stress reduction, extensive research in mind-body healing and dedication to learning and growth. From this rich soil of commitment, challenge and achievement, the birth and flowering of a sacred niche of professional offering has occurred. I am available for media interviews and speaking to your group.

My credentials include and are not limited to: BS Nursing; Certification in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction with Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, Center for Mindfulness; Insight Dialogue facilitators' training with Gregory Kramer; WA State certified counsleor; Beginning, Advanced and Senior Yoga and Mat Pilates.
