5.0 out of 5 stars Eating Mindfully holds the key to a healthy relationship with yourself & food, January 19, 2012
This review is from: 21 Days of Eating Mindfully: Your Guide to a Healthy Relationship with Yourself and Food (Kindle Edition)
If you are like most women, you spend your days juggling many roles, conflicting commitments and the wants and needs of others. Often you come last, if there's time. The temptation to reach for food as comfort or distraction can be overwhelming; although the issue is rarely about food - more times than not, the underlying force is emotion. Eating emotionally can become a way of life.

Following two decades of research and practical experience in the field of disordered eating, I developed the guidebook 21 Days of Eating Mindfully: Your Guide to a Healthy Relationship with Yourself and Food, designed to encourage and support women to change unwanted and unhealthy eating habits by transforming their relationships with themselves and food.

My commitment is to work from my heart and to honor the sacredness of your process. If you are ready to give up believing there is something wrong with you - something that will change when you have a different body, or something else that will bring peaceful living only after doing something more - then you are ready for Eating Mindfully. Through mindful awareness, you will learn skills and tools necessary to use food for only nourishment and healthy enjoyment.

Healthy living starts today, are you ready!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read for anyone struggling with food and body issues, October 17, 2011

This review is from: 21 Days of Eating Mindfully: Your Guide to a Healthy Relationship with Yourself and Food (Kindle Edition)
This a beautiful, compassionate and extremely helpful book. Although it's written for women, I think so much of it can be used by men as well. Lorrie leads the reader through a series of gentle and easy to follow day-by-day steps. Firstly, she explores the day's topic, such as Hunger & Healing, Empathy & Emotional Eating, Awareness & Acceptance, Love & Letting Be, Inquiry & Intention, Nurture & Nourishment, and Gratitude & Gracious Living. Next, she offers a Mindfulness Activity, which includes many thoughtful and investigative questions regarding one's beliefs about food, body, self-worth and the stories we tell ourselves, to name a few. Then, she encourages the reader to take a bit of time and write down responses to the day's Mindfulness Activity, often providing wonderfully evocative questions to spur one's writing along such as " Am I hungry for nourishment or for something deeper?" Or, "What challenges can you name that contain the gift of joy?" The videos and handouts provide additional support and resources on the path to becoming more aware in the present moment around issues with food and body.

I love this book. More than ever before, I'm able to recognize feelings as they emerge, stay with that awareness and allow myself to make different choices. This, to me, is freedom.

I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to change their relationship to food, but more importantly, I highly recommend this book to those who want to change their relationship to themselves.

5.0 out of 5 stars Insightful and powerful, September 26, 2011

As the editor of this book, I'm quite familiar with the content. However, now that I've followed the 21-day guide from the reader's perspective, I am astonished at how much I learned about myself. Powerful information to be armed with, for sure. I can now take this information and make better choices, redirect my emotional responses in healthier ways and simply be more mindful in the kitchen. This book provides valuable insights and tools and I highly recommend it to anyone who struggles with their relationship with food, their weight, their self-image. Mindfulness and self-awareness goes beyond how one eats, it's a life style, and this book holds the key to a healthier you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Helpful and easy, September 21, 2011
This review is from: 21 Days of Eating Mindfully: Your Guide to a Healthy Relationship with Yourself and Food (Kindle Edition)
This 21 day guidebook is SO thorough yet easy to use. The sayings and quotes used throughout are also encouraging as you journal daily. Journaling can be a very powerful, insightful and helpful tool. It made me aware of my daily events that are triggers for eating food at different times during the day. I many times don't eat enough during the day then I am starving by dinnertime. The ebook helps me look at my habits in a non-threatening way. It is like "talking" to a friend. "21 Days" is doable and supports people to take time for themselves.
