Nostalgia,
This review is from: Days with Frog and Toad (I Can Read, Level 2) (Paperback)
Even the title sounds a bit nostalgic. This is the last in the series about Frog and Toad, who are different but very good friends. Published in 1979, the two have not changed a whole lot, though the stories have gotten funnier - droll is perhaps a better word. The pessimistic Toad is procrastinating in "Tomorrow" until he realizes that he's down in the dumps because of all he has to do tomorrow - so he does it all today and tires himself out. In "The Kite," Frog's optomism pays off. "Shivers" has some scary tales that Frog enjoys telling, and Toad enjoys hearing. On Toad's birthday, in "the Hat" Frog gives a present that's a little too big, but Toad insists on keeping it. When Frog secretly fixes the problem while Toad is sleeping, Toad believes his head has grown. In the final story, "Alone," the two friends learn they can still be friends, even if they are alone sometimes. In all the books, the stories are short, sweet and about friendship, but in a simple manner. Drawings of Frog and Toad are on almost every page, and are detailed enough to warrant a lengthy view and some comments from young readers. The words are understandable and readable enough for very young readers, yet they manage to tell a story with an amusing message.

The entire Frog and Toad series are all good. They are funny and easy to read. They are one of the best children's books for a mom or dad to read as a bedtime story. I read them to my kids and my kids (five) grew to love the stories and the books contributed greatly to their ability and their joy of reading. Please get the whole series NOW. The paperbacks can be had for just a few dollars each... you can't go wrong!

This review is from: Days with Frog and Toad (I Can Read, Level 2) (Paperback)
This is a picture book with about 10 or so short stories about friendship. It's very good for reading to young children around 4-6 years old.All three Frog and Toad books are excellent and the stories are truly funny, well written, and say a great deal about what friendship is really about. This is one of those books that are even somewhat interesting to adults.

You should read Frog and Toad because they can teach kids a lot of lessons. For example, if you are a kid and you want to learn to be nice to a friend then Days with Frog and Toad is a really good book for you. You'll also learn that sometimes friends aren't nice to each other. So, if you're the kind of reader who wants to learn about relationships then this is a book for you to read.
Reviewed by Alasiah Do you want to be a hard working person like Toad and don't want to be lazy? Then Days with Frog and Toad is the book for you. The lesson is that you always should do your chores. In the beginning, Toad looked around and all his stuff was on the floor. Instead of picking it up, he said,"I'll do it tomorrow. Today I will take life easy". Will he learn his lesson about doing his chores? If you're a kid who doesn't like doing chores then this is the book for you. I would give this book five stars because it was a good book. I read the Frog and Toad series when I was very young. Now, 15 years later, I still occasionally take the books out and read them. Mr. Lobel's books are excellent for both children and adults. You will be heartwarmed by these charming stories about two best friends.

I have a 3 year old daughter that LOVES this series. The art is very "old" -but in a good way. She likes the story "The Shivers" most of all. You can't beat this series for the price, or the lessons learned.

Community Profile: A Wonderful Friendship,
By
This review is from: Days with Frog and Toad (I Can Read Book 2) (Hardcover)
Being good friends can make life sweet and fulfilling. That is what we see with one of our favorite neighborhood pal pairs, Frog and Toad, the subject of this week's "Community Profile."
As we all know, Frog and Toad are good friends. When Toad was in the dumps, literally: his house was a dump and he was in it and depressed about it, Frog was there for his friend to point out what he needed to do and Toad was able to realize what he needed to do, get his chores done, get out of the dumps and really enjoy life again. Frog didn't judge Toad and say "You are bad," nor did he reject him as hopeless but he didn't do Toad's chores for him either; he was there for Toad while Toad got himself out of the dumps and Felt much better. Frog and Toad do fun things together like flying kites. Frog encourages Toad to keep going when he wants to give up, and Toad keeps trying at Frogs encouragement until they succeed and enjoy their success together. Frog and Toad entertain each other, like the time Frog had Toad over for tea by the fireplace in comfortable chairs and Frog told such a scary story that he gave them both the shivers. They share special occasions together, like birthdays, feeling each other's sadness or joy, and when things go wrong, sacrificing to make them right. Sometimes they might have misunderstandings and insecurities, but they reassure each other and appreciate each other's efforts. Frog and Toad are a great example of "best friendship." "Days with Frog and Toad", by Arnold Lobel is a charming and heart-warming look at friendship in five chapters or "days." Every child should read this marvelous synopsis of a "best friendship" and have an adult explain the subtleties of building and maintaining great relationships.

I read stories from this book to my 2 1/2 yr old daughter nearly every night. She, in typical 2 1/2 yr old fashion, never tires of them -- what is notable is that I don't either. The characters of Frog and Toad are very skillfully crafted, and the stories teach the values of friendship against a backdrop of elegantly simple illustrations. To tell it straight, I just love Frog and Toad, nearly as much as my daughter.

Frog & Toad are Gods!,

This review is from: Days with Frog and Toad (I Can Read Book 2) (Library Binding)
The Frog and Toad series, by Arnold Lobel, is comprised of four of the most amusing books I have ever read. When my children were little, I prayed they would ask for Frog and Toad, so that I had an excuse to read them again. Today, I've been known to read through one of the stories on my own, just for fun. A couple of these sagas make me laugh so hard I get tears in my eyes. Whimsy, warmth, and two delightful characters bring this sweet collection, written in a positive and warm way, to life. They are sure to delight ANY child, of ANY age.
