Book Description

June 1975
This popular book, recounting the author's visit to the Ashram of Sri Ramana Maharshi in 1949,was first published in 1953.It has been out of print for many years and is now republished in a limited edition by the Asram.

Through a narrative that is both simple and profound the author takes us on his journey to the quiet hermitage of the renowned sage of Arunachala in South India.Basking in the radiance of the 'Great Rishi',his mind turns inward, following the path of Self-enquiry of 'Who Am I'?.He describes with perceptive insight and emotion, how in the gracious presence of the Master, thoughts are stilled and one rests calmly in the thought free, egoless state, which he calls 'samadhi'.Before his final farewell of the holy Sage,he establishes the link of love that binds him to the Guru in an embrace that leads inevitably to final emancipation.

Monui Sadhu has left us a small treasure in this book.Readers will remember and cherish it through out their lives.

For seekers, this book may be more than a curiosity:it may be a light kindling a resposnive light in the heart and pointing the way where all darkness seemed before.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing less can be expected from Mouni Sadhu, January 29, 2007

This is one of those books that you always have handy... that you always go back and read, and read... A lot of (not found elsewhere) details about Sri Maharshi mixed with daily inspirational occurrences. A wonderful mix as it should be. Many questions are answered, every page is a fountain of knowledge. How did Mouni fit so much knowledge in so few pages?! Of course, you must slowly read it or you will pass it all! To give you an idea, I just opened the book randomly and it reads: "It is tragic how we believe that our separateness is real, that what we have is our own, and so remain untouched by the needs of others". I opened it again randomly: "While one is immersed in water one cannot see anything above the water's surface. The world above is veiled from sight". "Thought must always have an object, however sublime it may be, thus there must always be two, not one. Therefore thought and its process is a blind alley". I think you get the idea.

5.0 out of 5 stars worth reading, July 27, 2005
This review is from: In Days of Great Peace (Paperback)
A lot of information on ramana maharshi. In fact, if you are interested in learning more about the maharshi, there is no better book. The book does not focus on the teachings of ramana maharshi, but it does an excellent job of giving the reader as actual an experience it was, sitting at the feet of the maharshi.

5.0 out of 5 stars A blend of personal experience and spirtual instruction, December 25, 2007
This review is from: In Days of Great Peace (Paperback)
The author ,Mouni Sadhu, spent a few weeks towards the end of Sri Ramana Maharshi's earthly life at Tiruvannamalai in Maharshi's ashram...The author who had practised occult methods and later prayed at a RC monastery in Paris was drawn to Maharshi...He subtly describes his internal experiences and thoughts. What is noteworthy is that he gently gives the "Spritual Instruction" of the Maharshi, the Atma Vichara or Self enquiry in easily understandable way at several places...This narration helps a novice like me to 'learn' the method of Sri Ramana quite easily..... a book worth having by all Ramana students and devotees.
