Not as good as my memories,
This review is from: Days of Innocence Collection (Audio CD)
If I could have picked 3.5 stars, I would have, but I opted for rounding up since I used to really love this band. I still immensely enjoy the music for its intensely energetic blues-rock quality. However, the lyrics - especially in the songs from the original "Days of Innocence" album - suffer from age. I get the feeling that perhaps it isn't their own age that they suffer from, but mine instead. These songs, which were anthemic to me as a teenager, now seem to be strangely sophomoric. I guess I'm just at a different place in my life now - and happily so, being just a bit past 40. I am oh-so-glad not to be feeling the kind of angst that is expressed herein.
That being said, there are some songs that came along after the original album that seem to suggest the band had the potential to mature; had they been able to stick around long enough to see that to fruition, I'm quite certain the result would have been wondrous to behold. "Winners" was apparently their only legitimate hit (in Australia, their homeland) after "DoI", and it was a hit with very good reason. "Spies" is another tune that significantly held my interest for more than one listen. Of course, "Never" is still an absolute classic, having been written by the king of '80s soundtrack songwriters, Dean Pitchford, and one of his buddies. I do find it curious that they went back to the original album title and cover photograph for this collection. Perhaps it was only because all the songs from that first album are here. Oh, well ...

Great collection!,
This review is from: Days of Innocence Collection (Audio CD)
Just like the title says, the "Ultimate Collection". If you always wanted to hear what else Moving Pictures could do, here's your chance. A great mix of different sounds from the same group. A great addition to your 80's (or any other) collection!
