Good overview of the Bible,
By
This review is from: 30 Days to Understanding the Bible in 15 Minutes a Day: Expanded Edition (Paperback)
For those who have no experience with the Bible at all, and even for those who have read the Bible through 16 times, this is a good book because it helps you understand the background of the books of Holy Writ. Whether you take 30 days or 3 months, the system is manageable because the lessons are made to be completed in about 10-15 minutes a day. For those wanting to incorporate this into a quiet time, the lessons will force you to become disciplined by writing out some of the basic information presented. Over and over again you practice what you learn. And as a teacher, I find this to be one of the best methods in teaching--learning by doing. By the end of the book, you will be looking Max Anders' name up on Amazon so you can buy other "30 Day" books.

We use this book as our guide in our Sunday school class. It's called Bible 101. This book has helped me and others finally understand things in the Bible that we never have before! I recommend this book to anyone who would like to understand more about the Bible and even for people who think they know a lot about the Bible. Everyone benifits from this book!

Couldn't say it clearer,
This review is from: 30 Days to Understanding the Bible in 15 Minutes a Day: Expanded Edition (Paperback)
If you are new to the Bible, or if you are an old scholar, this book is for you. It provides a clear chronlogical order, explains some of the most complex issues of the Bible in the simpliest terms without losing any of the Godly inspiration of the Bible. As a pastor with a Ph.D. in Biblical studies, I must highly recommend this book. It would also be great as a textbook for a college Bible course.

Max Anders does a tremendous job of boiling down what's important into a memorable format for any and all Bible students. This book serves as an excellent guide for a new believer's Bible study.

Simple is why it is effective,

I disagree that this book is too simplistic. I am teaching this book to a Wednesday night Bible Study of life long Christians. We are using this book as a foundation to grow on. Last week one of the ladies said, "It is good to go over the things we were taught as a kid, but then never heard about them again."
I figure, by using this book we are going through the entire Bible, all of the "necessary" story lines, the geography, the historical eras, main characters, and outline in 12 weeks. After this foundational class the Wednesday night Bible studies will build off of this. For example if I am teaching about Nehemiah next, my class will hopefully say, "Oh yeah, I remember him, he lived during the Return Era we learned about. They will remember the basics of Nehemiah and we can build off of that knowledge. We are excited to get back to the basics and learn the sturcture of God's Word!

This book is great for anyone, beginer or seasoned. It ties all the themes of the old and new testament together so neatly. I've bought extra copies for freinds and family who state they get bogged down trying to understand what the Bible is about. Most of the info I had heard before but it was nice to have it in one read with explanations of how it all fits together.

A Bible Teacher,

This review is from: 30 Days to Understanding the Bible in 15 Minutes a Day: Expanded Edition (Paperback)
I give this book five stars because it nearly meets the goal stated in its title. The Bible is difficult to understand for a variety of reasons. It was written in two non-English languages and addressed to cultures different from our own. It was written well over 1000 years ago. Additionally, it was compiled by a number of different authors over many centuries. In spite of these challenges, Anders is able to introduce and overview this complex book with a minimal amount of commitment from his reader. Will you understand every word of the Bible after reading this book? No. But you will understand much more than the average lay person.

Gist of the Bible and How Its Parts Connect,
By Encompassed Runner (Florida, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 30 Days to Understanding the Bible in 15 Minutes a Day: Expanded Edition (Paperback)
Here's a Bible basics self-study book for new believers or even unbelievers that presents the Bible in a structured and clear way that conveys both the plot (historical storyline) and the themes (doctrines/teachings) running thru the plot. Anders uses fill-in-the-blanks, charts, tables, and icons, as well as a spiral approach that spirals back to old topics for reinforcement before adding the next lesson. Near the end of the book, Anders very briefly sums it up and then presents the gospel message with a walk-thru on how to become a Christian. By the time one gets thru this book, they'll have the gist of what's in the Bible and how each part connects, thus providing the groundwork for later growth, for filling in the details. (This expanded, updated edition added teaching helps at the back.)

I have used this book for several years to teach a "Bible 101" class. It is a very good resource for learning a basic overview of the entire Bible, from the geography and structure to the main characters, themes and teachings. It is a great catalyst for a follow-up in-depth class.

A Solid Foundation,
By T Smith (Holly Springs, NC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 30 Days to Understanding the Bible in 15 Minutes a Day: Expanded Edition (Paperback)
Once completing this book, the reader will be able to navigate the Bible easily, which is paramount to understanding Christianity. We have used it in my church for a foundation for other adult study classes for years. You can really see the difference in higher level Christian classes between the students that used this book and students that didn't. Historical and geographical understanding are important because it puts Biblical events and customs in context. "30 Days" helps you retain and explain the information you learn, which is its greatest achievement.
