Wooooaaaaooooaaaahhhh!!!,

These guys rip it up. Saw them about two years ago, bought their last album right after thier set. Just recently I got this which is even better than BUTTERFLY COLLECTION. Yeah, the singer has this weird vocal style very similar to Ray Cappo of Youth of Today. Some say if you like early AFI you will like this but I don't think there is any connection there (musically speaking.) The riffs are really fast and change into unexpected dissonance at times making for a dark or evil sound. Eric's lyrics are also kind of obscure and artsy at times making for the band's dark image that it portrays. There is really no other hardcore band like these guys.

Here, we're presented with 16 tracks of dark, raging hardcore in the vein of early AFI. The riffs are sharp and fierce, and the vocals erupt with sincerity and emotion. Though the band is gothically influenced, they keep close to their roots, and don't stray too far from the standard hardcore punk sound. However, they have just enough of an edge to win them over as one of the better punk outfits to arise in the late 90's. Do yourself a favor and pick up their other two albums, as well as this one. Neither are quite as focused or consistent as Days of the White Owl, but they're worth checking out. I've heard that they are now broken up, which would be a true shame, because vocalist Eric Ozenne, along with the rest of the band members, possesses notable talent.

This is probably one of my favorite hardcore/punk albums in my collection. I've had this for a few years but still listen to this as much as when I bought it. I like the addition of the cover track, "Evil", by 45 Grave. You can definitely hear the darker influential side on this album which is great. They were coming on the Bay scene in a big way back in the day. Too bad they couldn't keep it going. Eric Ozene is a great frontman! If you like this, check out Redemption 87. That is another great band from Eric and Jade ( guitarist of AFI ). Long live the Nerve Agents!
