Wooooaaaaooooaaaahhhh!!!,

These guys rip it up. Saw them about two years ago, bought their last album right after thier set. Just recently I got this which is even better than BUTTERFLY COLLECTION. Yeah, the singer has this weird vocal style very similar to Ray Cappo of Youth of Today. Some say if you like early AFI you will like this but I don't think there is any connection there (musically speaking.) The riffs are really fast and change into unexpected dissonance at times making for a dark or evil sound. Eric's lyrics are also kind of obscure and artsy at times making for the band's dark image that it portrays. There is really no other hardcore band like these guys.

Here, we're presented with 16 tracks of dark, raging hardcore in the vein of early AFI. The riffs are sharp and fierce, and the vocals erupt with sincerity and emotion. Though the band is gothically influenced, they keep close to their roots, and don't stray too far from the standard hardcore punk sound. However, they have just enough of an edge to win them over as one of the better punk outfits to arise in the late 90's. Do yourself a favor and pick up their other two albums, as well as this one. Neither are quite as focused or consistent as Days of the White Owl, but they're worth checking out. I've heard that they are now broken up, which would be a true shame, because vocalist Eric Ozenne, along with the rest of the band members, possesses notable talent.

This is probably one of my favorite hardcore/punk albums in my collection. I've had this for a few years but still listen to this as much as when I bought it. I like the addition of the cover track, "Evil", by 45 Grave. You can definitely hear the darker influential side on this album which is great. They were coming on the Bay scene in a big way back in the day. Too bad they couldn't keep it going. Eric Ozene is a great frontman! If you like this, check out Redemption 87. That is another great band from Eric and Jade ( guitarist of AFI ). Long live the Nerve Agents!

This band is real hardcore. One of the greatest ones around. You can definately tell theyre an awesome live band by the live pics of them (the singer looks a little scary & possesed on live photos.) Mix the sounds of Minor Threat & AFI(two of my fave bands ever)together & you would probably get The Nerve Agents. Awesome, 600 stars! Oh, it doesn't go that high, sorry. 5 STARS!

Great CD,

I bought this CD after seeing them live, and hearing them for the first time. I went to see a band named Thrice, and these guys were playing, and I was blown away! When these got on stage, I wasn't anticipating what I heard. I saw 4 or so guys dressed up in all black, looking kinda goth like, but then the singer started going, and I couldn't believe it. It was one of the best things I had ever heard. The first reviewer of this CD said something I've thought ever from the beginning, the singer does sound like Ray Cappo, which isn't a bad thing, cuz Youth of Today is one of my favorite bands. But this is such an awesome CD, and the man himself, Davey Havoc, does some back-up vocals too. This CD is a must have for any punk and hardcore fan. Go out and buy this today, and while you're at it, buy and AFI and Thrice CD. It should do you some good.

Perfect Punk Rock,
By
This review is from: Days of the White Owl (Audio CD)
This CD is one of my absolute favorite punk rock albums of all time, up there with anything from Dillinger Four, and...well, that's about it. Anyway, getting back to the Nerve Agents, this is their first full-length album and it rocks all the way through 16 tracks (including some nice piano bits at the beginning and end, plus a cover of 45 Grave's "Evil"). Every song is a complete scorcher, full of energy and a full-on rock fury with enough sing alongs and dance parts to keep any punker happy. If you're into fast punk (bordering on hardcore), you pretty much need this, as well as the rest of The Nerve Agents stuff...it's just too bad that there's so little of it. Then again, it's better to burn out than fade away.

Terrific Sophomore Effort!,

This review is from: Days of the White Owl (Audio CD)
For any fans of AFI, Redemption 87, Model American and Bay Area punk/hc in general, the Nerve Agents are one band you HAVE TO check out. Their sophomore album on Revelation shows plenty of growth since their s/t debut. Whereas their first album may have felt rushed, "Days of the White Owl" sounds like a band who has been around for years, just going through the motions. The song writing has improved a lot since the s/t debut, and the recording quality on DOTWO is much better as well. If you like the s/t album, you will love DOTWO, if you have yet to hear the Nerve Agents, imagine Ray Cappo singing for a cross between TSOL and AFI. VERY punk rock, VERY good! Standout tracks include: Fall of the All American, Portland, Out on the Farm, and more. My only complaint about this album is that sometimes the songs seem to get a little lost amongst themselves. They sound very similar, there is not a lot of fluctuation in terms of style on DOTWO. However, if you like the style (as I do), this can be a pretty good thing.

Lamanada!,
By
This review is from: Days of the White Owl (Audio CD)
This band rocked!...It sucks that they broke up...Like alot of great bands...Why did they have to do like everyone else?...I guess I should be happy that they WERE a band...
Anyways... I'd like to start off by saying...Thank you,Andy, for being a begger...If it wasn't for you...there might not have ever been a Nerve Agents... ...And everyone knows how bad that would be...For without The Nerve Agents, there wouldn't be that wonderful word...Lamanada...Yes...That word...The very word Eric made as he so melodicly sang the ending of "Next in Line"...And his beautifully sang lyrics...Along with very talent filled guitars, bass, and drums... This band was one of the best... And it's all thanks to Andy...and Eric,ofcourse...And everyone else too....but mainly Andy and Eric... You get my point... They rocked!...That's my point... |
