Product Description

From the frozen shores of Lake Lagoda to the burning ruins of Stalingrad, relive some of the most intense battles of WWII, where entire Army groups disappeared faster than a single battalion on the beaches of Normandy. Devoted to the ferocious battles that pit the Axis and Soviet forces against each other, the Eastern Front expansion for Memoir '44 also includes a scenario drawn from the Russian-Finnish war and an Overlord scenario of what turned out to be the largest tank battle in history: Kursk. Note: An original copy of Memoir '44 is required to play.

The rule set, is tweaked just enough to make that apparent without being heavy-handed.

The Eastern Front Expansion is an outstanding addition to the rather large Memoir '44 collection of products. A few things make this one stand out for me compared to other items in the line. First, the production quality is top notch and it seems to me that the Red Army figs are even a bit heavier and more solid that those in the base M44 set. The art on the terrain tiles and the unit markers is top notch just like other sets. The snowy setting of the terrain is really distinctive and impactful especially on the M44 winter map (sold separately).

However, my favorite part of the expansion is the rules for the new units. In particular, Snipers and the Finnish Ski troops are tremendously fun to play. Both can really cause havoc for your opponent and are a really good example of how to expand a simple game and keep it fun.

Great job Days of Wonder!

Not a complete game in itself this is an addition to Memoir 44.

As add ons go this one is very good. It plays differently than the original and isn't just a couple of new scenarios. As always with Days of Wonder production quality is high and pleasing to the eye. The game is fun if a little to random to merit the 5th Star but if you enjoyed the original then I recommend this add on.

Enjoy.

The Eastern front Expansion for the marvelous Memoir 44 game is a welcome addition. As an Eastern Front buff it has been great to add these grindfests to our Memoir 44 game nights. The addition of a complete Russian army is an added bonus and the Overlord mission is incredible.

This expansion will add hours of fun to your gaming and open up a whole new front or wargaming possiblities. The Commissar rules add a fun twist to the card play system for the Russian player and the use of minefields provides some interesting twists. I highly recommend this addition to a great game system.

Shipment came no issues. Nice to be able to purchase these through Amazon and have it fulfilled by Amazon without having to create an account at Days of Wonder... though I might have to at some point.

To be honest, I was not all that happy when I first opened it. The price, I payed $30, being so close to the original game I think I was expecting a bit more in the box. I knew the board was not included but I think I expected new playing cards, perhaps another set of Germans. Essentially all you get for your $ is new scenarios, some new additions/mix ups to the rules, new terrains which are mostly visual but some have different effects and the (as others have mentioned very cool) Russian infrantry/tanks/artillary. So for like 10 bucks less than the original I get half the game which after I thought about it kind of bugged me. After playing it though, as others mentioned, the new rules are very cool and the scenarios are fresh and don't feel rehashed so you keep learning more history and stretching your strategy to new situations.

I bought the separate board because... it's just cool, but if I was to have a critique it's that this expansion should include the snow board for the price... or be 5-10$ less. Perhaps my expectations are off but going based on the price of the original I think it's a fair complaint.

I got this M44 expansion this Easter to play with my dad [hes the only one that plays it with me]. It's my first expansion and Days of Wonder pulled through. The playing ability is nice and I like how most of the new rules are used in at least one scenario, altough a couple of rules aren't used and you can only play 6 out of the 8 scenarios included [that is unless you have the 2 sets of the origanal game and a terrain pack]. The ones you do get are great! There is one Stalingrad scenario that has ten medals! Great first expansion! Also, highly recomended is the winter desert map for visaul effect.

I absolutely love this expasion to M44 -- love the political commissar chip, the battles, the Soviet artillery, T34 tanks, and the infantry -- definitely worth the money. Make sure to also order the Snow/sand hex map. Battling in the snow is something else -- also have some vodka ready, and Russian tunes playing in the background! Possibly my favourite expansion so far.
