By Days of WonderContains: 48 Geomorphic Two-sided Terrain Tiles (26 Geomorphic Hex-shaped Terrain tiles featuring 3 Regions each, 12 Mountain tiles, 6 Chasms and 4 Peaks), 12 Tunnels, 10 Victory Coin Mines, 8 Miscellaneous Tokens (Rusted Throne, etc.), 6 River Border Markers, 1 Game Turn Track and 1 Rules booklet with 12 Scenarios.Small World Realms features scores of puzzle-like geomorphic Terrain regions and a dozen new Scenarios, including such instant classics as The Rusted Throne and A Game of Gods. Players can also creatively combine the Terrain to build their own custom maps and scenarios making Realms the definitive world-building toolkit for Small World and Small World Underground fans alike.Small World Realms holds 48 geomorphic Terrain tiles: 26 of these are hexagonal-shaped Terrain tiles split in 3 Regions each; each Region corresponds to one of the Terrain type first introduced in Small World (on one side) and Small World Underground (on the other side). These tiles can be assembled puzzle-like in countless variations, at the players choice, or set according to one of the 12 custom scenarios presented in the rules booklet. The variety of Regions paired on these hex-shaped tiles, and the rotations that can be applied to each tile, make up for endless variations: Where two Terrain tiles juxtaposed to each other might present the players with neighboring Hill regions in one game, a Marsh might suddenly appear in the next scenario, with a simple twist of a Tile.

Overall, it is relaxing fun with a good amount of strategy involved at the same time.

Setup takes an additional 5-10 minutes, but it's well worth it!

**This is not a standalone game. You MUST have a copy of Small World or Small World Underground to Play.**

Realms is a neat twist for the Small World collection that takes the focus off of new races and powers and instead centers on terrain, essentially providing a completely customizable game board. The ability to expand the playing area also increases the max number of players from 5 to 6 without compromising game balance, which is always appreciated.

There are twenty-six hex-shaped tiles each containing up to three sub-sections and a mix of farmland, forests, hills, marshes and water (which can denote lakes, rivers or seas) and twenty-two "single" pieces: twelve mountains, four peaks and six chasms. The reverse side of each piece has the corresponding terrain type from Underground. Also included are some miscellaneous tokens (places of power, artifacts, creatures, etc) and the Tunnels mini-expansion (for connecting "regular" and Underground areas) .

Realms is an exquisitely designed and realized expansion. The pieces allow totally flexibility in creating a gameboard, really opening up an already highly replayable series even further. But the best part is the rulebook. No, I'm not joking - it comes with excellent guidelines for making your board so that it doesn't unbalance the game, along with twelve preset scenarios that range in difficulty and the number of players they accommodate. These scenarios are creative and interesting, the few I've played so far have been a lot of fun, and their inclusion makes this set worthwhile even for those who don't necessarily want to spend time perfecting their own boards.

Overall Realms is an outstanding expansion that is practically a must own if you enjoy Small World.

Highly recommended.

A must have for fans of the series. If you've played the original layout 20 times or more you start to develop certain strategies based on the board layout. This expansion will keep that from ever being a problem again. There are plenty of scenarios that come along with the game, but you can also just make your own maps for endless playability.

Small World is a great game and this makes it feel new.

Half the fun with this is setting up the map for the game and so of course it does add setup time to the game.

The Tiles are labeled A to Z and it is a bit of a pain putting them back in order when you are done with them.

The Scenarios in the book are interesting. They introduce some new rules mechanics besides just playing on different maps.

The pieces are sturdy but they don't lock together so it is a little more fiddly than regular Small World.

Overall it adds some fun elements to an already fun game.

while it adds a lot to game play the set up and explanation of how to play is difficult i recommend getting smallworl underground first it adds a bunch of new characters and is like a game all by itself, playing Realms without both the original and underground makes set up for most scenarios harder as well. for the price i expected a little more

If you're reading this review, then you like smallworld, here is a great chance to mix it up. Not only does it include the custom map pieces, but there are relics, popular places and the Tunnels expansion included.

Only downside is there isn't a shortcut for relics and popular places for this expansion.

This expansion is a must! After playing the base game we were hooked so we bought all of the small expansions to add more races but expansion gives the player ultimate flexibility. Designing your own board is awesome and can make for a lot of unexpected bottle necks.

If you like palying Smallworld, buy it.
