Product Description

Dayton Audio DAEX25 Sound Exciters turn virtually any solid object into a speaker by vibrating it at speeds of up to 20,000 cycles per second. The vibrations modulate the air, which is then decoded by the brain as sound. We've tested and placed Sound Exciters on nearly everything you can imagine; under a desk, in an overhead cabinet, behind picture frames, inside cans, behind paper plates, inside binders, cardboard, scraps of wood and even the box they came in! Test the limits of your imagination. Each stick on Sound Exciter is designed using patented nxt® transducer technology for a wide frequency response and great sensitivity. Built-in push terminals enable quick connection to the included pre-stripped speaker wire. Strong 3M adhesive pads affix to nearly any solid surface for secure, long-lasting playback. Package includes two Dayton Audio Sound Exciters and two pairs of 5 ft. speaker wire. Specifications: • Power handling: 6W RMS • Impedance: 8 ohms • VCdia: 1" • Dimensions: 3-1/2" dia. x 3/4".

4.0 out of 5 stars Now have rear speakers on my BMW R1200CLC, October 10, 2008

I was looking for rear speakers for my motorcycle, a 2003 BMW R1200CLC, when I came across the Dayton Sound Exciters. Since the price was right, and REALLY didn't want to cut holes in the top case of the bike, I figured I'd try these... if they didn't work, well, I'm only out 3 cups of Starbucks coffee! Hooked them up last night, and although they are not as powerful as my front speakers, they are plenty loud for the passenger when I set the fader to have more volume in the back, (so my wife is now happy). (Note: part of the volume thing could be my fault - instead of using BMW cable ends, which I didn't have, I used Radio Shack butt connectors in the wire harness...) Anyway - frequency response thru the fiberglass/ABS plastic top case is very good, and I recommend them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Little Novelty, March 10, 2010

I bought these out of sheer curiosity and because they were cheap. Basically, they turn anything you attach them to into speakers. They offer the possibility of talking displays, storyboards and the like.

The sound is nothing special, but can be surprising depending on they're attached to. I would suggest playing with different materials before finally fixing them permanently. The sound can range from AM pocket transistor radio (Altoids tin) to mid fi (my armoire doors and a metal clock and foam board), depending on they're affixed to. Basically, thin, rigid materials produced the nicest sound for me.

I was thinking these would be nifty little gadgets for museums, kiosks at malls, and the like. They would also be fun for holidays like Halloween, and maybe a practical joke or two.

Again, if you're expecting audiophile sound, you will be sorely disappointed. However, they ARE a fun cheap little toy to play with (my intentions).

5.0 out of 5 stars Sounds better than you think, and a lot of fun to play with, December 3, 2010

These things are great fun just to mess around with. I live in an apartment with a large balcony off of the living room, and I wanted a solution for sound outside without having to move my speakers, crank them up, or spend lots of money on true waterproof speakers. These were my creative solution to the problem.

I mounted them on the inside of the windows that face the balcony. They provide surprisingly decent sound on both sides of the window at exactly the same volume. Now I can have comfortable background music levels both indoors and outdoors at the same time.
