I discovered Margaret Far when Delerium's recent album, "Chimera," was released. Margaret is the featured vocalist on track 3, "Just a Dream," which has become one of my all-time favorite songs. Words seriously can't express how much I love that song. I sensed a lot of talent from Ms. Far based on that single performance and desired to hear more of her work. To my knowledge, this album and Chimera are the only CDs which feature her voice. It's almost a shame, considering how she has one of the most dynamic voices to appear in the music scene in recent years, but I'm thankful that she has a solo album to begin with (many of the other Delerium vocalists don't).
This album is amazing. It's so diverse and really can't be classified in a single genre. There's the driving techno/trance "Half Man Half Horse," the ambient ballad "In All Your Love," the Enya-like "Little Blue Room" and the trip-hop masterpiece "I Dwell In Possibility" which earned Margaret a semi-finalist position in the John Lennon Songwriting Competition. It boggles my mind as to why she didn't get first place with this song! This album is great and comes highly recommended from a long-time fan of Enigma, Delerium, Enya, Dido, Peter Gabriel, Sarah McLachlan and similar artists. If you like any of them, definitely check out this album. Margaret has a website, http://www.margaretfar.com/ that hasn't been updated since the release of Chimera. I check it almost daily hoping to see an update or info about her upcoming album. If anyone out there knows any details pertaining to this album, please e-mail me. enigmaphs2001@hotmail.com

Margaret Far's CD, DayTrip, is STUNNING! Overall, the entire CD is varied, entertaining and presents an interesting variation and twist on every track. General words I would use to describe the album: R&B mixed with electronic club sound; sensual, gorgeous and creative vocal textures. The lyrics and easy tone and color of Far's voice is sensual and easy to listen to. The occasional driving instrumental (Half Man, Half Horse) sound is a great contrast to her voice. Then there are the ballads, where the instrumental work is lush, layered, textured and creative. Beyond that, this (In all your love, Sing me to Sleep) is where Far's voice truly shines!HALF MAN, HALF HORSE: EXTREMELY cool! The vocal effects are awesome and the drive of the instrumental work is powerful. LITTLE BLUE ROOM: Incredible! Though the electonic and instrumental work on this CD is incredibly creative, to hear an acoustic piano and Margaret Far with no effects is a wonderful and gorgeous surprise, even though it is only for a few measures. Stunning vocal arranging, lush harmonies with impecable intonation. OVERALL this CD is a masterful effort with the perfect balance of creative electronic music writing, innovative and lush vocal arranging and a full palate of musical colors. What Monet did for impressionistic painting, Far has done for electronic and vocal music. BUY THIS CD!!!!

Not a review here, just the will to share a little of the magic brought by Margaret Far.Hard to find words to describe the depth, the beauty, the sweetness, the mystical power of her voice. This music will catch your breath and feed your soul. Never ever heard this before ...this is her first album ... where is she coming from ? ... maybe she was an Angel before. |
