5.0 out of 5 stars Trust Earl, September 11, 2009
This review is from: Daytrips France: 48 One-Day Adventures by Rail, Bus or Car--Includes Paris Walking Tours, Sixth Edition (Paperback)
Take my word for it, trust Earl. Having lived in Europe off and on for 10 years and annual visits since 1992, I know France fairly well. Earl will take you to places you actually want to experience, little out of the way delights, beautiful views, or slightly off the beaten path cultural stops - rather than checking off yet another world famous location you'll find on some tourist office's list. He'll fill you in on how to avoid crowds, scams, and overpriced trinkets. After using Michelin guides for years, I found Earl's advice and voice more in line with what I wanted to see as a tourist. I have four of Earl's books in this series and use(d) them diligently the last 15 years. I'm not into spending time at obvious tourist traps, but enjoy taking a nice walk through a part of town that's full of charming sites I'd never see at home. Along the way, with the help of these books, I have a nice lunch, a drink later in the day, and a lovely dinner. A perfect day. Build your own perfect memories and buy these books.

This review is from: Daytrips France: 48 One-Day Adventures by Rail, Bus or Car--Includes Paris Walking Tours, Sixth Edition (Paperback)
Earl Steinbickler lists 48 trips in this edition of "Daytrips France", and thanks to him, we've been able to take 35 of them during our previous visits for France. Whether we stayed in Paris, Avignon, or Nice, Mr. Steinbickler's ideas for venturing both inside and outside of town created non-stressful touring, especially for people like us who prefer taking trains or buses to renting cars. For traveling in a group, this book makes making destination decisions for the day a breeze.
