Perfect!,

This review is from: Daytrips Germany: 60 One Day Adventures by Rail or by Car in Bavaria, the Rhineland, the North and the East (Paperback)
Before our family trip for 10 days throughout Germany, I purchased a few different travel guides. After having each of them in hand before leaving home, we took 3 books with us. By the 3rd day, we only carried 2 books with us: this one and then as a BACKUP, Rick Steves' Germany and Austria 2006. Those 2 books were great for finding tourist sites, great restaurants and hotels that could accommodate 2 adults and 2 kids (most hotels don't have rooms with 2 beds!)

This book was very helpful while planning my trip to Germany. My time was very limited in Germany so I wanted to just hit the high points in each area. Although the book is a couple years old, I found the information to be accurate and helpful. I especially found it helpful for my trip to the North. There are many other books that have lots of information on Bavaria and the Rhineland but basically nothing on the cities in the North. So this book gave me some ideas. It was organized by regions in a very understandable way. My daughter and I traveled with backpacks via the train system so we carefully decided each item as to its value in carrying with us and this book was one of the things we took. So, I would recommend it to anyone going to Germany who likes to pick and plan what they want to see.

I highly recommend this book to anyone traveling to Germany. Even though my mother is a native German and I spent a large part of my childhood in Germany, this book is invaluable to me! It is packed with a wealth of information. Not only are the itineries well planned, the maps easy to follow and the "day trips" really easy to do in a day, but the restaurant choices are also terrific... Every restaurant that we ate at was in this guide and every one was fabulous. Hurray for Mr. Steinbicker! Please keep them coming!!!!

My Favorite Travel Series,

This book series is ideal for tourists that want to get more out of their trips. I own five in the series and I just bought a sixth! Our last trip to Germany was a business trip for my husband. While he worked I used this book to daytrip to surrounding towns. Staying in one town and using the efficient public transport in Europe for daytrips is an ideal way to travel. You also learn more about a town from a walking tour than you will from any other kind. And this book may include places you hadn't considered but are gems (like my trip to Gosling).

Excellent resource for base-city travellers,

We just came back from a 10-day trip to Germany, 1st time, focused on Bavaria & Rhineland. We stayed 7 days in Munich and 3 in Frankfurt. No matter how much advanced planning, there always is the possibility to make changes once you get there. For example, at Frankfurt we made a change to take the Rhine Cruise. The chapters on Rhine Cruise, Rudesheim, Koblenz, and Mainz all helped.
I had bought 4 other books for the trip. This book proved to be the best resource that helped us in pre-trip planning, as well as in-trip tour guide.

This book has been well-used during my time in Germany (stationed here with a military husband). On weekends that I feel the need to get out and enjoy the country (which is a lot during nice weather!), I just grab this book and go! The maps and suggested tours are wonderful!

This book is an excellent guide for first time travellers in Germany.
My wife and I used the first edition of the book on our first trip to Germany over 20 years ago. Now we are planning our 6th trip and this new edition will go along with us. The clear, easy to follow walking tour plans as well as the detailed instruction for traveling from town to town erase many of the uncertanties and gives the confidence necessary for being in an unknown town by yourself.

This book was very helpful in planning a 10 day trip to Bavaria. There was so much we wanted to see and do and were having a difficult time planning an itinerary. This book helped us get the most out of our trip planning! Glad I got it!

I just came back from Germany and I brought this book along almost every single day of my trip. It was the most useful to me when we were in the cities like berlin, frankfurt and munich. I find that the trips are very easy to follow and even though the maps are simple, it was good enough. The suggested route was good, but there too many stops to enjoy in one day. If I were to go on each of them, I dont think I would have had the time to relax and enjoy each visit. But at the same time, it was good that there were alot of choices, so we were able to pick and choose which ones we want to visit. And if we had more time the next day, we would hit the stops that we missed.

Trust Earl,

Take my word for it, trust Earl. Having lived in Germany off and on for 10 years, I know the country pretty well as a visitor and a resident. Earl will take you to places you actually want to experience, little out of the way delights, beautiful views, or slightly off the beaten path cultural stops - rather than checking off yet another world famous location you'll find on some tourist office's list. He'll fill you in on how to avoid crowds, scams, and overpriced trinkets. After using Michelin guides for years, I found Earl's advice and voice more in line with what I wanted to see as a tourist. I have four of Earl's books in this series and use(d) them diligently the last 15 years. I'm not into spending time at obvious tourist traps, but enjoy taking a nice walk through a part of town that's full of sites I'd never see at home. Along the way, with the help of these books, I have a nice lunch, a drink later in the day, and a lovely dinner. A perfect day. Build your own perfect memories and buy these books.
