Book Description

August 1, 2000
This documentary in print on the life and work of the eminent scientist-inventor, Dr. Lee DeForest (1873-1961) is the result of 25 years of extensive research, which reveals the facts of his vital accomplishments contrary to industrial history, previously written books, and recent film presentations which suppressed and demeaned his works. At last the public is told the true story of how in 1906 DeForest's invention of the electron tube amplifier changed the world, making possible long distant telephony, and amplified sound devices used today. Even DeForest's 1920 patent for sound-on-film recording is still in use in all modern sound films.

DeForest's neglect (previously) has not been done full justice. -- Kevin Brownlow, Producer, Thames Television

About the Author

Maurice H. Zouary has been an active producer and distributor of entertainment programs syndicated to the worldwide television market. Born in Brooklyn in 1921, Zouary attained honors from Brooklyn High School for Specialty Trades. He continued with Post-graduate studies at the New York School of Industrial Art and Design. At age 15, he was a skilled Sign Writer and Calligraphic Artist, becoming the youngest journeyman member of the local Sign Painters Union.

Coming from a family of performers, Zouary inherited a sense of showmanship, and movies became his main interest. As a result, he emersed himself with every phase of motion picture production, promotion, and distribution. In 1957, He founded Movietronics Corporation, which was one of the largest independently owned motion picture film libraries with footage dating back to 1898. Much of this material was licensed to major documentary producers such as CBS News and David Wolper.

Zouary is listed in Who's Who in America, Men Of Achievement, The International Motion Picture and Television Almanac, and The Film Daily Yearbook. He is a member of the Motion Picture Pioneers, The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, and a Life Member of The Radio Club of America.
