Part physical examination primer, part differential diagnosis tool, DeGowin's Diagnostic Examination takes you a step beyond elementary physical diagnosis.

DeGowin's covers all physical examination techniques and procedures, but this highly practical point-of-care guide goes further, focusing on the meaning of signs and symptoms. 5.0 out of 5 stars DeGowins is the end all be all of physical exam, March 27, 2009
This review is from: DeGowin's Diagnostic Examination, Ninth Edition (Paperback)
After using Jarvis and Bates in college, I happened to find a recommendation to use DeGowins instead. Degowins, despite its small size, packs a large punch compared to the usual fare. Its about the size of a nursing drug guide and can be easily stored away for clinical reference in your bag. It contains descriptions and drawn graphics of procedures and possible differential diagnosis for conditions. The index is thorough. Overall, its a great purchase for nursing and NP students.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential for any diagnostician, December 21, 2009
By
This review is from: DeGowin's Diagnostic Examination, Ninth Edition (Paperback)
I am a nurse practitioner who has used this book over the last ten years. I have found it to be essential in building my knowledge of differential diagnosis and clinical reasoning. It should be required reading for clinicians of any level and profession. The book's format is intuitive and clear. Clinical highlights are emphasized and written to facilitate easy memorizability. The newest edition provides a mobile download full-text reference.

This book was required for my physical assessment course, but after comparing it to Mosby's Physical Exam, I never opened it again. Mosby's provides more comprehensive information in an easier to read format.
