The things that I like are: the 'aroma' feature and the steel carafe instead of glass. The things I don't like: the narrow curved opening for the water tank, and the 2 holes in back of it that direct your poured water onto your kitchen wall, the tiny unlit clock, the filter basket that's a hassle to line up, and finally, as mentioned in another review... partially...

At this price level, most coffee makers are terrible. This Delonghi model seems to be one of the rare exceptions. I've had it for over a week now and I'm very pleased with it.

The Good:

-Well designed carafe. When you pour a cup of coffee, it doesn't spill everywhere like some makers I've used in the past. Additionally, it's proven easy to clean

-Fairly solid design. While not bullet proof, the maker as a whole seems sturdy, with one small exception (see below)

-The "Aroma" setting is AWESOME. I've owned many coffee makers in the past and it always takes quite a bit of grounds to brew a pot that's strong enough for me (I like my coffee almost espresso strength). Not with the Delonghi! just put in the grounds, pour in the water, hit "start", then hit the "aroma" button and in 15 minutes you've got yourself coffee that's (at least) twice as strong as coffee from a regular maker

The Bad:

There are only two problems I've had with this maker (and I must stress that they are very MINOR)

-When fully open, the tray for the filter does not quite clear the top of the maker. As a result, you have to tilt the filter and mess with it a bit to get it free of the machine. Additionally, the filter is sometimes a little tricky to get back in, but once you figure out the trick to it it's a bit easier

-The spring that holds the "pause and serve" lever in place seems cheap and looks like it would be easy to break (it hasn't broken yet, so this is just an assumption). This isn't a really big issue for me as I never use this feature, but I know that some people do. On the plus side, the spring is easily accessible, so if it ever did break or come loose, then it would probably be easy to put it back in or replace altogether

Despite these minor problems, the Delonghi coffee maker performs like a champ (indeed good enough to still earn a 5 star rating in my eyes). The good far outweighs the bad, and I'd recommend this maker to anyone who just wants a simple, well-made machine for a decent price.

This is a great coffee maker - my last one lasted over a year with heavy use. It makes good coffee and the auto shutoff is nice - good buy

5.0 out of 5 stars Great coffee, January 11, 2008
I had read a few not favorable reviews about this coffeemaker, but decided to buy it and try it anyway. I'm so glad I did. It makes great coffee and has all the bells and whistles I need. Plus it is not expensive! I like the option to have a slower drip for deeper coffee flavor. The carafe doesn't drip and I like the design of the maker and the carafe. I very much like that it comes with the gold filter and that it has the automatic start and shut-off functions. This machine makes much better coffee than any of the other drip machines I have owned. And I do love a good cup of coffee.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Coffee But......., July 18, 2008
I have had this coffee maker for approximately two months. It makes good cups of coffee and is reliable and easy to clean. However, it does have some problems.

The most serious problem is the design of the handle that allows the heat from the pot to come up at the point where the lid is hinged to the handle. There is no warning on the pot and there is no evidence of escaping steam to warn you about the danger at that point in the handle. As a result, the unknowing or distracted user can be easily burned.

The other issues I have listed below with this coffee maker are not dangerous - just annoying.

First, the digital display is not lighted and hard to see, which makes the machine hard to program.

Second the water level display is hard to read because of small print. Furthermore, the water level does not register until it has almost 5 cups of water and then rises very quickly on what seems like small amounts of water. However, if you fill the water chamber with fresh water from the pot, it is much easier and more controllable.

The coffee produced is good and the machine keeps its hot. If it were not for the problems listed above, I would give this coffee maker a 4.5 star rating.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best we've found so far, June 1, 2007
Well. we just got it.....we just made the first cup of coffee using the "aroma" button and the result is fantastic....

I have no idea how it will hold up...I knnow it's got some little quirks that I could nickpick about but the bottom line is....It makes a hell of a great cup of coffee and has the features that I need without a lot of extra nonsense.

So...if you want a great cup of coffee, go for this one. Isn't that what it's all about????

3.0 out of 5 stars Would be fine with a different carafe, March 10, 2009

The coffeemaker itself works fine and makes decent coffee, but the carafe drips when pouring, especially when full. The lid is also difficult to attach. I have tried six alternative carafes, none of which fit this model. It is inconvenient that the carafe should not be used in the diswasher, too (and, indeed, it doesn't fit in mine).

5.0 out of 5 stars ***Very Happy with This Coffee Maker***, January 23, 2008

I bought this coffee maker to replace a burned-out percolator. So I was at Target which was my last stop to find a percolator and they didn't have one. So I chose this DeLonghi model coffee maker. It was on sale, and it already came with its own gold filter basket. A coffee maker with its own gold filter basket was a real plus since the rest of the brands (Mr. Coffee, Black & Decker, etc.) made you buy this basket as an extra accessory.

Out of the box and cleaned, it was easy to use. The coffee maker is programmable, and once you've done it once, you'll remember to do it again. It's that easy.

The Aroma feature makes Folgers or Maxwell coffee taste more gourmet and stronger. Since the Aroma feature takes a longer time to brew, I use it when I program the coffee maker to go off in the morning. Make sure you program an extra ten minutes to brew when you use the Aroma feature. But if you're brewing Starbucks, Gevalia or another type of gourmet coffee, I would not use the Aroma feature.

One reviewer advised that the carafe would be hard to replace, so I contacted DeLonghi Customer Service via email. DeLonghi replied back, advising: "You can order your parts from Fox International Ltd., Inc. Fox is the Authorized National Distributor for Delonghi USA. You can call us Monday thru Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm ET at 1-800-322-3848." Although I do not need a carafe, I am saving this information for future reference.

The other complaints I've read above are common in ALL drip coffeemakers. The only type of coffee maker that does not leak or burn you in any way is a percolator. So yes, you have to be careful with a drip coffee maker; and, yes, you have to put in the parts in the coffeemaker just so it can work. I'm no rocket scientist, but I can easily work this machine and get excellent coffee.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Coffee but drop the pot and you are done!, May 23, 2006
I have this unit. It makes great coffee and the aroma feature slows the process but if i use the timer it is no problem and you get richer coffee!

My problem is the pot got broken and I cannot find a replacement - makes me wish I had a Mr. Coffee!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Saved my our new coffeemaker, November 27, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Our old Delonghi coffeemaker went out on us finally after seven years. Researched coffeemaker to determine the better ones to buy. Came back to Delonghi due to the ease of use and the fact it is made like our old one. My husband says it makes great coffee. Easy clean up etc. Highly recommend this one.
