4.0 out of 5 stars 2nd DeLonghi Convection Toaster Oven
This is the second DeLonghi convection toaster oven we have purchased and this one is as good as the first with the addition of digital displays, a beep for when the oven has preheated, a timer, and a special setting for using more than one baking sheet for things like cookies. I use this oven much more than my full sized range. The only thing I don't like about this...

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this DeLonghi oven
This oven is terrible. Mine lasted less than 4 months before the heating element on the top in the front melted, bowing down, so that you could easily burn your hand when taking something out of the oven. A terrible fire hazard, it finally stopped working before burning up, thankfully. DeLonghi customer service is incredibly unhelpful. Since this has happened to me, I've...

A terrible fire hazard, it finally stopped working before burning up, thankfully. DeLonghi customer service is incredibly unhelpful. Since this has happened to me, I've heard nothing but horrible things about other DeLonghi products. Heed my advice: stay away from DeLonghi, spend less money, and be safe!

I use this oven much more than my full sized range. The only thing I don't like about this model is the door handle on the left side - the old oven had it in the middle and I have not gotten used to the new location buit that is just me. I recommend this product highly.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good oven with some quirks, January 14, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: DeLonghi AD679 Airstream Digital Convection Toaster Oven/Broiler (Kitchen)
I have owned this oven (with the chrome finish instead of the white finish) for over a month now and am fairly happy with it. I replaced a 15+ year old GE (GE later sold their toaster oven division to Black and Decker) which still worked perfectly but was a bit unsightly.

Yes, toaster ovens do not make the best toast, but this oven makes it even harder to get consistent toast. The Toast setting always reverts back to T4 (medium) every time you select it. If you like dark or light toast, you must change the setting every time you use it! Also, being a large oven, it takes a long time to toast (at least when the oven is cold). Nor is there much granularity in the browness selection (only 7 settings).

I have no complaints with the Bake mode other than the strange way the timer sets itself to 59 minutes when you turn it on (why 59 minutes?).

In convection mode, the fan is occasionally noisy, but I have to use it more often to accurately report on that. The convection mode seems to dry out foods or burn them outside while the inside is undercooked. Perhaps this is due to my unfamiliarity with a convection oven.

Overall a decent machine and well built. The inside light stays on as long as any cooking mode is on (Toast, Bake, etc.) so you can watch the cooking progress. Also, unlike my old GE, the heating element does not turn off if the door is opened while the unit is in operation. I think this is true on all DeLonghi ovens and could be a safety issue with children.
But it could be a good thing as well since the oven will not cool down as much when the door is opened.

An optional food dehydrator tray is available by mail using the order form enclosed with the oven.

5.0 out of 5 stars love it, March 15, 2004

any comments for this item that include mention of knobs or knob problems are for another product. This oven has no knobs; just buttons.

We use it almost every day; we bake cookies, pot pies, oven fries, and make grilled cheese sandwiches without the extra fat from a frying pan.

The convection feature is why we bought the oven, and it makes oven baking go twice as fast for most things. We have had NO problems whatsoever with reliability: elements breaking, doors not fitting, etc.

Some appear to have had confusion over the controls. If you read the owner's manual, they are easy to understand. I have not used the cookie feature, but have found that convection cooking is not ideal for cookie batter. have to keep a close eye on the cookies. easier just to use regular oven and normal times. The fact that the oven comes with special cookie sheets is a plus: very convenient.

Oven surfaces are a breeze to clean up.

I just ordered a second one for another home.

We absolutely LOVE this product. It toasts like nothing I have ever seen before, and the convection oven has totally changed our lives. The only downside is that you are limited to their specific toast settings, so you don't always get to toast something in one shot until you figure out the system. Other than that, this thing is absolutely our favorite appliance in our entire kitchen.

5.0 out of 5 stars a great addition to your oven range, March 20, 2004
This review is from: DeLonghi AD679 Airstream Digital Convection Toaster Oven/Broiler (Kitchen)
Enjoying natural foods I v'e found this DeLonghi toaster convection oven to be a fine performer. I often prepare fresh-breaded zucchini strips and hand-breaded eggplant slices in this oven; they bake to a crisp exterior and moist interior preserving all the flavor and aroma. Fresh small game such as squirrel, rabbit and small fowl braise well in this oven and come out absolutely tender and delicious. Also the cookie sheets bake mushrooms, plain and stuffed, to an exquisite crispiness.

3.0 out of 5 stars I liked my older model better!, March 13, 2003

I'm not crazy about this model. Williams-Sonoma gave me this one when my old delonghi broke--actually it was the door--it wouldn't close which they said had happened to a few others. The cooking is ok but the digital controls drive me nuts--the clock is always needing to be reprogrammed. I don't know if we're hitting the clock button by mistake but it seems to be consistently the wrong time. I also have to watch the toast since the first one tends to burn.

For most purposes this little box has replace our large oven. As advertized it does cook faster and you need to lower the temp. about 25 degrees. Pies, turkeys, chickens, and Souffles I still do in the large oven but cookies, tarts, cornbread (8"x8"), casseroles, fish, burgers, and NY Strip all do very well in this Delonghi. Great for preparing hors d'oeuvres, esp. when you have guests and need a second oven.
The only odd thing is that it will randomly reset the clock to --:--

1.0 out of 5 stars Works great, breaks easily, March 8, 2005
This review is from: DeLonghi AD679 Airstream Digital Convection Toaster Oven/Broiler (Kitchen)
This is our second DeLonghi convection/toaster oven. The first one broke (I forget what happened) but we assumed it was a fluke, so I went and bought another one. These ovens work wonderfully - for as long as they DO work. However, my second one is now broken: the element is bent, and it is emitting a bad electrical smell. Frankly, having read that other reviewers say that the elements bent on their ovens, too, I must assume that this is in intrinsic flaw in these ovens, and I will NOT be buying another DeLonghi. Time to research other models, since I do love the convenience of a countertop oven.

5.0 out of 5 stars amazing convection toaster oven, March 28, 2004

we saw this advertised at Amazon and my aunt decided to purchase it. First we did a pizza (15"), it baked with a finely crisp crust and moist pepperoni and sausage. Nothing was burned. Next day we made 5 dozens of sugar cookies on the supplied sheets. The cookies were sublime, chewy and soft. Later, using the convection setting, we prepared stuffed pork chops, again moist interior and nicely browned exterior. Toasted cheese sandwiches are a breeze with this unit. We now make our own 6" diameter fruit pies (blueberry, rhubarb, apricot)in this oven and each time they come out with perfect crust and delectable filling. Chinese noodles also toast well in this DeLonghi product. Note that we make our toast in a conventional toaster.
