The Airstream oven was purchased because of the following reasons: (1) DeLonghi reputation, (2) Large capacity--can toast six slices, (3)this oven has 2 baking racks--double the baking capacity of my old oven, (4) quiet convection fan for more efficient baking, and (5) Amazon had the best price.

Other kitchen product websites and stores were selling the Airstream oven for about $159, while Amazon's price was ....

I've been through several brands and styles of toaster ovens over the years. This one is hands down one of the best I've used. It bakes/broils well and fast - *and* makes great toast (first round of toast takes a little longer - need to adjust lightness down the second time around after the oven warms up). It doesn't take up a whole lot of counter space, but I can put a 10 1/2 inch round pan in it - something I could never fit in any other toaster oven. It stays cool, has a removeable crumb tray and 2 racks. You can also defrost and dehydrate food in it, though I haven't used those features. Only drawback I could find was that the cord is on the short side for this type of appliance.

I can't really comment on longevity since I haven't had it that long, but it so far has lasted longer than the Faberware that burst into flames. I hope it does last forever, though, because as toaster ovens go, this one is as close to perfect as you can get.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice toaster oven, March 20, 2001

I recently received this toaster oven and here's what I have to report:

The toaster oven's fit and finish are fairly nice; however, the weak, wobbly plastic legs are a strange addition to this otherwise nice toaster oven.

The cord is a little short, and the glass window gets very hot, but the dials are easy to use and intuitive.

I found the manual to be a little difficult to follow (maybe since the toaster oven can do so much (toast, broil, bake with the convection fan, bake conventionally, warm, defrost, and dehydrate)) so if you plan on using your convection oven for all that it can perform, then be prepared to carefully read the manual several times.

There is an oven light that can be used to determine when the toaster oven has pre-heated (it goes out), which is a nice feature.

So far I have tested only how well the toaster oven toasts and I am happy to say that all toast has come out perfectly! In fact, I have owned several highly-rated Black and Decker toaster ovens as well as stand-alone toasters, and there is no question that the DeLonghi toasts the best (I believe it uses the convection fan, which helps to produce perfectly, consistently toasted bread).

You should be very happy with this toaster oven.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Toast to the DeLonghi, March 16, 2001
This review is from: DeLonghi AS670 AirStream Convection Toaster Oven, White (Kitchen)
There are some pluses and minuses to the DeLonghi toaster oven/convection oven. Overall, it's pretty impressive.

Plus Side: Lots of toast. Six slice capacity is great for sandwich making, brunch production or two people who eat toast (more than two slices.) It makes good, even toast, too, Big, fat bagels and English muffins fit nicely into it, as do weird size slices of homemade round loaf bread. Convection. This is a great, fast way to cook and it keeps the kitchen cooler in the summer than a big oven.

Minus Side: It takes several interactions with the dials to make a simple piece of toast. (Not just pop in, push lever.) Our hinge on the door swells when heated up and the door won't close exactly. But the warranty is still on...

Overall, pretty fine oven!

We bought a Delonghi 670 and used it for about a year. During this time the on/off swith failed and was not covered under warranty. We replaced it at our cost. But the BIG PROBLEM occurred when the front glass door spontaneously shattered and showered the kitchen with fragments of glass! The Delonghi representative said this was not covered by any warranty, implied or expressed. I can't imagine buying another Delonghi oven.

This is an A+ product! I purchased this toaster oven for my husbands first father's day, and was it ever a good choice. We were looking to replace out Krups ProChef Plus which we had for about 2 years (the Krups Toaster did not hold up well to daily use - hard to keep clean, dials stopped working). The DeLonghi not only has wonderful features, such as defrost and dehydration settings, but it is very easy to keep clean. Crumbs don't hide themselves around the dials, the surface is easily cleaned, even with cooked on food. We are very happy with this product and will continue to purchase DeLonghi products.

1.0 out of 5 stars DONT BUY THIS PRODUCT! I had TWO fall apart!, February 7, 2002
This review is from: DeLonghi AS670 AirStream Convection Toaster Oven, White (Kitchen)
I too have had a horror experience with the Delonghi oven. The original one I received had the bottom knob broken off when I pulled it out of the box. The box was undamaged and all of the foam packing was intact but the knob ( which has a plastic stem!!)fell right off as soon as I pulled the oven out of the packing. I returned it and was sent a replacement. I used it about 9 times and the same bottom knob came off in my hand when I was trying to set it for Air bake. I offered to pay for an upgrade to a digital oven ( which has no knobs to break) and Delonghi refuses. They will only repair it ( with the SAME knob that breaks right off after a few uses....Folks, this knob has a flimsy plastic stem and once it breaks , the oven is useless because you cant set the oven function.....so I see myself either tossing this oven in the trash and losing the hundred bucks it cost or spending the next year returning it to the repair place to replace the knob every 2 weeks until the year warranty is up...then I will toss it and be out the money.....Either way, this oven is more trouble than it's worth! ) ...
The door on the oven also warped and in order to get it to close, I have to fiddle it back and forth ...( Mind you, this oven is less than a couple of weeks old and has BARELY been used!) ...and it takes 3 functions to make toast! ( Plus you have to set a timer to make toast and it cant be shut off if the toast is ready before the timer is finished.)
I DEFINITELY would recommend NOT buying this product! It is shoddily made.

control knobs broke off inside the toaster after less than 6 months of light use rendering it unusable. delonghi has the rudest, most ineffective customer service i have ever encountered. the oven has been out for repairs for 8 weeks now and they still won't give me an estimate of when it will be returned, nor will they replace it.....and they are not even polite about it. i will never buy a delonghi product again.

5.0 out of 5 stars If I could only have 2 appliances in my kitchen . . ., April 10, 2002

This review is from: DeLonghi AS670 AirStream Convection Toaster Oven, White (Kitchen)
This would be one of them!

The convection/toaster oven/broiler is efficient, compact and is my favorite appliance! It does a good job in all its functions! It's well made with quality materials ~ I've had it for 5 years and used it almost daily! I wouldn't be without it! I'd just like it to be a little bigger so that I could cook the potatoes, bake the bread AND broil the steak/chops or fish all at the same time!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little oven for the price, October 23, 2001

I always wanted a convection oven but didn't have the room to install one permanently. I am very pleased with this oven because it doesn't heat up your entire kitchen when you need to cook something something small. I love the fact that it is so versatile. It is great for cooking and warming up small food items. The convection is especially wonderful when heating up french breads or rolls - gets the outside crispy. Also works as a toaster.. Does an excellent job on pork tenderloin.....The only caution, is the unit does get a little warm on the outside so you need to be careful where you place it. Great value
