4.0 out of 5 stars I was surprised to see all the negative reviews
I've had my machine for about a year and have had no problems. It is one of the most complicated coffee makers to use though and you must READ THE MANUAL. The clock problem everyone talks about is not a problem but is in the design. There is a function that counts the number of pots of coffee you make and doesn't let you make any more after 200 pots without resetting...

1.0 out of 5 stars The warranty is inadequate!
I have owned a caffe figaro machine for about 2 months and used it almost daily. I have owned a caffe figaro machine for about 2 months and used it almost daily. Although it has operated well and makes good coffee and cappucino type drinks, I do find the milk tank and parts must be cleaned immediately after use, and the area where the milk tank fits must also be cleaned well since some milk tends to trickle down there and sour if not cleaned soon after use. More seriously, today the milk emulsifier broke - this is a red plastic part which clips into the milk tank. I called a nearby service center, listed in the service center guide provided with the machine. The clerk there told me that the red plastic milk emulsifier part is not covered by the warranty because it is considered an accessory....Canadian. This is ridiculous, because this is a necessary part in order to make foamed milk for cappucino. It is not an optional part. I also do not plan on buying such an... "accessory" every two months. I am pursuing this issue with the toll-free number on the service center guide, but so far have encountered only voice mail.
I do want to emphasize that I did not handle this piece roughly at all - only removed it as per the instructions, to clean after each use.

1.0 out of 5 stars Delonghi BCO110, December 29, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: DeLonghi BCO110 Caffe Figaro Espresso, Cappuccino, and Coffee Bar (Kitchen)
I purchased this product for Christmas. The machine was delivered with a broken Carafe. There was no support from Delonghi after three e-mails and two phone calls. I ended up purchasing a new carafe from a local repair center. Their remarks were parts are not easy to obtain. The milk frother does not deliver at 160 deg F. Foaming was little using 1% and 2% milk. Cleaning was not easy. The coffee side of the machine could be compared to any other Mr. Coffee machine. I have returned the machine and purchased a Capresso 351 with great satisfaction.

1.0 out of 5 stars Brain damaged DeLonghi, March 3, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: DeLonghi BCO110 Caffe Figaro Espresso, Cappuccino, and Coffee Bar (Kitchen)
I bought this machine at the Amazon as a Christmas gift to my husband. It broke down immediately - the clock and timer went dead after the very first espresso cup was made. The machine's electronic "brain" never recovered, even after sitting at the repair shop for over 5 weeks. Now the machine, if plugged in, turns on when it wishes - at first touch to the jar, or to the filter compartment door, or even to the sound of our coffee grinder (that's not a joke! is there a sound sensor somewhere?). Once the machine is on, the only way to stop it is to unplug. The clock lives its own life - it sometimes stops, or the digits start blinking or disappear altogether with no apparent reason. And so on, not to mention some design flaws and counter-intuitive controls.

There is only one repair shop within 15 miles from where I live, and it only operates till 6PM (I cannot make it before 6PM from work). DeLonghi customer service is completely unhelpful and unfriendly. I can not even return the machine back to Amazon because the 30-day return period expired while our coffee machine had been at the repair shop waiting for the spare parts to arrive from DeLonghi.

1.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Italian design but under standarized materials..., September 28, 2002

I own one of this machines for a year. The cappuccino's milk acrylic tank do not supports the high temperatures that must be reached in order to frog the milk in a cutting-edge stream of steam technology. The acrylic tank -espontaneously- begin to crack in a nice surrealistic pattern in less than a couple of months (or about 20 times of use) and the sylicone packings begin to drift around the cylinders, spraying the steam in other directions than in the tank circuit pipes. I found a cloging problem too, maybe due to the water's hardness.

Also, the thermostat included in the coffee-maker side do not regulates wisely the temperature. If you let the coffee-maker auto-regulate the temperature for more than 15 minutes after dripped, you are in risk to drink a cooked "sour coffee".

I'm a costarican coffee taster and prefer the german home models of cappuccino machines and coffee-makers (Krups, Braun). Nevertheless, the italians has the glory in developing these technologies, by now we only can enjoy this great tastes in commercial not-for-home-users coffee machines.

I has read the other writers point of view about this coffee machine and I respect their opinion, but that was not my experience with Delonghi coffee machines. Maybe mine was made on a Monday!!

The clock problem everyone talks about is not a problem but is in the design. There is a function that counts the number of pots of coffee you make and doesn't let you make any more after 200 pots without resetting the counter. This has to be set out of the box. I think you hold the on and prog buttons down together for about 5 seconds to reset it.

Mine seems to make the coffee fine and i don't use the espresso that often but I've used it a half dozen times with no problems.

I don't like my coffee that hot so its fine for me. No coffee maker has ever satisfied my wife though and that's the same for this one.

I am looking for a replacement filter which should be replaced annually and that's how I ended up here. Anybody know where to find one. We have quite hard water and the charcoal filter was why I bought this unit. The coffee taste a lot better that my previous maker that did not have one.

2.0 out of 5 stars good for very short time, December 28, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: DeLonghi BCO110 Caffe Figaro Espresso, Cappuccino, and Coffee Bar (Kitchen)
This machine makes good coffee, worst espresso but milk frother can be used for short time only. My broke after 3 months and now I am looking for spare part which isn't simple. Also this machine has timer which needs to be set every time you unplug it (could be for a few seconds only). Milk tank is difficult to keep clean because of its complicated shape.

4.0 out of 5 stars Coffee afficionado, September 18, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: DeLonghi BCO110 Caffe Figaro Espresso, Cappuccino, and Coffee Bar (Kitchen)
I have owned this coffee machine for one year now, and choose to make my own coffee in the morning verses patronizing the nearest Starbucks. The programmable feature is easy to use. Being a coffee afficianado, I realize the best way to brew coffee is with a french press, which I do on the weekends when I have the time. I have owned a Mr. Coffee, and the two newest Krups aroma line (top shelf), and would have to say, that I am happiest with this one. The milk frother has made cafe quality foam for my latte consistently verses the Krups brand, which made foam watery on some occasions. You can take apart the apparatus where the milk is supposed to go, the espresso container, as well as the where the water goes so you can virtually clean the entire machine!!
What I like best is that you control the flavor of the coffee with the accuflavor switch, the consistent latte foam, and the light that goes on and off , signalling when to change the water filter.

What it could improve on is that if you prefer your coffee on the weak side, then you will find that some of your coffee grounds are dry when you open the filter to clean the grounds out. If you prefer it on the stronger side, such as myself, then you will be fine.

I have used this machine 5 days a week for a year, in entertaining parties, and having get togethers, making 2-10 cups of coffee and have had someone comment on the great coffee. Great beans and a great coffee maker go hand in hand. Definitely worth the money!!!!

I bought this machine at Christmas and have had nothing but problems with it. I had to exchange it for a new one because the heater tank and frother wasn't working properly, the coffee was barely warm and the second one had the EXACT same problems. I talked to a dealer at HBC and she informed me MANY of these machines have been returned for the same reason. Delonghi customer service was of absolutely no help and was not interested to know about the problems with this product. I have returned the second machine to the dealer and will probably never by Delonghi products again, regardless of any customer rating.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply great coffee/lattes for 6 years!, July 8, 2005

Just Joy "JB" (Northfield, NJ USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: DeLonghi BCO110 Caffe Figaro Espresso, Cappuccino, and Coffee Bar (Kitchen)
I originally did my research on coffee makers & espresso machines for 2 months and decided on this particular machine. I liked the idea of saving counter space with a 2 in 1 combo. I requested the Figaro for my birthday approximately 6 years ago (was also irritated at the prices Starbucks charges as another reviewer stated). Six years I have had this machine and the only minimal drawback has been that the clock loses about 1 minute every other day... SO WHAT!!! I simply check the time every week or so if I'm setting the programmer (which is rather simple to do). I don't know why there are so many negative comments. I haven't had ANY problems. Maybe the water leaking is because they're missing the water basket which is removable & washable. The frother couldn't be easier to use! Just pour skim milk (which should be the ONLY type of milk for cappuccino & lattes)in the frothing basket, wait for the ready light to come on, turn the knob & frothed milk goes directly into your espresso. Another reviewer was correct... ALWAYS rinse the milk basket shortly after you're through using it & you'll never have a problem (I accidentally left it overnight and the smell wasn't pretty, but still fairly easy to clean).

I got onto this site because I've had this machine for so long that I figured I'd better purchase another glass pot to keep in the attic as a spare. I don't want to be without coffee from this wonderful machine even one day!! By the way, I found NO problem finding an extra pot for it.

I bought this machine about 2 monthes ago. I use it daily, I love being able to set the timer and have hot ,fresh ,strong coffee ready for me when I get up! I have experienced on a couple of different occasions that there was water that had dripped out all over the counter, but still made coffee, Im not to sure what happened? I have also found that the espresso part of the machine does not brew the coffee as strong as I would like it, regardless of the type of espresso coffee I use. I use skim milk in the frother part and have experienced hot frothy milk, and I havent found it difficult to clean as long as you do it shortly after use. Over all Im pretty happy with the machine but may have expected more for the money!
