4.0 out of 5 stars convenient and well-priced
I was surprised at how well the coffee/espresso/cappucino machine worked, considering its relatively low price. Drip-stop is great when you're in a rush for your first cup of joe. The machine is easy to clean with the dishwasher-safe parts. The milk frother has tremendous capacity too. I definitely recommend this one.

OK. For those who don't want to get burned, all this is is a regular coffee maker with a milk frother. "American Style Cappucino" is perhaps one of the most misleading things I've heard since someone said they had a "little" problem at Enron. It makes American style drip coffee and steams milk.
IF YOU WANT A CAPPUCINO MAKER DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best I've had, April 18, 2001
By A Customer

I am so pleased with my purchase of this coffee maker. I spent weeks shopping. I originally ended up with the Capresso 12-cup drip maker as well as their burr grinder. I was dissatisfied with both. The coffee maker's drip stop did not work. The water got clogged in the filter basket. It was as if the filter plugged up. I tried a very course grind as well as paper filters. It still happened. The burr grinder was an absolute waste of time. I was attracted to the Delongi machine when a friend told me she was pleased with hers. The gold filter and the filter basket are great in terms of their quality (in comparrison to the Capresso) and the drip stop works everytime. In addition, the milk steamer is wonderful! By the way, the coffee quality is superb. I use 2 tablespoons per every 6-oz of grounds. I went back to my Krups grinder. What a breeze!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Coffee/Cappuccino Maker!, March 2, 2001

I confess that I had some second thoughts before my machine arrived--wondering whether I had made a mistake by not ordering a machine which included an espresso maker. (I love a strong, espresso-based cappuccino.) I was absolutely amazed with my first cappuccino--I honestly could not tell that it was coffee-based! I used my favorite dark roast, brewed the recommended one scoop per 6 ounce cup of water, and the result was as hearty a cappuccino as I've ever had! My carafe pours perfectly, and while a little more room under the frother would be nice, I have no trouble dispensing frothed milk directly into a 4-inch high mug. (I do not use the extra splash guard for the end of the frother, and I leave a little room at the top of my mug so I can tilt it a very slight amount as I take it out from under the frother.) I've had no trouble with the milk splashing, but I do use two-percent which probably doesn't froth as much. My only real complaint was with the instructions, not the machine. I had some questions that were not answered anywhere, and the instructions for cleaning the machine prior to first use were poorly located at the end rather than the beginning of the booklet (under a "warning" section). I looked through the entire instructions twice without locating them. This machine does not have the auto timer mentioned by one reviewer--apparently their machine is the CC100 model, which is basically the same machine with some extra electronics. If you are considering this machine, you may find the reviews on the CC100 helpful as well. While I'm having a little trouble adjusting to the size of this machine after several years of using a tiny 4-cup coffee maker, I'm looking forward to enjoying many cups of great cappuccino with it! Definitely a great product!

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect coffee pot!, June 16, 2001

Finally our search for the perfect coffee maker is over. This coffee pot makes the most wonderful coffee. It has a filter inside that filter's out any chemical taste in the water you use to brew your coffee. It comes with a permanent metallic filter for your ground coffee -- you can use paper if you prefer since the metal basket lifts right out. The milk steaming apparatus is easy to use. We have had this pot for a few weeks now and have never had a bad cup of coffee when using it. It's a wonderful pot! We are happy we bought it and if you buy one you'll be happy too!

4.0 out of 5 stars Amazingly good coffee and hot milk but no espresso, October 31, 2003
This review is from: DeLonghi CC80 Deluxe Coffee Cappuccino Machine (Kitchen)
Make sure you understand that this coffeemaker does NOT make espresso. The "Cappuccino" means hot milk, the way many people make for breakfast coffee in, say Quebec or Brazil.

If you like brewed coffee, this makes some of the best I've had. I am not sure why, but the design of the lid over the filter captures the aroma and I never get a bad cup. There is a built-in water filter and a gold mesh filter comes with.

To make the hot milk, you fill the espresso-like tank with water, allow it to come to temperture and fill the reservoir in front with milk. Put a pitcher underneath and open the valve on the side. Hot milk froths into the pitcher, ready for your porcelain bowl of cafe-au-lait. But then you MUST take the little plastic insert out and soak it or you have dried milk clogging the suction tube.

My first unit had a defective heater on the milk side, so I exchanged it. The new one has worked flawlessly for two years. The filters are hard to obtain; we just decommissioned the water filter and use pre-filtered water instead. And don't wash the gold filter in the dishwasher or the ionic action of the detergent and other metals will strip off the gold.

If you want hot milk for cocoa or cafe-au-lait, and a great brewed cup, this is superb. For espresso, you have to look elsewhere.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous machine, February 6, 2001

I love this coffee maker/cappuccino maker. The milk is frothed PERFECTLY each time. The auto timer is fantastic and the cleanup is easy. Only thing that needs fixing is possibly more room for the cup (I drink large cups of cappuccinos) so that the milk doesn't fly everywhere. OTHER THAN THAT, IT'S A PREMIUM PRODUCT !!

That being said, it makes a good cup of American style coffee but nothing spectacular. But the name and advertising are very misleading. If I was evaluating a [...] coffee maker it would probably get 4 stars, but since I paid [...] -- on sale -- for a cappucino maker, I deducted two stars for being ripped off.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great coffee -- poor durability, February 10, 2003

I admit that I really love this machine. It makes great coffee and does a terrific job of frothing the milk. And who can beat the price? If you are thinking of purchasing the machine, however, you should know that getting replacement parts (which you will inevitably need) is very expensive. The frother itself breaks after a few months (I froth two tanks of milk a day). In order to replace this, you will have to purchase the entire milk tank, steam tubing, and frother. Mine has broken twice in the space of 12 months. In addition, I broke my carafe and found that it cost $...(plus shipping) to replace (the prices on the price list included with the product were out of date). Paying over a third of the purchase price to replace the carafe was a little much. Having said all this, there probably isn't a better value on the market for the price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Steamer, May 29, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: DeLonghi CC80 Deluxe Coffee Cappuccino Machine (Kitchen)
This is a great Coffee/Cappuccino machine except for two problems. 1)No auto-shut off. This is a saftey feature many of us have come to depend on at times. 2) Replacement filters for the water filter are almost impossible to find.

However the milk steamer more than makes up for it.

We have had this cappuccino machine for a few weeks now and have absolutely no complaints. My whole family loves it, whether we brew coffee, make cappuccino, or just have mugfulls of flavored frothed milk, everything tastes great.

The machine is easy to operate, even my teens like to use it. Clean up is quick and easy.
