Bought this machine because of the convection feature, and used our current machine (Zojirushi Mini) as well as a borrowed machine (Zojirushi Home Bakery Supreme) to make the same loaf of oatmeal bread in all three machines. Four members of my family, and three from neighbor family were the taste testers of the final three loaves. Verdict: the DeLonghi loaf was the most beautiful, cooking up to a warm golden brown all around, with a crunchy (too crunchy?) crust. As expected, both Zojirushi loaves were lighter on top (the reason I've been looking for a different machine) and less pleasing to look at. But, interestingly, all of the taste testers preferred the taste of the Zojirushi Supreme loaf, finding it more subtle, and the crumb more even. The Zoji Mini was the runner up, for similar reasons, but was slightly more yeasty. Nobody liked the taste of the DeLonghi bread, which was almost like a quick bread by comparison. I am the only member of the group with the background information about which bread machine is "supposed" to be best, and all agreed that in addition to the good looking loaf, the DeLonghi was the best looking machine. But in the end, we eat the bread more than we look at it, and that's what decided us. It was incredibly noisy during the knead cycle, which would not have been a deal breaker if the bread itself were better. At GREAT expense, I sent the DeLonghi back to the other store I bought it from. I hate to knock it, since it's so beloved by everyone here, but it really didn't win us over.

Ok, I just got this bread machine this morning and I have a lot of positive things to say but first a couple of minor details. The recipe book that comes with it gives the measurements for the flour in weight. Not everyone has a kitchen scale so it would be nice if it had both weight and cup measurement. Second item... it has 15 programs and they aren't listed on the machine. There is an awkward little book thing that's attached to the handle by a chain, NOT very functional. It would make much more sense to have the program settings listed on the front of the machine. Third, the "additions" is not an option you can select or unselect. The machine WILL beep in a very annoying way when you get to that section of the cycle. This is annoying because I only add things to certain breads and not the ones I made on a regular basis. I would like an option to turn it off (it beeps four times, pauses, beeps four time and does this cycle four times). On an up note you will not miss hearing it if you're any where within 50 feet lol.

Now, the good things! This machine really does get the corners. I was pleasantly surprised to go check on it and there wasn't a speck of flour in the corners of the pan. I LOVE the light so I can see the inside of the pan without wondering what the shadows are hiding. The smooth top is really nice because I'll be able to stack stuff on top of it if need be lol. The controls are easy to use even if I prefer words to pictures. It's intuitive enough that I could figure things out without reading the manual. I made Buttermilk Whole Wheat bread for my first try since wheat bread can be hard on the machine. I used the whole wheat setting to make a two pound loaf. I am VERY happy with the way it came out. The motor didn't strain and the crumb of the loaf is even.

I bought the same model from Sur La Table and it cost me $50 more after tax. I knowingly was lazy when making my first loaf and used the included measuring cup to measure the flour (yes, I do know it's for liquids only - Why'd I do it? Because I'm a guy I suppose). The resulting bread was flat, dense, and not very good. Fast forward to the 2nd loaf. This time I measured the same amount of flour in the same included measuring cup. I wanted to weight it out and see just how far off I was on my flour amount. What I measured as 21 oz. with the liquid measuring cup came out on my digital OXO weight scale as only 14 & 1/4 oz. I knew it would be off, but wow - didn't expect it to be 7 ounces off! That's a lot of flour I missed out on and completely explains why the bread was so flat and dense. Now I added in the additional 7 ounces of flour (by weight, on the scale). Added the weighed out flour and the rest of the ingredients to the pan. 3:15 later and I had absolutely perfect fluffy white basic bread. The taste is phenomenal.

No more preservative laden bread in my family!

The one year update. Actually, it has been a bit more than a year. I have used my bread machine once or twice a week, EVERY single week, since I purchased it. I still love it. I put added fiber into all of my breads. And just because I am home and can do it, I take the dough out after the last punch down, remove the kneader bar, shape the loaf, and then put it back in to rise and bake. I pretty much get perfect bread every time.

Further updates: I have written additional updates, but they have not appeared here. Maybe my review has turned into too much of a blog....
Anyway, for initial impressions of the bread machine, skip the updates and start reading further down. But I will try one more time to add an update.

Update 4: I have made raisen bread, light rye bread, and buckwheat/walnut bread. They have all been spectacular. The slide-on compartment (I forget what it is called) where you can add your raisens or nuts or whatever)...works like a charm. I do check the dough during the initial kneading to see if I have to add liquid or flour. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. And I do take out the dough after the last beat down, take out the paddle, then form the dough nicely for the final rise and baking. I can do this because I am home, and can keep track of the timing of the cycles.

Update 3: Today I made the white bread (egg enhanced), which is the first recipe in the book. I made the 1.5 lb. loaf, medium crust (see pictures.) After measuring the flour by weight, I also added 6 T of fiber...I like adding fiber to baked goods, and especially white bread.
