Tired of scorched coffee?,

I was! You know when you just cannot get to the freshly brewed coffee right now and the heat plate makes the coffee taste awful? This coffee maker ended that for us. I love all the options on this unit; permamenet grounds filter (no more paper filters), charcoal water filter, timer and carafe. Also the opening for the water is large. You can't miss even if you just woke up!

JUST READ YOUR DIRECTIONS! AWESOME COFFEE MAKER!,
By roxygirl "rgirl" (Wheatland, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: DeLonghi Coffeemakers with Timer (Kitchen)
Ok first off I am so MAD that this awesome coffee maker has gotten such bad reviews. After reading the reviews and using this coffee maker myself I have come to realize that those who have had problems just don't READ THE DIRECTIONS PROPERLY!! YES THERE ARE LEMONS OUT THERE, BUT NOT AS MANY AS HAVE BEEN REVIEWED ON THIS PAGE,(NO OFFENSE INTENDED!!) I CAN'T IMAGINE THERE ARE THAT MANY BAD ONES OUT THERE! I think some may be buying this product off Ebay without directions as I did but found the web site and copied off all directions and had NO problem with it working perfectly! First off a Thermal Carafe is not made to place back under the coffee maker after the coffee is brewed. Think about it, when the coffee is brewing the lid is shut tight, but there are holes in the top lid that allow the coffee to drip through, if you take it out poor your coffee and place it back under those openings will be open like it's ready to brew again therefore all the heat escapes!!! Not too tough to understand, just watch your coffee as it is brewing then you will understand what I am trying to say. Once the coffee is done you take the thermos out and close it, that will keep the coffee hot for hours, DO NOT PLACE BACK UNDER AS HEAT WILL ESCAPE. I am not sure that people understand the point of a Thermal Carafe. It is a thermos!! If you close the lid all the way when it's brewing, you will NEVER have coffee overflow. Also when pouring your coffee, just make sure you set it to the arrow on the lid, WALA, NO LEAKING, really quite simple when you follow manufactures directions. I cant understand what people are talking about when they say the filter leaks if it is not in right. THERE IS ONLY ONE WAY IT WIL GO IN it's cone shaped, I can't get it to go in wrong, I tried and it's a perfect fit, so I don't understand what the heck people are saying when they say the filter has to be in right, there is only one way??!! This coffee maker is sooooooo darn quite you can't even hear you are making coffee until the very end when it's done. The slow drip feature makes the most wonderfully brewed coffee I have ever tasted, just be prepared that when it's on this setting the coffee takes a little more time to brew! I simply love this coffee maker and I have been through MANY coffee makers. This one by far out shines the rest! Please don't be fooled by others opinions of this coffee maker because the thing ROCKS! I sure hope this helps someone re~think their choice to purchase one of the best coffee makers on the market! I love Delonghi products as they make some of the best products on the market today!

Best AutoDrip Coffee Maker I've Found,

Contrary to what I read in other reviews I feel the carafe does an excellent job of keeping the coffee piping hot. I get two hours plus of very hot coffee as long as I close the top after each pour. What is truly worth the price of purchase is the quality of the brew with the "aroma brew" option. This undoubtedly is the best brewed coffee from a drip maker on the market. Love this coffee maker!

I guess since there is some debate on this maker, I will list a few complaints. Yes, I read the directions. Where do I start. Try to open the coffee basket. It has a one millimeter ridge and it takes about 10lbs. of pull to open it. So, you have to grab it with your nail and brace the machine with your other hand and then pull your nail off. Ok, its open. You can't use this with a paper filter because the design causes it to plug up and spill over. I don't like coffee from the gold filter, so suggestion on the net is to use both. Yes, you have to put the gold filter in and then try to jam the paper inside of it. So, yes, you can prewarm that carafe and that is special, but there are lots that have that feature. Next, if you put the carafe in the exact cradle for it, the coffee won't come out of the basket and will overflow the basket. You have to jam (lots of jamming here) the carafe up against the back of the maker so that it is out of the cradle and sitting at an angle. Then, I hope that you weren't going anywhere soon cause you ain't now. Just keep waiting. In summary, it sucks big time.

Love the look of this coffeemaker. That's where it ends. I was a huge fan of DeLonghi products and was excited to use this coffeemaker. Same problems as most everyone else as far as overflow, coffeegrinds in the cup, lukewarm coffee, etc. We finally took the flow valve out so now it all flows into the carafe but no longer have pause n service feature and the coffee is still luke warm. We read the instruction booklet many, many times thinking we were missing something as well as going step by step. But to no avail.I wrote to DeLonghi and they told me to send them the plug and a check for $5 for S&H. I did, received another that was worse. That is when we put another plug onto the original and took out that flow nipple thing. I then sent another e-mail to DeLonghi asking them if they had really used the coffeemaker and also letting them know what we had to do to get it to work. That was 2 months ago...still no response from them. Quite a disappointment from a company that I thought made quality products...a rareity for today.

Superior pain in the rear,
By
This review is from: DeLonghi Coffeemakers with Timer (Kitchen)
Yeah, it makes decent coffee. But convenience and functionality, it falls flat.We use the timer function and about 1 out of every 3 mornings I wake up to the coffee pot 1/3 of the way full, yet the pot has been made. Why? Because the pot is extremely difficult to place correctly so that the coffee drips properly into the caraffe. If it is 1 millimeter off then the pot doesn't recognize the caraffe being there, turns off the drip and goes ahead and makes the coffee. What happens then? A big mess. The basket overflows with coffee, which luckily for the most part drips down the side and into the caraffe (along with grinds). The rest of the coffee stays in the basket until you readjust the caraffe... and by then the coffee is cold anyways, defeating the purpose of the caraffe. BTW, Consumer Reports ranks this pot #24 out of 25 pots for a reason. Just wish they would have rated it before I bought it.

Automatic- with a few twists,
By
This review is from: DeLonghi Coffeemakers with Timer (Kitchen)
I agree with two of the other fine reviewers- my pot works quite well in auto making and, well, since we drink it so fast it never gets cold in the thermal pot. We switched from a super Black and Decker thermal, which kept it hot all day, BTW, to this b/c I needed a break in my morning routine and wanted the auto timer/maker function. Super taste and smell with the aroma button! It DOES have a twitchy grounds insert, we have flooded more times than not, but after reading these other reviews, I will place grounds cup carefully. Short version is you pick your battles. Want it scorching hot all day? Black and Decker. Want it made when you get up? DeLonghi. I'm a happy camper either way!!!

Doesn't Keep Coffee Hot,
By
This review is from: DeLonghi Coffeemakers with Timer (Kitchen)
I've tired of the hastle each morning making perk coffee then transfering it into the thermal carafe that keeps it hot almost all day. I got the DeLonghi for Christmas but on the first morning used, the coffee was warm within just one hour. My husband and I often wake up at very different hours of the morning, this maker will just not work!

This one's a leaker,

This coffee maker is very attractive, but we experienced some problems. The first time we used it, the filter basket didn't fit properly in the holder which caused it to overflow and it leaked all over. We had to remove the basket and dump over 2 cups of coffee. The warmer plate was not warm and the machine turned itself off after each brew cycle. Coffee did not stay hot for an hour in the decanter. Continued to leak and I returned the item.
