This review is from: DeLonghi DCM900 10-Cup Coffee Maker (Kitchen)
I had this coffee maker less than three months when it just stopped brewing in the middle of a brewing cycle. I immediately called customer support and spoke with Erica. She was very pleasant and offered several suggestions, including de-scaling the machine. She told me to call her back regardless of the results. None of her suggestions succeeded, including de-scaling, which proved to be impossible since the DeLonghi wouldn't brew anyway. And if the coffee maker did need de-scaling, its built-in de-scaling warning light never went on. In any case, I had a mess on my hands and called DeLonghi customer service back. This time I reached Amanda, who couldn't have been nastier and wouldn't or couldn't allow me to speak to Erica. I asked to speak to her supervisor, Josh, who was extremely condescending and unhelpful. Unfortunately, it was then that I decided to do my research, not before. It turned out there were numerous complaints registered with the Better Business Bureau concerning DeLonghi, several of which DeLonghi simply didn't respond to. DeLonghi's policy required ME to pay to ship their product to a service facility in Delaware for them to decide what to do with the machine. This is a very expensive coffee maker that has virtually no special features to warrant such a price tag. I am sorry I didn't do my research before I bought such a terrible product with awful customer support. Be warned before you repeat my mistake. I am currently awaiting word from the powers that be as to the disposition of my $225 investment.

You need some room, from a height perspective. it has lids that flip up for adding coffee and water. I had to relocate this to a part of the counter with no cupboards.Work out fine, I LIKE to show it off!
cleaning is a snap.
very simple, one toggle, off and on, thats it!
It seems to be built very well, time will tell.
If you want a beautiful machine that gets the job done,(water temp ect) I would HIGHLY recommend it. If you want a machine that you can program to make coffee for the next week. this is not the one.
So far I LOVE it. a work of art!

update:
unfortunately it quit working after about a year..have not tried to contact customer service. it was great while it worked.

1.0 out of 5 stars Looks great but not very reliable, September 25, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: DeLonghi DCM900 10-Cup Coffee Maker (Kitchen)
My old coffee maker stopped working; it was old and heavily used. I desperately needed a new one - Amazon Prime to the rescue. In no time at all I took delivery of the DeLonghi DCM900 and put it to work. I like the look of the machine, and it worked well. For a month.

It stopped working one day.

Because it had been delivered just over a month before it stopped working Amazon were not interested in helping resolve this issue.

A series of fairly frustrating calls with the DeLonghi service people followed, but eventually they said they'd ship me a replacement. All I had to do was send back the plug from the broken machine, and they'd send me a replacement. I sent back the plug, and nothing happened. After a couple of weeks I called and was told that the replacement was on back-order and would be at least a month.

I don't function too well without coffee, so a quick trip to a local store saw my kitchen equipped with a cheap and cheerful Mr Coffee coffee maker as a stand in.

Eventually the new machine arrived, and worked fine. Until this morning when it just stopped working. Dead. On the positive side, this one lasted four months before it died.

I am not going to bother asking for a replacement, and will NEVER buy another DeLonghi product.

My kitchen is now equipped with a nice looking completely non-functional DeLonghi DCM900 and a cheap and cheerful functional Mr Coffee coffee maker. Guess which makes better coffee ?

Now the search begins again for a good coffee maker. . . .

1.0 out of 5 stars Piece of Junk, September 16, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: DeLonghi DCM900 10-Cup Coffee Maker (Kitchen)
Stopped working after 2 months of just once a day brewing and meticulous cleaning. Waiting for Amazon to return my money since it was only warranteed by Today's Concept for 30 days. DeLonghi wants me to return this "piece of junk" at my expense which I refuse to do. DO NOT BUY THIS. Pay attention to the negative reviews for they have quite a bit of merit. The coffeemaker works very well at first but then it goes kaput for absolutely no reason. It will happen to you also.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Coffee for 3 weeks, September 17, 2010
This review is from: DeLonghi DCM900 10-Cup Coffee Maker (Kitchen)
It was love at first pot. I was starry eyed with excitement over the best at-home coffee I had ever experienced (and I've been around the block a few times with coffee -I am a junkie). But just like most sudden loves, it faded fast. After 3 weeks of passion, my coffee maker sputtered, steamed and just stopped working. Like a fool, I have ordered a replacement. I hope this time things work out.

1.0 out of 5 stars DeLonghi DCM900 10-Cup Coffee Maker - Pretty but useless, September 9, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: DeLonghi DCM900 10-Cup Coffee Maker (Kitchen)
I ordered this unit on July 29, 2011. Coffee Maker arrived in apparent new condition well packaged on August 4th. This machine made fantastic coffee until September 5th. I tried to make coffee on the 5th and the machine brewed 6 of 10 cups of water and then quit. The heat stopped under the carafe and the machine has not brewed another pot since.
I cleaned the machine (difficult since it wont move any more water through the heating coils) to the best of my ability.
No apparent damage has been done to the machine, hasn't been dropped or abused...just sat on the counter and made 1 pot of coffee a day for a month...then DIED!!!
Similar experiences noted from quite a few other people.
Forty-four dollar waste of money. I now have a twenty five dollar black & decker... coffee doesnt tastes as good b/c it wont heat the water hot enough, but at least I have a morning cup o' joe!!!!!!!!!!
Four attempts to contact seller and manufacture for replacement have not been successful.
AVOID THIS COFFEE MAKER!!!!

Update - after posting the above review. The store I purchased this coffee maker from contacted me with RMA information. I paid for the shipping to return the malfunctioning unit and to their credit, they did ship me a new unit in timely fashion.
The new unit arrived well packaged with no apparent damage and worked great for about 2 months and then ...whadayaknow... it DIED just like the first one. No warning, no indication of a problem it just stops cycling/heating the water.
I give up... I paid $44 for the machine + about $10 for the shipping - in return had some well made coffee for about 3 months...cheaper then Starbucks I guess but I won't attempt another DeLonghi.

1.0 out of 5 stars Faulty Beauty, September 7, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: DeLonghi DCM900 10-Cup Coffee Maker (Kitchen)
Was suckered in by extremely low price point of this great looking coffee pot. Should have paid closer attention to negative reviews. Machine brewed incredible coffee for approx 1 month, at which point it stopped working completely. Efforts to descale resulted in a very flimsy reset switch being stuck within the body of the machine. Very disappointing, and not worth the even greatly reduced price sticker here. Back to my $10 Mr Coffee which has brewed without a glitch for 5 years.....

1.0 out of 5 stars Like a Ferrari, August 6, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: DeLonghi DCM900 10-Cup Coffee Maker (Kitchen)
I could not figure out how to give no stars. This thing starts out great; it's fast, looks cool, and makes a great cup of coffee. AND THEN IT BREAKS ALL OVER YOUR COUNTER!!! Yesterday I put my coffee together, put water in the pot, and the next thing you know the coffee is all over the counter. I cleaned it up, and went to work sans coffee figuring I had somehow neglected to put the coffee pot under the pause button correctly. However, this morning I was very careful and watched as the coffee was made. Imagine my surprise when all I got was steam, a mess on my counter and the lovely smell of burnt plastic and burnt fingers. This maker runs too hot after a time, I guess, and burns out -- kind of like a Ferrari. Don't buy this hunk o junk: and Amazon, you should pull this product before someone gets hurt.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great at first... only a few months use before it died., September 5, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: DeLonghi DCM900 10-Cup Coffee Maker (Kitchen)
This was an excellent coffee maker when I bought it. Took exactly 6 minutes to brew a full pot, and the temp was very close to 200°F like it should be. Very attractive. Worked great... for 3 or 4 months. I saw some of the other reviews and thought I'd take a chance at it given the price. Now the little light around the switch comes on, but that's it. No heat to the hot plate, and no movement with the water in the tank. I would not bother with this.

1.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful coffee maker...terrible reliability!, May 25, 2010

This review is from: DeLonghi DCM900 10-Cup Coffee Maker (Kitchen)
I bought this coffee maker in early May, 2010 after my Cuisinart CBC series coffee maker finally started functioning irregularly after 7 years of daily use. I wasn't using the programming function of that coffee maker too much and honestly, despite its reliability, the Cuisinart is rather plain, especially compared to this DeLonghi model that I'd been hearing and reading about.

Well, one of our local big box stores (with a great return policy) had these for a fraction of what Amazon charges so I decided to go for it. It worked great up until today and then it just stopped brewing mysteriously. The left side of the machine that holds the water wouldn't process and transfer it over to the right side where the coffee resides. I'm not really clear what the issue was, but when I finally tried to push the reset button, the button got stuck inside the machine! Great. I dislodged the button and returned it back to its original position, but as far as I could tell, pushing it didn't have any effect. Even after a thorough cleaning, it still wouldn't work. I'm mulling over what to do next...it's easy to return but if I buy another one, will the same situation develop?

Perhaps, it's just extremely delicate...at any rate, a far different experience from the workhorse production I got from the Cuisinart. It really is a shame as it's the most attractive counter top appliance in the kitchen.
