This unit made rich coffee that was not bitter. After 3 months of use the base power contact became defective and the unit would not work. I contacted Delonghi , who denied warranty because it was not purchased from an "AUTHORIZED" seller. They claim the base cannot be bought seperately and my only option was to buy a new one from them at $150.00. what a gang of retards, I will not buy another Delonghi product again.

Although DeLonghi claims no filter is needed with this product, that is a gross misstatement. Even coffee with a custom percolator grind, which is larger than a drip grind, will come through the holes in the filter cup and give you a textured cup of gritty crap. I finally bought some filters at the grocery store and cut a hole in the bottom to use with this after nothing else worked. That solved about 85% of the grind/filter problem, but that last cup of coffee is usually poured out.
The taste of the coffee is much improved over traditional makers in my opinion. It is less bitter. It is also much weaker, which I prefer. Being from Portland, I find nearly all of the cofee in restaurants here far too strong and bitter. Even if I completely pack the coffee filter cup, the coffee is not very strong. If you are a person that enjoys strong coffee, do not buy this percolator! Although I have complaints about this product, I did give it 3 stars. This was based on the fact that I like the sweeter, weaker coffee it makes, and it is also a very good looking machine. The fact that it is virtually cordless makes it very convenient to use if you entertain or like to carry the pot over to the table to pour. The base connects to the pot no matter which angle it is placed in at. The base and bottom are completely compatible for 360 degrees. I've read many online complaints that the thermostat is prone to dying on this machine. I've used it 1-2 times a week for 5 months. So far it has no problems with heating or regulating the temperature.

This percolator makes great coffee but it leaked the first day I used it. I kept it anyway because it made such great coffee but I have had it a year now and the leaking has only gotten worse. If the lid was not made of plastic for viewing it would not have this problem. Am going to try contacting company, like another reviewer said they did, but will not buy this again.
