Italian passion for elegant design, a penchant for color, and technological innovation characterize the De’Longhi Icona collection. The Icona Pump Espresso Machine is inspired by vintage Italian design that blends intuitive controls with bold finishes and quality materials. The dual filter holder, combined with the Icona’s high-pressure pump extraction, create caramel-colored crema with every use. Professional-style features include a warming plate on top of the machine to keep cups warm before use, as well as De'Longhi’s patented milk frothing Cappuccino System that enables you to make rich, thick, long-lasting foam for your latte or cappuccino. The Icona Pump Espresso Machine evokes the Italian spirit of la dolce vita, enhancing the design of any modern kitchen with a touch of style. The Icona Collection, which also includes the Icona Electric Kettle and the Icona 2 Slice Toaster, is inspired by the bold, striking lines of 1950s Italian design; a time when Italy was just beginning to dictate the rules of fashion and style to the world.
Convenient Frothing Wand for Rich, Long-Lasting Foam
Enjoy traditional cappuccino, enhanced by De’Longhi technology: rich, thick, long-lasting foam for you or your guests, made quickly and effortlessly.
15-Bar Pressure Pump System
As opposed to steam-powered extraction systems that push water through coffee grounds using only two to three bars of pressure, the Icona Pump Espresso Machine uses 15 bars of pressure. The high-pressure pump creates the foamy crema that gives espresso its rich flavor.
Multifunctional Filter Holder and Convenient Built-In Coffee Tamper
The filter holder is compatible with ground coffee as well as Easy Serving Espresso (ESE) pods. Offered by some of the world’s leading coffee roasters, including Illy and Starbucks, ESE pods are pre-portioned, so they take the guesswork out of preparation and are easier to clean up than ground coffee. Rails on the sides of the cup warming plate protect cups from accidentally falling off. The coffee tamper is built in, so you have one less piece of equipment cluttering your preparation space. Refill the 48-ounce water reservoir by lifting it out of the machine using its specially designed handle.
Intuitive Control Panel
This espresso pump's face includes three indicator buttons with corresponding lights to show whether the unit is on or off, the temperature of the coffee or hot water, and the pressure of the steam. The knob on top of the machine regulates the volume of steam released through the Cappuccino System steam wand.
Need to push the button to heat the water and then, when the light green is on, push the button to operate the pump in order to release water. If the button for the heating element to warm the water is not pushed will result in delivery of cold water.

I would like to give another tip, which is that the first 10 or so times that you use the machine, the filter attachment (the thing with the handle) is extremely hard to get to its fully attached position. Fully attached is perpendicular to the machine; this is not indicated anywhere in the manual. So if your machine is LOUD, you may not have this fully attached. It gets easier after a few uses. The machine is not very loud when you use it properly.
The best thing about this machine is that it is easy to pull a delicious shot of espresso with this machine, if you do it right you won't fail. I like that the machine looks really good on my countertop. It has a larger water reservoir and a nice cup warming tray, although the warming tray won't heat up your cups but will keep them warm if you have already heated them up with hot water. Its really great that I can use either a prepacked coffee packet or tamp my own grounds for the espresso. The two spouts pour very evenly and it produces a lot of great creama.
There are a few things I wish were improved upon. One of which is the button interface, its nonintuitive if you are using it for the first time. I will go into detail later on how to properly use this machine. Another big annoyance is that frother wand only swivels side to side and doesn't rotate front to back like most machines have. The whole thing is made of plastic which gives it a slightly cheaper feel and makes it less sturdy when you are knocking the thing around. Another big annoyance is that the size of tamper you need is a really uncommon size, 52cm, and the tamper provided that is attached to the machine is awkward to use and you never really get a good tamp with it.

Here is a follow up to my initial review:
The espresso maker worked very well for about six months, making approximately three espressos daily. At the six month mark, the boiler gasket lost its elasticity, rendering the machine completely unusable. I wasn't unduly concerned about the quality because the machine had seen so much use.
However, my experience with Delonghi customer service has been frustrating.
During my first phone conversation with customer service, I supplied all needed information including the unit's serial number. Immediately following the phone call, I emailed a .pdf of my invoice from Amazon. I didn't get a response so I sent the email with the reference number and attached .pdf invoice two more times.
After my third email, one week after initial contact, Delonghi's response was "customer advocate will respond shortly."
Delonghi's website states that "Our consumer service representatives strive to respond to all e-mail inquiries within 24 hours of receipt."
Dissatisfied with this response, my husband followed up with a phone call, two days ago. During this phone call, the serial number was provided yet again.
10 days after initial contact, I received another request for the invoice and for the serial number. After sending the invoice four times and the serial number three times, I have run out of patience with their quality of service.
Following my initial phone conversation, all I needed was the shipping address for their certified repair shop in Dallas, as the unit is under warranty. They took 10 days to get me the address.
I still think the machine works fairly well considering the upfront price. However, once a problem does arise, you're out of luck.

works great. only thing I dont like too much is the portafilter is cheap, and its hard to insert into the machine. The top is plastic not metal like it looks. Read morePublished 15 days ago by Jason Wagoner
