Handy with An Ugly Cord,

We purchased this item approximately one month ago. It is our first toaster oven. All features perform as promised. You need to fine tune the toasting selection to your liking. It took a few trial and errors to stop burning/under cooking frozen waffles. I like the cool exterior for safety reasons. I debated purchasing this unit versus the Cuisinart. This unit has a front crumb tray. Cuisinart has back loading tray and no cool exterior. I cannot imagine how troublesome it would be to take out crumb tray from back, as I do this daily to clean up from messy teenagers. The only thing I hate is the darn ugly cord that comes with this unit. One would think that a white appliance would have a WHITE cord but this cord is one ugly black snake that I had to work very hard to hide on my white countertop. Regardless, I am still happy with our purchase.

I am most pleased with this item!! Having had previous toaster ovens that were NOT DeLonghis, I feel qualified to offer an informed assessment... Far and above, this models does an excellent job of making toast--equally done, only requiring a slight adjustment if alternating types of bread...
I also want to mention the excellent job it does on cooking appetizers, small casseroles, frozen potatoes...This model truly fully heats any item we've tried!! Jim Brown

My old toaster gave up and my sister had been bugging me to replace the toaster with a toaster oven since it can do so many more things then just a toaster. Well, she was correct. I have baked potaoes, reheated pizza (better tasting then the microwave), melted cheese on top of leftovers to liven them up, and done other things with the unit. It doesn't replace the oven, but it offers an alternative to placing quite as much heat in this Arizona house in the summer. Desert dwellers will know what I am speaking of.

Loud, annoying timer; otherwise acceptable, but not great,

When our ancient Black & Decker toaster oven finally bit the dust, we looked around for a replacement. A KitchenAid would have been our first choice, except they don't seem to make theirs in the cobalt blue that would match our other KitchenAid appliances. And in any case, the KitchenAid toaster ovens are too expensive. So we ended up with this DeLonghi unit. In some ways, it's a downgrade to our old B&D. On the good side, it's much bigger and more versatile in terms of the food that we could put in it. But we don't cook chickens or anything like that (rather use the real oven for that stuff), so for us the size is a potential benefit, rather than a practical one.
The old B&D's bottom wire rack slid out for quick access to the food when you opened the door; not so with the DeLonghi. The B&D allowed you to set the toast darkness control to a particular setting, then press an activate switch, so you always got food toasted or cooked to the same amount every time. For toasting, the DeLonghi darkness control is the same as the timer, so you have to remember where on the dial you like your food, then turn it to that point. And let's say that you look at the food and see that it's getting a little overdone (because you set the timer a bit too long); because the timer is connected to the cooking, you can't turn the toaster oven off ahead of time. All you can do is open the oven and pull out the food, then let the timer run down by itself. Because it's a mechanical timer, it resists being ended early. Did I mention that the timer is really loud? Imagine an annoyingly loud ticking sound in your quiet kitchen at 7 AM. Like, say, an old windup clock, or a bomb out of an old movie. Don't buy this unit if you're subject to hangovers; you would probably beg for mercy before your toast was done. Luckily I'm not in that category. Overall, this DeLonghi unit just barely makes it over the "It would be too much of a pain to pack and return it" threshold. After all, it's just a toaster oven, and we don't use it that much anyway. But I'm so not in love with it. If I were to make the decision again, knowing what I do now, I would have spent a bit more money and gone with one of the Cuisinart toaster ovens.

First, I'll agree with the other reviewer about the ugly cord. One would think that they would use a white cord. I got lucky and found that it doesn't show with my arrangement.
The white they used for this model is a good match to the MagicChef white, the Black and Decker white, the Whirlpool white and the Broan white. My biggest complaint about most of the ovens I have looked at in the stores was that the door feels loose and janky. Let's see, the thing I use the most SHOULDN'T be the cheapest-feeling thing on it, but they usually were. The door on the DeLongi is not the most noticeable thing - meaning it just blends in with the rest of the construction as far as quality and usefulness. Meaning: NO janky garbage here. The knobs are good, still way better than the ones I felt on the new O***r ovens, which were horrible. The heating element is nicely placed in that i found it heated the food evenly. A mini pizza came out with an even browning on both sides. When using the supplied trays you may find that the heat doesn't quite travel around the tray to the top like it should. We end up using the rack most of time, anyway. The top of the unit gets very warm, but doesn't feel as though it would burn you if you touched it quickly. (If you pass out and fall on top of this thing you might experience a different result.) The sides remain quite cool to the touch. The back, however, is just metal and gets just as hot as the inside of the oven. I recommend you keep an eye on just how far back you shove this thing to your wall. Anything that touches the back of the unit MAY get hot or become melted (i.e. wiring, counter back splash, Grandma's hand-knitted doilies...) The bell is kind of annoying. In this day and age, I do not own anything that has a bell and striker. When the timer reaches zero or when you turn it off the oven rings the bell once. I found it a bit 'rotary dial' sounding (yes, you're old if you remember those phones.) So, when you are up at midnight sneaking in a piece of toast you will surely wake up the others with the tell-tale sound of that stupid bell as you turn off the oven. Then you will have to either explain or share. I'm opening it up and removing it - I like my secret midnight toast. All being said, I HIGHLY recommend this oven.

Great product, does what it advertises as far as cooking, toasting, broiling, etc. Only downside, is the first time we used the product (white in color), it browned the top of the unit, above the glass door on top. Paint discolored due to the heat, and I would of thought it would be designed not to do this, and to withstand the heat. Recommend getting stainless or black if you buy this, or you have a "used" looking product after the first use. I am not happy about this.

Works great. We use consistently for toasting bagels and bread as well as cooking boboli pizza. Also great for keeping food warm.
Save energy and avoid heating up your kitchen by keeping your oven turned off....

This replaced a B&D that was very old. Let me say it puts the B&D to shame. Everyone can have their toast to perfection without having to remember to reset the darkness control every time someone else uses it. It's bigger and more versatile than any TO we have ever owned before. It accommodates a good sized pan or dish and we don't have to turn on the oven when it's 95 in the shade. The timer is not loud or annoying and I am up at 5AM. If your toast is done early just give the dial a simple little turn.
We were not sure we wanted a unit of this size but it looks great along with our white KitchenAid appliances. It really should have a white cord.

I got this cooker to replace my old faithful B&D Toaster-Oven, and spent much time researching models and reading reviews to find a new unit with the features, quality and size to fit our decor and cooking needs.
Positives: It is a very nice-looking toaster-oven. The size is ideal to toast 4-6 slices, a 12" pizza, or a small casserole, without engulfing the countertop. Toast comes out perfectly, pizza cooks great too. The lower position of the 2-position tray is useful to avoid burning items cooked in a pan such as cinnamon rolls. Drawbacks: the front is vertical so you cannot easily see the cooking progress when seen from overhead kitchen lighting, and the tray does not move forward when opening the door, these are both handled better on my old unit from 12 years ago. Worse, the bake pan has shallow and poorly-sloped sides which limits usable capacity, thank goodness I can use the pan from my old toaster-oven instead. But overall, I'm quite pleased with this new toaster-oven, it cooks well and we've had no problems. ** Other observations: The timer ticks when toasting, but it is quiet, not annoying at all. It would be nice to have a white cord, but the black cord is not an issue for us. Print on the dials is small-ish, but not hard to read. The top gets pretty hot, the sides are relatively cool. The instruction manual describes a convection-oven feature, but this model (EO1200) doesn't have it. The crumb tray is easy to clean. |
