Toaster oven is a disappointment - can't read knobs!,
By Ametrine (Ohio) - See all my reviews
This review is from: DeLonghi EO1238 1/2-Cubic-Foot 6-Slice Toaster Oven, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
Right out of the box I knew I was in trouble- toaster is lightweight, which is not a good thing for an appliance. Also, the toaster is not nearly as stylish as I expected- esp. for a brushed stainless steel model. The ends seem to be made of plastic?? but the worst thing is: you cannot read the knobs! The black writing on the shiny chrome is impossible to read in my kitchen. Most toasters put the writing on the toaster itself-so you can set the dial to the desired setting. Not so with this one, and the knobs are cheap looking- also I didn't realize that there was no time setting, only a setting for dark-light toast. How do you time a pizza???? My old one had a 20 minute timer that automatically went off when you were done.(this is entirely my fault for not checking- just threw that in in case somebody wanted to know)I hate to post a bad review- esp. since this is my first one. I do a lot of research before I buy online, and I always read other reviews first. I have to say I'm really disappointed in this toaster- I was looking forward to a toaster oven with "cool touch" sides as it is hard to find. I'll keep looking. Don't bother with this model!

Great toaster oven,

We bought this toaster oven when our (very) old toaster oven died. We've had it about a month and so far its great. It is much larger than our last one - it toasts 6 slices at once (our old one did 2). The top dial is for temperature if you are baking. The middle dial is a timer for toast - you twist it to light, med or dark and it ticks away and dings when it is done. It toasts very well althought it does seem a bit slower than our old one. However, with the 'ding' feature, you can walk away and come back after the toast is done. You turn this dial the other direction to turn the oven on for baking. The bottom dial is to set for bake/broil, or bake/toast.It has 'cool touch' sides which we like and so far, it seems to be pretty easy to clean. I pull the removable crumb tray out every couple days, wash it and slide it back in, and wipe down the glass door. It has 2 slots for the rack inside - one is about in the middle of the oven (which we use) and the other one is at the bottom of the oven - just above the bottom burner -we haven't tried cooking anything there. You are supposed to be able to put a 12" pizza in and it has a rounded out area in the back to accomodate this, but we have not tried that feature yet. The oven came with a rectangular metal broiler pan only. We picked this toaster oven for several reasons - first we wanted something low profile - many of the other ovens we looked at were quite 'tall'. We also wanted one with a button or timer for toast that was convenient to use - many of the others were not. Our primary use for this unit is toast with secondary being baking (which we also do frequently). In our shopping, it appeared that many of the large toaster ovens on the market today are geared toward baking more than conveient toasting. This was one of the few I found with a toast timer that was convenient to use. So far we love this toaster oven - highly recommended.

What Geoff thinks,
This review is from: DeLonghi EO1238 1/2-Cubic-Foot 6-Slice Toaster Oven, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
This is the second DeLonghi toaster oven that I have owned. There are a couple of improvements that are worth mentioning. The addition of an oven light is great. Also, the non stick pan and broiler rack is a big plus. The only reason I won't give it 5 stars is due to the difficulty in reading the black on stainless indicators on the dials. It is really an incovenience.

Great oven - not so stainless!,

As far as cooking goes, this oven is top notch. Toast is crisp, and food is perfectly cooked. Regarding the reading of the knobs, sure it's a little hard to read, but once you've used the settings a few times, you know where you want to place the dials anyway. My only criticism that the stainless steel isn't so stainless. As soon as you touch it with your hand, you leave a fingerprint which must be rubbed off with a cloth or else you'll see black marks all over the top of the oven. Since this has nothing to do with the overall performance of the unit, I'm giving it five stars.

Cheap Handle Broke Off After a Few Months,
By Karolyn K (Westlake Village, CA United States) - See all my reviews

I have had DeLonghi toaster ovens for the past 15 years. They have been very high quality. This one was a piece of junk. Plastic, plastic, plastic. The outside looks like stainless steel - but it is just painted plastic. The PLASTIC knob snapped off after a couple of months.

I have two small children, perhaps enough said but.... This oven is great! It does, in fact, accomodate a 12" pizza, namely, the "Trader Joe's 3 Cheese" that my 3yr old loves, but any 12-14" round thing would fit. Summer in Boston means any means of baking without heating the whole kitchen is great . Also good for toast, quesadillas, and even chicken. Believe it or not, I actually cook, and this item works wonders when you can't deal with the whole kitchen being heated. And it makes great easy toasted bread, and waffles etc. too. If you can get it cheap, get it.

Very good toaster oven,

its nice and big. plenty of space for 6 slices of bread. good alternative to the large oven. Read some negativity about the legibility of the dial knobs - I've had no problem. Maybe they just need to get glasses :)When the toaster is in 'toast mode', its designed to tick like an old fashion timer and then has a loud ding sound when its done. That's kind of annoying. But,, that aside, I really love it.

Spacious and well-designed,

This review is from: DeLonghi EO1238 1/2-Cubic-Foot 6-Slice Toaster Oven, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
This was the natural upgrade for our aging smaller DeLonghi toaster oven. We got extremely good service from the older on. For a little more external space consumption you get much more internal space (6 bread slices instead of two or a 12" pizza). The design improvements are a shelf that comes out with the glass door and a much more accessible crumb tray. Couldn't be more pleased!

Loved it...then hated it,

This review is from: DeLonghi EO1238 1/2-Cubic-Foot 6-Slice Toaster Oven, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
I loved this oven when I got it mostly because of the look and the ease of cleaning it. However, at 13 months it just stopped working in the middle of toasting a piece of bread. No warning, nothing, just turned off and wouldn't turn on again. Beware - if you read the reviews you will see that several of these stopped working at 13 months - just one month after the warranty ends. We live in Chicago and can't even get it fixed. To find Delonghi service we would need to drive to another state! We had a great Delonghi but got this new one to replace the battered 15 year old one but now we are kicking ourselves. I wouldn't have believed the reviews but then it happened to us. Don't do it!

$100 Toaster,
This review is from: DeLonghi EO1238 1/2-Cubic-Foot 6-Slice Toaster Oven, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
This product is a toaster. Nothing else. The timer control has 3 settings (for toast only), LIGHT-MEDIUM_DARK. In trying to cook a 6in. frozen pizza, it took 4 turns of the dial (to DARK) to produce an undercooked, soogy crusted pizza. This is a real POS. Dials are hard to read, does not cook ANYTHING well but toast. There are better choices, for less $. Stay away from this one. |
