Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Designed for quickly cooling any room in the house, this thoughtfully designed portable air conditioner uses R410a refrigerant gas to help protect the environment and the ozone layer. Its refrigerant also provides energy-efficient operation, using less energy to deliver the same amount of cooling as other refrigerant types. The air conditioner produces 12,000 BTUs of cooling power and offers four different fan speeds depending upon the level of cooling desired. It also supplies an electronic control panel with an easy-to-read LCD display, a fully featured remote control, and a 24-hour programmable timer that turns the unit on at a specific time--great for coming home to a cool room at the end of the day.

In addition to cooling the air, the unit also functions as a dehumidifier with a "dripless" system, which means no annoying bucket to empty. Other highlights include Sleep and Smart modes, built-in air filtration, an energy-efficient adjustable thermostat, and quiet performance thanks to the high-efficiency compressor and components, as well as durable caster wheels and side handles for portability. Accessories include a window bracket and an exhaust hose for easy installation. The unit effectively combines an air cooler, a dehumidifier, and an air cleaner all in one stylish design that will nicely complement any decor. Designed and engineered in Italy, the air conditioner measures approximately 15 by 18-1/4 by 30-1/2 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

From the Manufacturer

This De'Longhi Pinguino Portable Air Conditioner has 12,000 BTU's for powerful performance. It incorporates a refrigerant gas, R410A, which contains zero ODP (ozone depletion potential) and is also denser, allowing for more compact components and units. R410A is a more-efficient refrigerant that allows for better energy-saving technology. And because it's portable, you can spot cool room as needed, which is more energy-efficient than your central system.

The air conditioner includes an easy-to-use digital display with a fully featured remote control that allows easy and immediate control of functions and room temperature, a 24-hour programmable timer, an energy-efficient adjustable thermostat to keep power-usage at a minimum, 3 fan speeds, and auto fan function. In addition, it has a very quiet operation due to its high efficiency compressor and components and unique no drip technology. With this exclusive process, Pinguino uses condensation and collected moisture to help cool the air. Excess vapor is then discharged through the exhaust hose. This product is easily portable thanks to its durable indoor and outdoor castor wheels and side-carry handles. The unit includes the following accessories: an extra-large professional caster kit and a window bracket and an exhaust hose.

Save Energy While Cooling Down
R410a refrigerant gas saves money by operating more efficiently and does not harm the environment. Because R410a is a denser and more efficient gas, it is possible to reduce the size of system components such as condensers, compressors, evaporators, piping, and more. R410a operates at higher pressures compared to R22, so the whole system must be designed for sustainability with R410a. Because of this, R410a is a more energy saving technology.

How Do Portable Air Conditioners Work?
Simply enough, portable air conditioners cool your room by removing the hot air and exhausting it out a window. There are also a number of overall benefits of portable air conditioners, including:
  • Provides energy saving spot cooling
  • Ideal for home with no central air
  • Does not obstruct the view out the window
  • Easily moved from one window to another
  • All parts included--no tools required!
  • Quick 5-minute set-up

Product Description

Want supplemental cooling that won't block your view? Do you live in an apartment building that doesn't allow window air conditioners? For any scenario, the De'Longhi Portable Air Conditioner with 12,000 BTUs is the ideal solution. Don't suffer in the heat, simply roll the unit into a room and place it near a window. Plug it in, slide in the window bracket, attach the hose and turn it on. It's that easy, there are no tools required! You will also save money with plenty of energy-efficient features such as refrigerant gas and an adjustable thermostat. The 24-hour double function timer allows you to set it only for the time you need cooling. With most units you need to continuously empty excess condensation from a bucket. But with "no drip" technology, the unit automatically recylces the condensation so you never have to empty a bucket again! Other highlights include 3 fan speeds, auto fan function, boost function, easy-to-use digital controls with LCD display and remote, as well smart and sleep functions. With quiet, worry-free operation, this unit is perfect for anywhere cooling is needed.

Leaks everywhere May 22, 2009
This unit does the job advertised, I will admit that. It does cool a room very well. In fact, it keeps the back half of our house nice and cool.

The downside is that it leaks like crazy. Even with the dehumidifier off. And I live in El Paso, not exactly a humid area of the country.

The problem seems to mostly stem from the fact that unlike most similar units, the internal tank is not removeable. This means you can not drain the water off before it overflows the tank.

To make it worse, there is a drain hole in the rear of the unit. But hooking up a hose does not good. It seems it is only made to drain the unit at the end of the season, not for routine use. This places it to high in the tank to actually drain.

We are seeing roughly a gallon of water a day leaking from this unit. I just wish I had looked here before I bought it.

We are on our second Pinguino after our first machine leaked on our carpet. We returned the unit now the second machine leaks aproximately 4 pints of water a day. Delonghi know they are selling a defective product. When you call customer service there is a promt for Penguinuo air conditioners!
They refuse to do anything about replacing this unit at no cost to me.

WARNING*** Do Not Buy This August 21, 2009
***BUY AT YOUR OWN RISK***
I purchased this DeLonghi PAC A120E a year ago when my wife and I needed a stand up air conditioner unit. I should have read the reviews here because it started leaking water all over our carpet and hardwood floor. This unit has been in operation for 3 months and it has broken down and has ruined a 150 dollar carpet. I have tried to contact the customer service for DeLonghi but it is useless. The nearest service center is 75 miles away from my house and is NOT open on weekends. The company does not pay for shipping or send a technician out. DeLonghi is unwilling to help or provide any kind assistance in this matter. Why should they? They already got paid. Our local repair shop will not touch these units and will cost about 200 dollars to replace the part. Please keep in mind this unit is still in warrantee. We are left with a VERY EXPENSIVE PIECE OF JUNK (a 700 dollar piece of junk). They say it is NOT their policy to ship or pay for shipping to their service center. Its a great scam. If I could give this product a negative number I would. SAVE YOUR MONEY. I will NEVER buy a DeLonghi product again. I just want to reiterate what an absolute inconvienece this is. It is the hottest week of the summer and my thermostat has reached 93 in my living room. So, thanks DeLonghi for that. I'm sweating as I type this and I bet your CEO is sitting somewhere very cool and perspiration free.

PS. I am not exaggerating and have not had any previous problems with DeLonghi, but they have been awful to deal with.
