My 5,000 BTU window AC unit did not cool the room as much as the DeLonghi PACN130HPE 13,000 BTU's claimed did.
Mr Van
I'm giving it only 4-stars because of the increasing difficulty in finding replacement parts and because the fan is a little loud when on high.

The room stays warm and even with the temp outside at 80 the room never get lower than 75... It's going back to the store for a window unit.

I purchased this unit to supplement a 12000 BTU window unit that is located in the master bedroom located at the end of a hall in my ranch type house and didn't want a noisy window unit in the livingroom. Normaly that unit keeps the whole house comfortable, the living room is around 72 degrees, however the bedroom is 62 degrees. The Delonghi unit was placed in the livingroom and on very hot/humid days (Temps 89-90+ days) the Delongie, runs quitely, and keeps the living room area, including the country style kitchen dinning area that's adjacant to the livingroom very comfortable. When the temperture is in the high 70-80's if the Delonghi is turned on in the ornings keeps the livingroom/dinning area very confortable and I don't have to use the window unit. Don't expect to come home on a 90 degree day, turn the Delonghi unit on and expect it to cool the room down, it will lower the temp into the low 80's in a hour. I get a kick out of people who do this and expect any air condition to lower a 90+ degree room in a short time. I have delayed the start in the morning for the Delonghi for a few hours after I leave, but before the high temps reach into the daily highs. Haven't used the Heat Pump yet, but I imagine it is for "supplemental" heat on cooler days, and not ment to heat the house. Overall it was just what I needed and iused correctly does just what I want it to.

I used to do Air conditioning and Heating for a living so I know very well what I am talking about. For many years now I have a different career. I recently bought a house that was missing its central heat and AC air unit. My mom intending to be sweet and wanting to help out bought me a moving in gift which is this DeLonghi PACN130HPE. She forgets I am a expert in AC as I lived out of state while in that career.

Upon opening the box I immediately became suspicious of its advertised cooling capacities. I instantly knew that in order for it to accomplish its claims, it would have to have two ventilation hoses to an outside window. 1 a fresh air intake hose. And 2 a heat exhaust hose. But it only came with the capacity to handle one hose only which is the heat exhaust hose.

Let me explain Air conditioning principles of operation. There are two primary components of moving heat from the inside of a building to the outside of a building so you are left with a cool interior. One is an evaporator and the other is a condenser.

The evaporator is made cold by the incoming Freon/refrigerant. Warm humid interior air is drawn into the evaporator where it becomes cold and dryer and is then blown out the other/exhaust side of the evaporator as cool air. The heat and moisture/humidity that had been in the incoming air is removed and transferred into the refrigerant as the now cool dry air leaves the exhaust side of the evaporator and is blown back into the room for your enjoyment.

Now the refrigerant has picked up the heat and humidity and must take it somewhere to dump the heat as it becomes cool again so it can continue in its continuous circle loop endlessly.

I bought 3 of these units at $500 each. 2 of them ceased working within a week. No help from the help line. OK, try to pack them back up again and lug them back to the store, or ship them. The third one does come on, but the tiny water reservoir fills immediately and is difficult and time-consuming to empty.

this is a very badly designed and thought-out product. I wish I'd never laid eyes on it. I've never been so disgusted with anything I've bought ever. Save yourself. Do not even consider this item. It does not work.

Frankly, I'm skeptical of a few reviews here and seriously have to wonder if they don't have a conflict of interest with their negative comments and super low ratings. One reviewer, after posting a mile-long wall of text proclaims this unit to be "a gimmick and fake AC". Huh? The unit is nowhere close to being a "gimmick", and because it does what it says it will do (cool the room it's in) it is certainly not a "fake AC".

I have no axe to grind nor do I have a conflict of interest with my review. I'm just an average, everyday person who does not like being hot in the summer time when the temps go above 75 degrees. So, here goes:

This air conditioner does what it is supposed to: cool a room. The fan is not quiet when on high, but that's to be expected and, frankly, it's an acceptable "white noise" that's easy to get used to. The only issue I have with this unit is that - because it's been discontinued - replacement parts are difficult to obtain. I purchased this item at a liquidation store and the exhaust hose, hose connectors, hose adapters, window bracket, and remote control were not included with the unit. That left me having to find these items online. The window bracket, hose and connectors and remote are available - one of the adapters (to fit in the window bracket) are not. Not a big issue for me, but it might be for someone. That said, this unit typically comes with the venting kit, so there shouldn't be a problem as there are places (apart from Amazon.com) still selling this unit with everything included.

I have been using the unit to cool our bedroom that last few nights due to a bit of a summer "heat wave" we are experiencing in the Pacific Northwest.
