4.0 out of 5 stars Keeps me warm in the cold North East
Bought this heater towards the end of September'2002. So I have not owned it for a long time. I bought a high end ceramic heater before it and returned it promptly as the power cord was getting warm even after a 20-25 minute use. I bought this heater after that. I live in Northeast Canada where it is really chilly and cold. Tried out the heater and think this one fits...

2.0 out of 5 stars Heats great, but the "click, click, click" drove everyone insane
The consistant "click, click, click" is too annoying and wakes people up at night. I purchased two of these new, and it is two of these that I am giving to Goodwill. They do, however, heat well.

Tried out the heater and think this one fits the bill.

Pros
------
It has three power settings, 600 watts, 900 watts and 1500 watts. I placed it in a room which is about 13 square feet and had it going on the low setting of 600 watts. The room was nice and warm in 30 minutes. Remember this is the low setting, so that's pretty good performance.
It is quiet and will not disturb you when you're sleeping or resting.
It has foot mounted controls that are easy to use to control the wattage settings.
The power cord or plug was not warm to the touch after operating it for a good two hours.
It has a thermostat that does work. Once you get the temperature to a comfortable level, you have to turn the thermostat dial anti-clockwise till the lights go off on the heater. It will then maintain the room temperature automatically by coming on when needed.
It has a safety feature of shutting off if it's moved from side to side but I am not going to test that out for obvious reasons. It's good to know that they have the feature though. Most of the housing is cool to the touch when operating but this is a baseboard heater and the grill is going to get hot.

Cons
------
The big gripe about the product is the power cord. It's only three feet long and that is just not enough for ideal placement in a room. This is a baseboard heater, therefore placement is important as you want to avoid high traffic areas in the house. I think at a minimum it should have a seven foot cord.
It is quite long, about four feet, so it is not ideal for really small spaces.
Not recommended if you have small kids or toddlers in the house.

Bought this item recently and really like it. It does the job well and heated up my 12 by 13 room very effecintly on the low setting. The unit has three settings 600 (low), 900(medium) and 1500(high) watts. I was pleased to see it heat the room on the low setting in a half hour. It is quiet and that's important to me as I don't want to hear whirring or fan noise in the background like other heaters. The plug and power cord was even't the slightest bit warm after 3 hours. I think for the price it's built well. The adjustable thermostat does work but there is no way you can tell what the room temperature is by looking at the unit. My only gripe with this product is the 3 foot long power cord. That's way too small and needs to be 7 feet minimum to aid in ideal placement of the unit in a room.

My husband is extremely cautious when it comes to these sorts of things, but I have a new basement office that needed a little extra heat for the New England winter, so we had to find something. I checked out soooo many types and brands and decided to give this baseboard type a try. It has been GREAT. It warms gently and quietly, does not get terribly hot to the touch and is a nice low profile for under my window. It is truly like adding a bit of baseboard heat where you want it. My husband is happy becuase it is quite stable and since it has a low, long profile there is not the issue of tipping over or being so tall that things will brush up against it. I'm glad I did my homework since this worked out quite well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Efficient, but LONG- hard to find a spot for it, December 21, 2005

I bought this heater after returning a more "upright" convection heater. This one heats very effectively (it clicks and clunks a lot as it heats up, though), but it's pretty darned long, so I have a hard time finding somewhere to put it.

It doesn't have a fan, so it takes a while to heat up, but it still heats pretty fast, and works really well. I'd recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Keeps me warm during cold Canadian winter. Made in Italy., February 10, 2005

I have nothing but good things to say about this heater.

It keeps my studio apartment warm even when it is -20C outside and the main heating system is shut down. It manages to circulate heat without getting too hot to the touch.

There are three heating settings which control the amount of heat produced (and electricity consumed), as well as a temperature control knob.

This appliance is made in Italy. I must say the construction quality is excellent! Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality Heating Option, January 18, 2006

We have depended on natural gas for heat until the price increased to the point of being entirely too expensive. Having read previous reviews we picked two DeLonghi SafeHeat baseboard heaters to suppilment or hopefully replace our dependence on natural gas as a heat source. We have had the units a few weeks and are Delighted with thier preformance and cost effectiveness. They are a bit long, but this is standard with many baseboard heating units. It makes a bit of a clicking noise at times when heating up/cooling down, but we don't find that any real bother. The only real complaint is as others have said... The cord is too short. Only three feet long, but the cord doesn't get hot even after the unit has been running for hours. And so far, our central gas heat has not been needed at all. This is a Quality heater made in Italy and we are Very Pleased in owning two units. One unit heats our main living area and the other our bedroom. It has a low center of gravity and won't tip over easily, and a safety feature is an auto cut-off if it did tip over. We have cats and a dog and so far it has proven safe with them around the units playing and such. The top will get quite hot to the touch and you certainly don't want a combustible laying on it, but most of the unit is cool to the touch. Highly Recommend these units. Even was offered Free Shipping at the time I ordered them! Great alternative to Expensive natural gas heat, which at one time was the most affordable option.

I like this heater. We've used two of them and they got us through two cold winters in New England.

My only gripe is with the short power cord - as noted by other reviewers.

3.0 out of 5 stars poor switch placement, May 17, 2006
By
I have had this heater for about 2 years. It works great, however, the placement of the controls was not well thought out. I have small children and pets and frequently find that they have been able to easily alter the settings due to the location of the high/low heat switches. They are very easy to step on accidentally for both people and animals. I have now found a place to put it that this is not so much of a problem, but it's something to consider if you are going to purchase this item. Other than this, it works great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Safe and Reliable Heater, October 14, 2002

(I edited this on November 28, 2009) I bought 2 of these heaters, 7 years ago. Our home is less than 1000 sq.ft. We don't use any other form of heat except for these two heaters. They don't instantly heat the home. However, it doesn't take very long for them to do their job. Once the area is warmed, the heaters maintain the temperature perfectly. I think this was one of the best purchases I've ever made. I highly recommend these heaters and this brand name.
