Apparently, I am one of the few remaining individuals who feel the need for freshly ironed clothing. I've always used steam irons, Rowenta most recently, with consistently disappointing results. Over the years, I've increased my use of spray starch to make up for the power I've believed should have originated in the iron. But no more!

After deciding I wasn't ready for a presser or a mangle for my clothing, and knowing I really didn't need to press that many tablecloths, I discovered a new genre: steam generating irons. And, after some significant research, I ordered this DeLonghi model.

It is truly a different beast than anything I've ever used! What steam production!!! The temperature of the iron sole plate is controlled independently from the quantity of steam desired. Tap water is actually recommended for use. The iron, while substantial in heft, is not heavy. And the old-fashioned looking cork handle is soft, smooth and cool to the touch.

But the bottom line is the job it does on my clothing and linen! While the ads say that this machine will cut your ironing time in half, I cannot say this is true.....mainly because I find myself taking the time to marvel over how each pass with the iron produces such a professional-looking surface! Really, the only thing that's been halved is my use of spray starch, which is an unforseen and welcome benefit!

Am I happy with my new "beast?" You bet! Would I buy another? No way....I suspect this well-designed machine is going to last me a long, long time. But can I recommend one for you? Without reservation!

5.0 out of 5 stars Stiromeglio Delonghi Ironing System, November 24, 2005
This review is from: DeLonghi Stiromeglio Compact PRO 300 Ironing System with Pressurized Boiler (Kitchen)
We just got this product and we love it! The iron generates really powerful steam that reduces time by half. The iron per se is really light, which helps as well.

We used to spend no more than $50 for an iron that we would throw away after 1-2 years of frustration: heavy, not powerful (always check wattage before buying an iron!) and losing ability to deliver heat over time.

Bottom line: if you like saving time and making ironing a less painful activity, definitively go for this product. Bought it at Amazon for $150 (using Kitchen & Housewares $25 coupon) minus discount from amazon visa. It comes with 3-year warranty. A must.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Iron, can't get better for home/small business use., March 9, 2006
This review is from: DeLonghi Stiromeglio Compact PRO 300 Ironing System with Pressurized Boiler (Kitchen)
I really like this, semi-industrial model. I use to work with the industrial irons before and this one has almost as much steam as the professional one. So, if you cannot afford to buy another larger boiler to stay in your house, this model would be just perfect!

We read the reviews of the DeLonghi Stiromeglio Compact PRO 300 Ironing System with Pressurized Boiler - and noted that they were mainly positive- after many years of buying and being frustrated with Rowenta irons- we decided to upgrade to the DeLonghi. The iron and steam system work extremely well and deliver on high quality ironing. But we are returning it because in under one month the steam button/switch that activates the steaming is broken! We're trying again with a replacement and hope that the button/switch failure was a fluke- but to have such a good system with such a cheap button/switch is not just a design problem but business philosophy one as well- saving a couple of cents on a fundamental operating part invites problems.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the best, July 22, 2007
This review is from: DeLonghi Stiromeglio Compact PRO 300 Ironing System with Pressurized Boiler (Kitchen)
I iron every day. For the past eight years, I've used "steam generator" irons. Without question, this is the finest I've ever purchased. The feature of being able to move the cord for right or left handed use is brilliant. It also helps even if you move the iron and your plug is in a different spot. The pressurized steam is extremely hot and powerful. The cork handle never gets too hot to handle as many other brands do. No matter what setting it is on it NEVER drips, which happened with all my other brands of steam generator irons (Rowenta included). The best $200 I ever spent!

3.0 out of 5 stars DeLonghi Stiromeglio Compact Pro 300, September 3, 2008
This review is from: DeLonghi Stiromeglio Compact PRO 300 Ironing System with Pressurized Boiler (Kitchen)
DeLonghi Stiromeglio Compact PRO 300 Ironing System with Pressurized Boiler

I have owned the Rowenta Expert Steam Generators that I have loved, loved, loved. The first one worked for about 4 years and then stopped steaming. It seemed like the button on the handle was locked or broken. I sent it in for repairs and it was the broiler tank that had gone bad, the cost was about $90.00. It lasted about another 2 years and then quit working. I decided to try a different brand (the Delonghi Compact pro 300) Things I love about this is it is quiet. My old Rowenta was like a generator turning on and off when the boiler would heat up. The steam on the pro 300 is only on the tip of the iron, but there is a lot of steam. It just takes some time getting use to. The plug in cord is nice and heavy but is a little bit on the short side. The biggest draw back is that you can not see the water level. You have to use all the water in the tank before you can refill, but you have to wait for the iron to cool down about 20 minutes before refilling. I get busy and forget and then next time I go to use it there isn't any steam, so you have to turn it off and wait and fill the tank. The cost for one of these irons is well worth it. I use to go through 3 or 4 regular irons a year. You will never have to use a water bottle or starch again! big savings!!

4.0 out of 5 stars COMPLETE JUNK, July 16, 2008
By
Janice (San Diego, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: DeLonghi Stiromeglio Compact PRO 300 Ironing System with Pressurized Boiler (Kitchen)
I HAD TO EDIT MY REVIEW. In March of 2009, after using the iron for less than a year, I had to throw it in the trash. It kept leaking water and steam from the cord, so I continued to burn myself. Not very handy in an iron. For months before that, it had started to spit badly. I would never buy this product again. If I could figure out how to change my star rating above, I would.

****************

I have been using this steam system for about a month. I am a quilter, so it gets a lot of use several days a week, for several hours a day. It is vastly superior to a regular iron in that it works better and faster. Regular irons spit, gush, leak and then die young, in my experience. I had read about the inconvenience of having to shut off the iron and wait 15 minutes before refilling when the tank runs empty, and the further inconvenience that there is no way to see inside the tank to gauge its fill level to know when it's about to go dry. But I had not read any complaints about spitting. Unfortunately, this iron does spit a bit. At least it's not a gusher. It seems to be the worst when i first use it, so i try to iron the board a bit before I put any fabric under the iron. Before this, I used a similar steam system from Rowenta, which never spit in 3 years but then died a sudden steamless death. The replacement model for that unit is made in China and has poor reviews so I tried the DeLonghi. Given the DeLonghi's fairly reasonable price point for a steam system, I am happy with it overall. It's way better than a regular iron, but not as good as my departed Rowenta.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Iron I have owned!, March 20, 2006
This review is from: DeLonghi Stiromeglio Compact PRO 300 Ironing System with Pressurized Boiler (Kitchen)
I love steam generating irons but had a bad experience with my prior iron. I bought a Euro Pro steam generating iron and after about two years it stopped steaming. I thought it should have lasted a lot longer. I contacted HSN, the company I bought it from, and complained. They passed the buck to the manufacturer. When I finally got the manufacturer to respond they wanted me to pay to ship the iron to them and pay for repairs. The Euro Pro iron was a bad investment from the start: It needed distilled water and, after I had trouble with it,I learned that the iron had a history of problems that the manufacturer did not address.

The DeLonghi Stiromeglio Compact PRO 300 Iron is a joy. It works beautifully and uses tap water. I researched the product and company and bought the iron because of the warranty and features. So far so good...

4.0 out of 5 stars A very good iron, August 28, 2006
This review is from: DeLonghi Stiromeglio Compact PRO 300 Ironing System with Pressurized Boiler (Kitchen)
The first DeLonghi iron I received was defective. After I received the second one, I realized what I had been missing with irons. I had a Rowenta P2 for the past 5 years and it was a competent iron, however, the DeLonghi is on a different level. The quality of the press is very high and it generates a considerable amount of steam. My only complaint with it is that after you steam with it for a brief time, the steam light turns off and you need to wait for the boiler to build up pressure again. I would like for the iron to have a larger boiler that can contain more steam. Overall, I am pleased with the product.

3.0 out of 5 stars A little disappointed, July 15, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: DeLonghi Stiromeglio Compact PRO 300 Ironing System with Pressurized Boiler (Kitchen)
After having it a few weeks, I am not as impressed as I hoped to be. I have already ordered another iron. It leaves all of my clothes feeling really damp so you can't iron anything and jump right into it to wear. I am a seamtress and the dampness makes it impossible to use this iron when I am sewing. I ordered this model to replace my old Europro model which I really miss, and I don't think I am ever going to find another iron like that model. Now, maybe between the two irons I will come close to what I was use to. I will keep this one, but if I could have used it before actually purchasing--I would not have purchased it.
