Go elsewhere,

I should have read customer reviews. I bought this as a replacement for my old DeLonghi which died after several-times-daily use for 14 yrs. After about two weeks, the toaster timer on my new one started sticking--dangerous! My original model had a nice enamel pan and rack; this one has the chintziest aluminum pan I've ever seen. Cleaning design is ridiculous. DeLonghi seems to have really gone downhill.

Poor Product - Listen to Amazon Reviewers,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I should have listened. But I've had excellent DeLonghi toaster ovens for more than 12 years. The current model is terrible (the company says 625s and 650s are the same). It toasts unevenly - you can see that the top elements are hotter than the bottom ones. The crumb tray design is klutzy (turn the whole thing over and release a catch). The 625, while it looks like our old XU-22, is about 2 pounds lighter - that tells you a lot. Then I looked at the workmanship - screws were loose, the back metal panel was bowed out slightly. What to do? A new timer [costs money] - I'll install it in my old one myself (why not?). Maybe in a few years they will get themselves back together. Next time I'll listen to Amazon's reviewers...

Poor design,

The dial for the timer on our first unit broke within 1 day, so we had to take it back. About 3 months later, the timer on the second unit broke for good, so that the unit never turns off and runs continuously - dangerous, in my opinion. Also, it does not toast evenly (the bottom is toasted darker than the top), and the temperature setting is not accurate - we routinely set it 25-50 degrees below normal to keep from overcooking food. Overall, cheaper units perform much better. On the upside, it has a larger capacity than most others.

toaster oven mistake!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: DeLonghi XU625B Alfredo Ultima 6-Slice Toaster Oven, Black (Kitchen)
I bought this toaster oven with a gift certificate I received. There was nothing wrong with my old toaster oven, except that it is too small and doesn't have a broiler (it was a gift about 5 yrs ago) -- so I thought I would treat myself to a new one. It is going back after only a week!!I can't get the toast right. If it is toasted on the top, then the bottom is totally burnt -- I like toasted bread -- not charred!! I thought it might have been doing something wrong and kept reading the manual with my breakfast. I, too, found it smaller than I expected. I could not toast more than 4 slices comfortably. Also, while cooking pork chops, I opened the door and pulled out the wire rack to check on them and it collapsed and I had to put it back in -- while I was cooking!! That was very scary and probably not very safe!! I believe I gave it fair shot -- a week -- but it is going back today! I do not recommend this at all. I am back to my old Toastermaster toaster oven.

In my opinion, they should be giving these away! I have owned two back to back that both operated the same... The timer on both of them was broken. It sticks and causes it not to shut off and then it turn beurms your breads that you are trying to toast. If you walked away and for some reason forgot, look out, your house would be on fire before long! This was a [$$$]purchase for us and I would NEVER buy another. The timer is loud and sticks and I have owned others that were lots cheaper that gave me no problems.

loud ticking timer,
By A Customer
This review is from: DeLonghi XU625B Alfredo Ultima 6-Slice Toaster Oven, Black (Kitchen)
A nice looking unit and even has a removable crumb tray, but unfortunately the ticking on the timer is so loud you couldn't possibly forget it's on - no need for the bell when it's done cooking. If you appreciate peace and prefer quiet appliances, then this one could drive you out of the kitchen - sounds like a time-bomb ticking away. Another one of those units designed without thinking about the end user. Much like many of today's refridgerators and dishwashers - you have to do your research to find a quiet one. I decided to take this one back ASAP. I'm hoping to check out the Krups ProChef Premium, sounds like it has an actual minute timer instead of these "you don't know how long" count down timers. But that may just be the marketing, and we'll have to see how loud it ticks.

SOMEBODY OUGHT TO SUE THE COMPANY..... ABSOLUTELY THE WORST AND MOST DANGEROUS APPLIANCE I HAVE EVER HAD.MINE WAS A CHRISTMAS PRESENT AND LASTED ABOUT 3 WEEKS BEFORE MALFUNCTIONING. IT WILL TURN ITSELF BACK ON AFTER ABOUT A 1 MINUTE "REST".YOU BETTER STAY CLOSE BY OR YOUR KITCHEN WILL GO UP IN FLAMES. MINE ALMOST DID. DEALING WITH THE COMPANY WAS AN ABSOLUT NIGHTMARE. RUDE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND NO REPLACEMENT OR REFUND FOR MY 3 WEEK OLD FAULTY APPLIANCE. I COULD SEND IT BACK TO THE COMPANY (AT MY EXPENSE) OR HAVE IT FIXED AT ONE OF THEIR "FIX IT SHOPS" (ABOUT A 1 HOUR DRIVE FROM MY HOUSE) IT WAS NOT WORTH IT TO INVEST ANOTHER PENNY IN AN OVERPRICED POORLY MANUFACTURED APPLIANCE AND A LOUSY MANAGED COMPANY. DE LONGHI .... NEVER EVER AGAIN.

When this oven is on (toasting or baking) the mechanical timer is engaged and has a annoying tick. This is not loud but definitely audible and annoying. i am returning it right now.

Fire Hazard,
This review is from: DeLonghi XU625B Alfredo Ultima 6-Slice Toaster Oven, Black (Kitchen)
We've had this appliance for about 1 year and have had to have the timer replaced two times and it still doesn't work. The appliance repair shop that replaced the timers has stated that they see lots of broken timers on this model.Impact of the sticky timer: burned toast, smoke in the house. Yesterday, I had flames coming out the front of the toaster. Delonghi should recall this appliance, as it is a true safety hazard.

Disapppointing &Truly Dangerous,
By Beau Semmes (New York, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: DeLonghi XU625B Alfredo Ultima 6-Slice Toaster Oven, Black (Kitchen)
We bought this oven for our first apartment after getting married -- my wife took my recommendation because I had an old Delonghi, bought in 1992 that still cooks perfectly and is mechanically solid too - the only problem with the older one was that it was so cosmetically "used" and ugly that we wanted a newer one for our new home together. Luckily I stored the old one.
With the new one, the first thing I noticed was that it was rather flimsy and did not cook evenly like the old one did. The back is hotter than the front and the bottom is hotter than the top. A few weeks later, the tinny pan that was included with it rusted out when we left it overnight to soak in the sink. Luckily, I could replace this with the wonderful sturdy enameled pan from my old Delonghi oven. Then the SERIOUS problems began... The knob that times the toast is the same knob that turns the oven itself on or off -- this is a major design flaw and hazard. After only a few weeks of use, the timer malfunctioned: when the toast "timed" and the bell rang, the oven would not turn off. We had to manually reset the knob to turn the oven off. We burned a lot of toast whenever we became momentarily distracted or didn't hear the bell. Then the bell stopped working, making it worse. Nonetheless, we decided to "get used to it" because most of the time, we used the oven for baking, and only occasionally used the timer for making toast. More recently, an even more dangerous problem appeared: we cannot turn the oven off, no matter what we do! After one turns the oven off manually, the mechanical timer now kicks in, merrily ticks past the "off" setting, and turns the oven on full blast all by itself. It simply won't stay off. The only way to turn off the oven is to unplug it. NO appliance should have such a blatently dangerous flaw. It is not worth repairing. Avoid this oven. It is unsafe, period. I'm going to get my old Delonghi out of storage today and give it a good clean up. It may be ugly, but it worked fine for more than a decade without a problem. |
