5.0 out of 5 stars Holds like crazy too
A perfectly tight fit for the DeLorme PN series of handheld GPS. The grip is very tight and surrounds the GPS nearly completely protecting it very well. The suction cup needs the normal clean windshield to grip to and the locking device twists meaning there's no lever to get in the way of placement. The short arm rotates this way and that and I found comfortable positions...

3.0 out of 5 stars Solid But Large
I found the DeLorme In-Vehicle mount to be very solid with no movement. The downside is the reason the mount is so solid is that it is so large. It will impact visibility if you put it in the usual spot of the middle of the windshield. I eventually put mine in the upper left corner of the windshield and it does not interfere with my driving visibility. It is extremely...

The suction cup needs the normal clean windshield to grip to and the locking device twists meaning there's no lever to get in the way of placement. The short arm rotates this way and that and I found comfortable positions in several different locations before deciding on one I liked best. Be sure to clean your window following use as thieves have learned to look for the marks left behind by the suction cup.

I had heard the mount was strong, but this mount is almost overkill. I would expect I could roll my vehicle and it would stay in place. I've never seen a mount made this well. It's very simple to attach, set in place and tighten down so that it doesn't move.

I would highly recommend!

This well made product from RAM certainly lives up to RAM's image of being sturdy and well designed. I'll be brief and straight to the point:
- very positive suction mount to the windsheild - you place it where you want it on the glass, turn the lever to apply suction and your done! It remained attached during rigorous off-road 4-wheeling all day long.
- the mounting adjustments are almost infinite - simply loosen the one wing nut in the center of the mounting arm and the mount can be adjusted at the device end on a ball and at the suction cup end on a ball. Point it up, down, sideways, tilted, it doesn't matter.
- the device cradle is extremely tight - your PN isn't coming out unless you make it
- the device cradle also allows for the data/charging cable to remain attached while in the mount - the cable can be removed from the PN or connected to the PN while in the mount also
- the mount does not scratch or mar the case of the PN
- worth the money - buy it and forget about it!!

Fits the PN series like a sock. Well-made, easy to use.

I'm not sure about the life of the plastic/rubber cup though. Don't know how long it will last when the car is parked in the hot sun all day.

Better lick the cup before mounting this. Mine leaked when the seal was not made wet.

I've driven some pretty knarly jeep roads with lots of rocks, roots, and ruts, and oh yes, miles of teeth-shattering washboard. The device never fell off the windshield, something I was afraid of.

4.0 out of 5 stars Heavy duty mount!, January 28, 2011

This review is from: DeLorme AF-7850-000 Earthmate PN Series RAM In-Vehicle Mount (Electronics)
I do quite a bit of geocaching with my delorme PN-40 and have used some other types of mounts, they either broke, the gps would fall out or were not very practical. The Delorme mount is heavy duty and I expect it will last a very long time. I use the suction cup to mount to the under side of the windshield in my car, easy on easy off with a turn of the lever. The adjustments are simple and firm. I would have given it five stars except that the PN-40 snaps into and back out of the mount rather hard. I think that the clip at the top is too robust and holds the gps too securely (not all bad). So I did modify it a bit to make it easier to snap in and out. Now I am 100% satisfied with the mount! Thanks for the great design Delorme!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a best ever gift, sigh..., May 17, 2010

This review is from: DeLorme AF-7850-000 Earthmate PN Series RAM In-Vehicle Mount (Electronics)
I bought this for my husband as a gift and we weren't 100% pleased. First, no instructions for assembly were present, just the product picture on the package and it took hubby a couple of tries to get it together properly. Secondly and most importantly, the fit on the GPS was so tight it was almost impossible to insert or remove his DeLorme Earthmate PN-40 Handheld GPS (1:100k Topographic, Detailed Street Maps & POIs Included) from the holder without fear of breaking the plastic! It shouldn't fall out of the holder, but it doesn't need to be THAT tight either! We were actually afraid that once inserted in the holder, we would not be able to remove the GPS again, or at least not without a struggle. Perhaps a holder with a locking mechanism, so that the GPS can be easily inserted, then locked down, then released when you need to take it out of the holder would be an easier design to use?

We managed to rig a way to hold the GPS without inserting it fully into the holder using a hairband, but it's neither as safe or as satisfactory as a holder that fit the device properly would have been.

On the plus side, the suction appears to hold firmly to his windshield and he likes having the GPS mounted in his car. Basically not a bad product, just needs improvement on the GPS holder. If we could get the GPS in and out of the holder easily, this would have been a 5-star review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heavy Duty, June 10, 2009
This review is from: DeLorme AF-7850-000 Earthmate PN Series RAM In-Vehicle Mount (Electronics)
Probably a bit more heavy duty than it needed to be but that is fine with me. It would probably help hold up the vehicle in an accident. Sticks like glue and even stays attached to the slightly porous surface on the dash of the Element.

It holds the gps tight and has not come off the window while driving yet. I have forgotten to take it off a few times and found that if you let it sit in the sun for a while the heat can get it to pop though.

A very useful little gadget for driving the backroads with your GPS. Keeps the GPS within ready vision and from falling off the dash. It seems to stick OK on the window--windows can get really hot here and I worry about the suction cup letting go. I wish it would stick on my dash so that I could have it beside me instead of in the window where I sometimes need to see obstructions on the trail. Also, I have to take the case off my GPS for the GPS to fit into this holder. But, all-in-all, I like it and it does work well.
