DeLorme Topo USA 5.0, September 21, 2007
This review is from: Delorme TopoUSA 5.0 (CD-ROM)
I found that this product is not worth the purchase price. Many features on the maps including roads, trails and other features are not in the correct locations. Most are off by great distances. Also the editing features are very inconsistant and difficult to use. Additions to the maps are randomly deleted by the program and the program seems to change the view and scale of the map at random. I contacted Delorme customer service for assistance and received no response. I would not recommend this product to anyone who is looking for accurate mapping software that can be edited for personal use.

The maps rendered are decent representations of actual topo maps, but I have found in some instances that roads and trails are off by quite a bit. By quite a bit, I mean, I have seen asphalt roads that are off by a couple of clicks! This was verified by a very accurate GPS receiver. The worst thing about this software is the interface; I have used software of varying types for years, so I'm pretty good and getting around most of it. This is the most clumsy interface I've ever seen in a software product, making it difficult to impossible to use many of the features, including one of the most important, DLing and utilizing GPS data on a map. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Perhaps the latest version is better, I cannot say as I haven't had experience with it. I'll likely try NG state series software next as this is sadly lacking.
