Book Description

November 10, 2006
In recent years, interest in the DeTomaso marque has increased dramatically. Good Panteras are harder to find each year, and values continue to rise. What's fascinating about the Pantera community is that no two owners seem to prepare their cars in the same way, and in fact completely original cars are a minority. Unlike in the Corvette, MoPar or Ferrari world where originality is worshipped, in the Pantera constellation, modifications and upgrades are for the most part, accepted and encouraged as long as they are done to a very high standard. This color picture book presents all of the models of Panteras that were offered by the factory in Italy, including the GTS, GT5, GT5-S and the very rare Group 4 race cars. In sharp contrast, mild to wild owner modifications of these cars are shown, including blowers, turbos, massive brakes and carbon fiber body panels, to name a few.

About the Author

David and Linda Adler's involvement with DeTomaso automobiles can be traced back to 1968 when they saw an early prototype of the Mangusta in front of their record shop in Long Beach, California. When circumstances permitted, they made the bold decision in 1974 to actually purchase a Mangusta. Once owners, their romance with this intriguing and powerful mid-engine exotic became a focal point of thier lives. In 1991 they became the directors of Pantera International, the earliest and largest DeTomaso marque club.

The Adler's publish a quarterly color magazine about DeTomaso automobiles, with Wallace A. Wyss serving as the Editor-in-Chief of the club magazine. Wallace’s in-depth book, DeTomaso, the Man and the Machines is the leading authority on DeTomaso automobiles.

This review is from: DeTomaso Pantera (Paperback)
Not a comprehensive book to read but a colour book on Pantera's.This book lacks a comprehensive text on these cars. The photographs throughour are all in colour and most people will be pleased with this book.If you are looking for technical/history of Pantera's this isnt the book but an ideal book if you love colour-glossy photos.

If you are looking for a "picture books" for the Pantera, you will not be disappointed with this book, for that's pretty much all it is.

However, if you wants techical details, how to and other info to "improve" your Pantera, you can do much better and for free on the web.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book on the Pantera, December 3, 2006
This review is from: DeTomaso Pantera (Paperback)
This book is a gem. The folks involved in this book are some heavy hitters in the Pantera world. David and Linda Adler are the former directors of Pantera International, so they obviously know their stuff. Wallace Wyss worked for Motor Trend and also wrote a book on Alejandro DeTomaso titled DeTomaso: The Man and The Machines (which is an outstanding read with tons of techinical information and b&w photos), which I sadly believe is no longer in production. It also features a very nice Forward by Tom Tjaarda, who designed the Pantera.

This book is totally comprised of color photos of all the Pantera models built from the factory, along with custom Panteras. It features many nice photos of interiors and engine compartments to compliment the exterior shots of the car. I personally am thrilled that there are quite a few shots of the GT5-S, which I believe is the sexiest Pantera (or automobile) ever produced.

Books on the Pantera are few and far between, and don't seem to stay in print too long, so I highly recommend you purchase this book. While certainly not a downfall, this book has no real text, except for the captions which accompany each photo. The captions provide good info, but there is no history of design and production in this book. For that, I recommend you try to get your hands on DeTomaso: the Man and the Machines, which I mentioned earlier. Both books go very well together, as one only has a few color photos but outstanding text, and this one only has color photos. Other than a few mis-spelled words here and there, this book is outstanding!
