5.0 out of 5 stars fantastic drills - right size, round holes, long lasting
If you need holes in metal that are round, nearly perfectly on size, stay where started, and don't have big breakout burrs then get a set. They are my "go to" drills for thin material, off camber holes, holes in round stock. They also last if treated with a modest amount of care - right SFM for the material and coolant if drilling steel. I've drilled 50 1/4" holes in...

1.0 out of 5 stars Worse bits ever for wood work
While the pilot point may sound good, the tear out on the ENTRY side is completely ridiculous. I expect some tear out on the exit, but for each and every hole to be tore up on entry is simply not acceptable.

I've drilled 50 1/4" holes in cheap 1/4' thick angle iron and still had a sharp drill. I have hundreds of drills in stock to chose from, carbide, cobalt, screw machine, taper length, split point, etc. and these get the most use. The mini split point pilot point insures your holes are spot on the punch. Ok, a stub drill in a mill will be more consistently accurate, but that is another playing field. I only wish they made these in number sizes!

5.0 out of 5 stars These bits are absolutely great for metal, March 24, 2011

If you are using these bits for drilling in wood,
You are using the wrong type of bit.
Using a brad point wood bit ,you wont get tear out on entry side.
These bits are absolutely great for metal,(and that's what they were designed for)
,its like drilling small pilot hole before ,the larger hole,
witch is a technique I have used many times in the past, this keeps the larger bit running straight and true.
The pilot point does a good job of preventing the bit from skating when starting to drill.

The home depot one seems slightly different? The colour of the metal and packaging.
