Scott rubbed his tired eyes with the back of his hand. It had been twenty-four hours since that horrific moment when the ground had begun to shake ferociously, forcing Zachs coffin to fall to the ground and revealing nothing but an empty gray suit. Zachs body had vanished along with his wife, Valerie, and his son, Timothy. In fact, all around the world in every country, people had instantaneously disappeared. Even some people from Scotts own office had disappeared, including Stephanie Miller, Zachs young assistant. He had been looking directly at Stephanie when the ground began to shake. Instantly she had vanished. The people of the world were only beginning to understand the magnitude of how many people were gone.
The effects of the earthquake had been felt around the entire planet. Scott picked up his television remote and pressed the power button. As he scanned through the channels, the news was nearly the same on each. Buildings leveled by the quake were too numerous to count. Fires raged out of control in all of the major cities from every part of the world and at many oil refineries. Outside Tacoma, Washington, a nuclear power plant had a structural failure, resulting in a core breech, which fed the local environment a massive and lethal dosage of radiation. In Japan, there was a similar core breech, which dumped the deadly radiation into the Sea of Japan, instantly starting the horrible process of killing the sea life. The number of broken dams was not yet known, but the flooding was tremendous and fatal to the many low-lying areas around the United States. Literally, millions of homes and apartments around the world were completely demolished into mounds of rubble.
Yet, the carnage from the massive earthquake and subsequent tidal waves was only a portion of the total disaster. In many cases as the millions of people disappeared from the earth, they left behind a moving vehicle without a driver. There were hundreds of thousands of automobile collisions. In the sky overhead, many planes were left to fly themselves as the pilots and co-pilots simply vanished from sight. Large jetliners crashed into homes, churches, office buildings, and even playgrounds.
As Scott listened to the news his jaw slackened at the numerous disaster scenes flashing before his eyes. He listened carefully as a reporter tried to speculate on where all the vanishing people had gone. "There is a growing belief," said the senior anchorman, "that millions of people have been abducted by aliens from another planet. This may explain," he continued, "why it appears as if more children were taken than adults. This might well explain how the entire earth could have experienced a simultaneous earthquake on every continent. Perhaps the aliens aligned themselves around the world, and with some unknown technical power, the beings from another planet coordinated the abduction of part of the worlds population."
"How ludicrous," Scott thought. If they had watched Zachs show on the coming of Jesus, they would know where everyone had gone. He turned the channel to his own news station. They were reporting the same nonsense. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Wow, The Characters and Storyline Really Come to Life!,
By Tony D Studer (Albany, OR United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Deacon's Horn (The Last Gentile Trilogy, Book 2) (Paperback)
I thought the LAST GENTILE was a hard act to follow, but this book is even better! Masterful development of the character set and storyline make you feel like you're actually engaged in the battle against evil. I highly recommend this book and after the first books cliffhanger ending I was glad I could get my hands on the second and third books instead of having to wait.

This review is from: Deacon's Horn (The Last Gentile Trilogy, Book 2) (Paperback)
The action takes off in Book 2 as the Tribulaton begins. New characters enter the story and Bybee does a good job getting the reader quickly attached to these people as their lives become more difficult by the day. Literally, Bybee has story lines going all around the world at the same time. I especially like Bybee's ideas of how the judgments of the Book of Revelation could come about. Who knows and if my belief in a pre-tribulation rapture is correct, I and other Christians today will watch these events from the "balcony". I look forward to reading Book 3. Thanks.

Just like book one, this is an easy read that touches your heart and soul. Bringing ideas to the forefront other end time series have not, it encourages you to search for the truth and examine the evidence of our current times.
If Christian fiction is what you seek, you will love this trilogy.
