Zombies Invade the Old West!

Arizona, 1889: Two desperate brothers pull off a white-knuckled stagecoach robbery. They think their troubles are behind them when they stash the cash in a desert hideaway--but their misfortune is just beginning. The Smith brothers have wandered into a horror from the region's shamanistic tribal past, and when the dead start rising from their graves to stalk and consume the living, the Smiths find themselves fighting for their lives in an undead nightmare. Jailed and tortured in a dusty frontier town overwhelmed by zombies, the boys bust free and join a ragged band of townspeople for a gut-wrenching Old West showdown against the ravenous, shambling dead.

Praise for the Work of William Harms

"With Impaler, William Harms not only puts teeth back into the vampire genre, he redefines the true 'vampire epic'. This is dark, dangerous and bloody good fun!" --Jonathan Maberry, multiple Bram Stoker Award-winning author of The Wolfman and The Dragon Factory.

"Impaler remains an excellent take on vampire mythos and a great horror comic in general." --Fangoria

"Writer William Harms gives us what might be the freshest reinter¬pretation of the vampire mythos in years ... the impending bloodfest over the coming issues promises to be spectacular." --Metro (Toronto)

This book is a classic pulp horror novel. The characters develop quickly to set the stage. Then BOOM! Zombies! There's no dancing around here. Harms knows why you're reading a book like this. He walks you up to the hole then he whacks you on the head with his shovel. The western setting is more than a twist. It really adds great atmosphere and provides a unique dynamic to the zombie formula. Spooky mystic sites in the desert mountains, sinister dust, staggering horses and limited ammo (yes, I was nervously counting each shot fired from the six-shooters and double barrel shotguns). Lot's of potential for sequels. Please send sequels.

5.0 out of 5 stars Together at Last!, April 1, 2010
By
This review is from: Dead or Alive (Paperback)
This is the kind of zombie tale I've been wanting to see ever since I became a fan of the genre, and I can say right now that "Dead or Alive" does not disappoint. Cool gunslingers, a climactic showdown, violence and gore, everything I like about zombies and Westerns has been brought together at last and it's every bit as good as I'd hoped. I've read Harms' work before and his stuff just keeps getting better. His run on Impaler (if you haven't read it and you like his work you should definitely check it out) has got me itching for the next issue while "Dead or Alive" shows that he can write zombies just as well as anyone else. This is a must have for fans of the shambling undead, especially if you like stuff like "The Walking Dead" by Kirkman or any of Brian Keane's zombie books (I actually prefer Harm's stuff over Keane's). I hope to see more books from Harms in the future as I think this is one writer who still has many more good stories to tell.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Shaun of the Deadwood", September 25, 2010

This review is from: Dead or Alive (Paperback)
OK, maybe not as comedic as Shaun of the Dead, nor as brutal as Deadwood, but you get the idea. It's violent, it's gory. And there were several times I laughed out loud. I love westerns, sci-fi westerns, old TV show westerns, steampunk westerns, wild west computer games, you name it. If it's Wild West, I'm there. Not so much a fan of zombies, but dang if this book didn't make me a fan of undead westerns! The novel has the same brisk, gritty style and clever banter as William Harms wrote for the award-winning video game inFAMOUS, which is so far my favorite video game of all time. OK, so now they need to make "Dead or Alive" into a video game. And a movie. Only one word of caution: Some content may not be suitable for young'uns. If it were a TV show, it would be on HBO and rated TV-MA.
